By the way: The coolest thread atm @ WMD is the prototype design contest imho. So cool to see several people coming up with really great looking designs... that might eventually end up in the game. The thought is still mindblowing to me and there are already 3 of my liveries in! :D

Just saw that, looks fun. It just so happens that I've gotten a 3d Modelling program so Assuming I ever figure out how to use it, I'd be actually interested. Of course I won't win (the universe just wouldn't be right if I did  ), but it would be fun nonetheless.

Edit: Just asked one guy what he's using and immediately, I got excited when I found out he uses 3ds Max 2013 :D

And now having found out it is possible to make one of those awesome designs in that program which I have, I'm officially in.

You and Wallbanger had some killer skins in NASCAR 09 or 08, whichever it was.

who want GT5 specIII (euh GT6), when we have this non photomode graphic realism...

Ahh lovelly lads.

I wonder how long it will take some of you to do a comparison of the recently released GT6 screenshots from Silverstone. Then again that is kinda unfair unless their will be a PS4 varation of GT6 coming.

How P Cars looks on PS3 compared to GT6 might be interesting though as it seems they have improved things, particularly the terrible jaggies from shadows. I think they deserve more credit than those saying it is just a Spec III but if they haven't changed the audio they deserve what they get on that front.

GT6 will undoubtedly look better. You can see the PS3 screenshots of Project CARS here. Worth mentioning that it is an early build and lacks anti-aliasing. I expect the game to be on par with or slightly better than Ferrari Racing Legends/SHIFT/SHIFT2U graphics wise, most likely locked at 30fps.

By the way; is the release Q1 or Q2 next year? According to DSOGaming it's the latter.

Question to those who have played Shift 2 on PC and Pcars, how are they different physic wise and FFB, particularly interested in comments on FFB from Fanatec wheel user.

Day and night mate, if it wasn't for the graphics, there is no way you could tell they come from the same developer. The physics feel some much more realistic, grippy but with predictable behaviour (ie, the cars oversteer when they should), there's no lag with any controller, and the FFB is great (if a little light for my liking), but until the guys have finished the tyre systems, there's little point in working on it until it's ready.

Shift 2 is garbage. pCARS is very enjoyable. G27 user.

That pretty much sums it up :)

Lets just say I never got Shft after trying it once I hated it that much.

I love P cars.

That is how different they are.

The difference is vast, honestly forget they made shift 2. Project cars is a return to form sor SMS

I have to admit to rather enjoying Shift and Shift 2, but the style of game is totally different.

Shift physics were the bare minimum needed to give some impression that the cars had "realistic" properties. It was all about how much awesome you could pack into a given 60 seconds. The cars were floppy, and you really had to manhandle them to get any sort of response other than "woo, I'm sideways!"

pCARS is much different. Cars respond predictably to small inputs, and you have a lot of range for finessing the car around a corner. The tyre model gives great feel (and they're still working on it).Of course, some cars are totally borked at the moment because they're still in development, but the ones that are good at least show what the system is capable of.

I'd have rated Shift/Shift 2 as somewhere between GT/FM and Burnout. Not totally unrealistic, but not making much of an effort either.
I'd currently put pCARS somewhere between GT/FM and iRacing/Assetto Corsa/rFactor2.

pCARS may yet make it to be considered with the big boys of PC simulation, but at the moment they're still not *quite* there for me. The hit and miss nature of the project at the moment makes it difficult to compare to finished games like FM and GT, but if I give pCARS the benefit of the doubt and assume that all content will ultimately be at the level of their best content now, I feel that it's a better physical simulator than either FM or GT. My opinion only, it would be a difficult thing to try and objectively measure.

Thank you every one for the answers, looking forward to try it when I can, I understand I have to wait for it to become available as it is too late to try the beta.
I enjoy Shift 2 offline racing on PC, also have the PS3 version, but do not like it so much.
I know how good a SIM can be, as I drive AC and race regularly with NKP online.
The future of our hobby looks bright.

Of course. Thats an answer to both of you. By the way, the HUD will be fully customizable too.
Cool, yes I was expecting to be possible. Just to be 100% sure.

Will the devs add an fps limiter to lock frame rate to a desidered range (60fps) ?

V-Sync? Yes.
But the V-sync if the frame goes under 60 for a split of second, let's say 55 it cuts out to 30 because it's supposed to work like that?
Oscillating between 60 and 30 is not good looking. I think they need something that temporanely scale graphics detail to keep 60fps locked.

How GT5 works? The sense of speed remain high most of times. Yes, there are some minor slow down here and there but you can't almost notice them, the are "blurred".

No, GT5 has screen tearing. It drops to 50 or 40 fps or whatever it needs to in tough situations. Is that better than dropping to 30? Swings and roundabouts.

Some people don't notice it at all. Some people it's like being poked in the eye with a sharp stick. :P

You can use adaptive vsync on nvidia cards. If you go below 60 it will cut vsync so you can stay at 50,53,48 or whatever.

On GT5 I do notice the drops, rain it goes to 25-30fps, I think its also been measured to go around 30fps. Also at the London track and some other places when cars bunch up it turns into a 5-15fps slideshow.

5-15 Really? Never happen'd to me. What PS3 version do you have? I have a slim 250gb. Rare frame drops, most of times feels like solid 60fps.

Yes. 60 to 30 is too noticeable for me. I guess the best way to keep 60 rock solid fps is having a pc able to running it at 90 fps.
