Ian Bell just posted this link on Twitter.
As expected, you get bonus XP for turning off assists. Really don't fancy the tyre screeching sound though, hope that gets changed in the final version

Thanks for that, looks interesting! One thing I noticed is that the drivers hands are shifting a manual gearbox despite the c7 having paddle shifters. Should go some way to show just how early on in the build the footage we've seen is seeing as PC1 & 2 had really good hand movements.

C8 have paddles ;) C7 is older front engine corvette ;)

That's not an equivalent comparison. A better comparison would have been a preview version where they showed the Ferrari GT3 at Algarve where the pits were closed which didn't happen which is why people are on edge.

To clarify, I meant games which had pitlanes closed on all circuits such as Grid Autosport, 2019 and Shift. These included GP circuits such as Barcelona and Sepang. Not a few red herrings like there were in PCARS2 which didn't set the trend.
I guess all I can say is, we'll see.

  • wide set of race conversion kits
  • buy and own hundreds of cars
  • upgrade cars with realistic performance parts that affect handling and power
  • customise your cars' Liveries with racing- and community-inspired elements along with decals, rims, tyres, license plates, race numbers, and more
  • personalise your drivers with characters, outfits and helmet
  • 24-hour cycle, dynamic all-seasons, all-weather racing
That is an impressive wishlist-esque set of features; things we've learned to only expect à la carte in other games. The next thing to do is plant a thought in Ian's head to consider making an open world competitor to Forza Horiz--

At this point this is definitely extremely wild speculation from my end but... anyone fancy Costa di Amalfi?

Reminds me of another game without tire wear indicators, without a fuel gauge, heck -- it doesn't even have a tach. It must not even simulate engines!

It's called Project CARS 2 -- with the HUD cycled away at the press of a button. I mapped that to Triangle, so I can double-check my tire compound on the telemetry HUD before switching back to a simpler one.

If you look at the Motec screens you'll see them indicating the same details as in PCARS2. 👍

Considering we're looking at two-lap sprint races, I reckon the most likely explanation is that the pits may be blocked off when they're unwanted or irrelevant, to prevent accidental pitlane entry. To pit on a two-lap race is to lose, after all...and protecting the player from accidentally pitting when there's absolutely no reason to pit is novice-friendly.

I would be so happy if your reason for blocked pits was true, BUT:

-the city track with Mercedes does not have pit entry or any pits at all. Only tracks without pits in PC2 are point to point and this was a circuit.

- you dont see fuel or tyres in the HUD.

- If there were pits, someone from SMS would just drop it here like other info

I think that is pretty much no pits confirmed.

I am really sad about this because right now I play PC2 more than ever. Only simulator where I can also add AI to the mix in online races (also F1, but I hate the physics). Well now I just hope ACC will be 60 fps on PS4 Pro :D

I don’t believe there is no pit stops in pcars3. They could just left them from PC2. I hope they will confirm them.

  • The rallycross circuits also did not let you use pits even if you drove right by the entry and exit (eg. Knockhill).
  • You see information on the Motec screen in the racecars. The HUD was customizable in PCARS2, so I'm sticking with this meaning nothing.
  • I imagine confirmation is coming soon, somewhere. We're not the only place they talk to fans, and not always the place to get a scoop.
Another thought on pits -- the "Time-Attack" mode in PCARS2 dropped you on the track with warm tires, instead of in the pit starting on cold tires. You might as well close the pits for that mode, which might be how the Corvette drifting video was recorded. We can't tell because the beta still pulls a null "Persistent Title" for the header string. :P

I am happy there are not pit stops.
I want a fun game with some car personalization, a good career mode and realistici driving. Bit annoyed by a ton of simulation features that at the end of the day don't even work properly. Pcars 2 could have been a far better game with less features. Don't feel the need for a pcars2.5 on the same gen.

I would be unhappy if there are no pit stops.
I want a real experience with a ton of simulation features that allows you to be immersed in a race and not running over gold coins for points. Don't know what a "gen" is because we use PC's with triple screens., direct drive wheels and button boxes. Pcars 2 would have been a better game if it had more features. This is how we used Pcars 2 so it would be nice to be able to do the same things and even more.

See how that works?

How did pitstops not work properly? They were fine. What?

I understand you guys want to believe everything Ian Bell says, but not only does he have a bad track record when speaking about his product. He is very much a marketer for them.
I'd rather see what I can find from videos than read what SMS has to say. PCARS 1 and 2 were huge victims of their overhype by the team itself.
I mean just look at the tweet above. Nonesense.

The only history I have with Ian Bell is that he gave me more than 2 years of the deepest, most realistic, most robust, most wonderfully frustrating, most totally satisfying, and most happily time consuming racing sim on my PS4

I will believe everything he says and everything his team says until actual gameplay proves otherwise. Goodness gracious, even after multiple sources saying that they have NOT abandoned the hardcore sim racers who helped build his Project Cars empire, there are still hordes who criticize based only on a couple of early vids. I hated the way they looked too. But, I believe the finished product will be most satisfying.

Given that 2020 has been a rough year, let’s think positively. Pretty please?

I rather see what continent am I actually getting than judge the book by it's cover.

You mean content...

Well at this point no one has any content to go by...
Just a couple of old beta videos that are scarring most of the older folks like myself, and a brand new trailer that is clearly showing a departure from what it was toward the mass casual visual thrill seeking gamers...

These are not covers...

These are videos that were made public, therefore we are very much allowed to judge due to the lack of further clarification...

We could be good people sitting and crossing our arms patiently, but too many things in the world going on right now ALL basically telling us to also sit still... Humans are not naturally made to sit still... Especially when there are so many frustrations going on in the world.

We are judging based on what we are given to see right now.

It's all fair games.
The marketing department should have anticipated that...

EDIT:
the latest video from Ian's tweeter feed with the yellow Vette is very promising...

Despite all the pitchfork and the yelling and the accusation, underneath it all, i am just concerned and have a deep desire that SMS will be successful in satisfying the most number of people, something that very few other racing games have been able to accomplished.

I want SMS to succeed and to satisfy the new as well as the old players like myself, and more...

I just dont want SMS to drop us like an old rag... that's my concern.

Yeah, definitely content. :dunce:

The shift is there I'm not denying it but there could still be things similar to previous games too. The online part, hot laping, in depth personalization, similar physics.
What I'm seeing from the videos are just parts of the new career mode. I could also be totally wrong.

Its been confirmed with an interview with the developers on YouTube that career races will have no practice or qualifying, it will be short races just like grid.

Also looks like the flag system is gone, and the new tracks Shanghai, Havana, Amalfi will no pit lanes either

This. So much this. Right now what I have seen looks pretty disappointing. And yes, that includes the start countdown and way OTT motion blur, becuase it screams arcade to me. I'll believe what Ian and others are saying when I see some gameplay vids from someone not employed by the company (I abolutely love PC2 BTW, no hate for the previous games from me).

For those who want a more "arcadey" style of game, no problem - I hope you get what you are after. But that's not what pCARS was ever marketed as until now. I'll wait and see, but right now my enthusiasm for this is at about 1/10.

I just really, really want to set Custom Race grids.

With cars like the Diablo GTR and F40, for instance... they suit a 90s grid with the GT1s and LMP900s, while the Audi and Nissan definitely don’t.

IIRC the paddles are not for shifting but for something else, I think it was about automatic revving of the engine when shifting down.

I quite like the full racing weekend. Practice, Qualify, Race. Sometimes it can take me a week to do one weekend and I love it.

I saw that interview as well and I’m hoping there will be an option for the full race weekend in career mode. I’m guessing it will still be an option when creating custom races.

who is "we"?

ive never used any of those things personally. be less snobbish
You're right, maybe you haven't. Friends of mine here who use PC2 is who I'm talking about who use it in lobbies. "WE" enjoy the features PC2 had and don't want to see the features we like go away. I hope that makes more sense.

Also just noticed that the pits are still closed. Just pointing that out...

They've literally ripped Interlagos from F1 2019.

My friend, PCARS 2 is one of my favorite racing sims ever. I followed PCARS 1 for years when it was in development and got it on my PS4 once it was announced for consoles.
I personally defended both games against the horde that came after them. Even though I publicly recognized its flaws.

SMS has given me countless hours of fun but that is not to say that Ian Bell's practices aren't... "head-turning", at best.

I'd rather see than hear directly from them, as they have a bad history when it comes to PR.

Are you serious? Surely not? Career without Practice or Qualifying? And no flag system in the game? Even GT and Forza have them.
The street tracks with no pit-lanes doesn't surprise me, the road courses in PCARS 1 and 2 didn't either.

Assuming you're talking about the Gamespot interview, which I haven't seen yet, that is very bad news.

EDIT: I have seen it now. And at 06:05 minute they state: "It's less about being championship based, less race weekend based, less calendar based. It's more about skipping from track to track".
I'm just getting more and more disappointed. How do you proclaim you're still a sim and change your focus so much?

It was only after reading your post that I realized that this is easily done since they’re under the same umbrella now.

It’s not a bad thing is it?

Its nice to meet another person who loves PC2!

I’m aware that many, like you, have a history with Ian and promises unfulfilled or hype that never materialized. So, I can understand skepticism from that group.

I’ve only known one game (PC2)and found it amazing so I’m willing to give a pass until I see the final product here. The videos have not necessarily been encouraging but the interviews have. There is a new video circulating that is quite promising.

Here it is:

Ricky has always been a HUGE FAN of PC2
