Well... that could also imply all the standards, because as some say here, ALL the standard models were of bad quality, right?

He could but since he was already talking about standard cars I don't think he would include the 'bad quality' qualifier to the statement if he meant all of them.

How many models have high quality ? Little.

How many are truly awful? Little, but they are the ones they've seemingly updated to match some of the better ones.

I mean, think about the interesting cars that you can get in standard form.

Or think of the handful of interesting extra Premium cars we perhaps could've had if they didn't spend the time and resources updating and adding aero parts to Standard cars since it seems they actually did try to improve them (or some at least) this time around.
I'd happily trade all 800 Standard cars for 5 extra Premium ones or (considering they in hindsight were gonna be added for the simple reason GT5 included 1000 cars on the same console) kept them exactly as they were in GT5 with 5 or less extra Premium cars.

Besides this not being about the sort of cars which are Standard (as unfortunately a lot of great cars are indeed Standard) but about the things they're lacking (cockpit view) making them automatically not the content everyone will appreciate or use (nevermind the graphical aspect and inconsistency).
You can say that in essence it's the same as certain types of cars not being everyone's cup of tea but that's a subjective criteria, not a limitation in gameplay aspects.

What I don't really get is the outcry of removing 800 Standard cars for 2 reasons, one is that there aren't really 800 distinct cars to replace or remove but most importantly, and let's be honest here, if they had the same amount of Premium cars available for GT5 they'd not even be considered for inclusion and the only way you'd be able to drive certain cars would be by playing GT4.

So thankfully GT6 now includes the amount of Premium cars GT5 should've had (so giving me enough cars to enjoy) and still includes the stopgap solution to mask it for marketing reasons (less cars on a successor on the same console is a risk they probably couldn't take).
I'd happily be able to ignore them (although I did enjoy the opentop ones after they received something resembling cockpit view) but I'm afraid the separation that made that possible in GT5 (different garage section/ways to buy them) has been removed under the false pretense the difference doesn't exist anymore.

If that's kept in place (even if it's optional this time), I don't really mind they're added again for those who enjoy them, but keep in mind they won't be around forever (that includes the sort of cars in some cases) as GT7 might include less cars but all Premium quality and suited for each viewpoint preference, how dare they!

I don't care if "Significant" cars are Premium: GtOne, Supra, Veyron, Caterham, maybe like 50 more.

I'm easy to please because i just drive the cars! I don't do photos of cars and drive in bumper cam. If they do something with sounds i will be a happy camper!

Not an exact comparison sure, but a definite decline in quality! In GT4 EVERYTHING was improved! Surely you knew what I meant unless you were you being facetious?

I guess not. Honestly, I think I just looked at the words you said and took it literally. I say that because while I don't mind the standards in GT5, I certainly wouldn't think the same if GT4 had PS1 quality cars. Overall, I don't think it's a good comparison anyway (exact or not) even you're trying to prove a point in the decline of quality, as one is MUCH more drastic than the other.

Fair.

I'm not very impressed that standards are still in the game. Oh well... maybe GT7 on PS4 in 2017. :(

By that time Forza 8 will be out...

Hey guys I'm back, and WHOA look at those votes. I've read through many of the posts and lets just say I'm liking them.

Keep it up folks, share more of your thoughts on standard cars and cast in your votes :)

I am not happy standards are still in GT6. Still feels like an unfinished game to me and PD is constantly playing catch up to get these cars finished. Some still wont have interiors so that's quite disappointing so I am guessing they might upgrade these later after GT6 launches.

BUT I am VERY happy we can bring them to photo travel, their graphics have been upgraded, and they can be customized. All of which we could not do in GT5 especially at launch. This is an improvement but really only a workaround after 8 1/2 years of development between GT5 and GT6.

PD really should have just waited to release GT6 on the PS4 IMO. Would have given them time to finish up all the standards and fully polish GT6.

It doesn't make a huge difference to me, but it would be nice if they upgraded them all to premium. Or at least gave them interior views and not a black shadow thing. If Forza can do it, GT should be able to.

I think as long as standard cars can do the same things as premiums can gameplay wise, e.g photomode, aero upgrades OTHER THAN spoilers, wheels, etc. I see no problem with them.

I agree. They are still standards but at least they wont be in their own category anymore. I hated that about GT5. Which most of you already know. This is indeed an improvement. I wonder if we will still only be able to purchase standards from the used car dealership?? If we can actually purchase most of these from the regular dealerships then that's even better news.

I don't agree with "the more the merrier argument" for 2 reasons: we won't get a finished and polished game for a while with such conformist concept, and more important it becomes an excuse for not improving the car sounds, "there are 1200+ cars and it would be expensive/too long to improve them" argument.

They could spend the time used in the small improvements on 800 standard cars to build 50+ premium cars and improve the sound of the premium cars. Seriously at least 70% of the standard cars are forgettable, including dozens of mx5/gtr/skyline/mx7 copies.

I don’t know you guys, but i hated when after a championship i received a car and then the standard music sounds...yet another standard car! noo not again!!

800 (80%) of the cars in GT5 are standards. So its pretty much a given that you are going to get a standard car as a reward almost every single time.

I missed the way the reward cars were shown in the previous GT games. They would spin around as a black silhouette then slowly appear. I LOVED that suspenseful rewarding moment. :)
In GT5 they just pull forward and all you see is the front. :guilty:

I'd like to see a return to how it was done in GT2 where we had "new cars" and "used cars" on sale by manufacturer, or at least something similar to that. Essentially somewhere we can buy a selection of cars in showroom "new" condition and another where we can buy "used" cars with miles on them for less money.

But I don't think they should be two completely exclusive / separate "dealerships" though at least in terms of content, by that I mean I think some cars from the "new" dealership should also pop up in the "used" one. So if you want to buy say a Ferrari 599 you can go to the "new" dealership and pick out a brand new one in any stock colour you like for 320k credits, or you can wait to see if one pops up in the "Used" dealership and pay say 250k for a green one with 50k miles on it.

Yeah i agree, i hope for something like that.

If they could add an interior view to them (a real one.. not the shadow-effect) I wouldn't mind. I don't play this game for graphics.

No, I'm not happy. In my opinion, the standard cars makes the game feel like it's unfinished and unstable. PD should make a fresh new start with premium cars and choose the best cars, not create a millions of duplicates

I'm OK with them and hope they can hire more staff for their modeling team and remodel most standard cars to premium polygon beauty (plus tracks of course). Takes a lot of re-licencing maybe but it's worth it to maintain the amazing variety and uniqueness GT has been known for.

I think PD having at least 500-600 premiums for GT6 is do-able through DLC through 2014-2015...

Obviously, it would be perfect if they updated all of the standards to premium. If they aren't going to do that, I would rather have them in the game so I can use them than not there at all. Gran Turismo is a beautiful game to look at but, when it comes down to it, I play it because it is fun to play, not because it's pretty to look at.

I do wish they would take out all of the unnecessary duplicates of cars. How many Miatas, GT-R's, 3000GT's, etc do we need? I think one or two different variants per generation would suffice. There is no need to have EDM, JDM, and US variants of every year and every trim level. It just clutters the game.

I think there is. :sly: In all honesty this is why I love GT.

I think the question is too vague.Am I happy that there are standards in GT6 ? no. Would I be happy if they removed them and just left the premiums? no. Would I prefer they update the standards ( replace older models with newer or later year models ) ? yes

I'm actually surprised that's the thing you hated (I get the idea of hating the concept of Standard cars as I do too) as at least it made perfectly clear there was a difference and which cars were different.
In fact, it was the best thing they did after making the dubious decision to include them, and I really hope they're still separated (since I fear they won't be after reading the Q&A) or at least an option to do so (as I can also understand those who like them wanting them in the same garage section).

With a separate garage section (and a favourite section to file my opentop Standard cars) it was easy to ignore them for the most part or at least not pollute my pristine Premium garage.
I would also really hate seeing them next to each other in the dealerships without some description that one features cockpit view whilst another doesn't under the false pretense they're suddenly all the same.

That could be slightly confusing for us to guess (if it isn't immediately apparant) which Standard car received a Premium 'makeover' but imagine the frustration by new players who assume they're all indeed the same.

Now that would be a nasty surprise.

Separating them was infuriating. To an insane degree. It added a useless step to finding a car and made keeping track of things more difficult. My garage needs a master list and any sublists that I define. Not an arbitrary partition.

I'd say that diving cars in GT5 was one of the things I hated the most. In fact it was only downside (a completely unnecessary one) to having them.

If people are worried about what has cockpit view, then PD can just add an icon or label for every car.

I'm not pleased that standard cars are returning, but it seems to be a larger step backwards than forwards to remove all of the non-"premiumized" standard cars... You'd still get massive variety with their being included.

I'm not sure how MUCH PD is improving the differences in quality between standards and premiums, but it sounds like its a good bit. I'm more interested in equal features (customization, photomode, and details, like lights and wipers), rather than graphical quality. But it sounds like PD HAS padded the difference between the two. They really just need to optimize the textures on the standard cars, and then the lack of poly's will be mostly hidden. Some WILL need a few more polygons, though, but only about a maximum of 50 or so.
