24 cars on track would be perfectly decent for a next gen console game imo.

No it would not, F1 2013 has 22 cars on old gen (ps3 and Xbox 360), NASCAR 14 has 43 car grids on old gen. It should be 64 cars, they can have 64 players on a map on BF4 with ease (ONLINE! At 1080p, 60fps with tanks, jets, buggies, helicopters, boats, destructible environment too on the PS4), Project cars should then be able to have 64 car grids then with ease.

Are you sure you know what you are demanding? The games you are comparing to are a lot simpler physics vise. The simulation in pCars is using a lot of resources on the CPU, and the resource on the CPU is finite. So there is a trade off at some point where more cars means simpler physics. I personally hope they go for as good a simulation first, then add as many cars on track as possible, not the other way round.

Battlefield 4 is 900p on PS4

BF4 was a half-assed early access game game that is still being finished. Dice is one of the worst possible examples you could use when talking about a dev who can get the most out of the hardware.

I won't speculate on exactly how many cars will be on track in the console versions, but I will say that as always, some people seriously underestimate the consoles. Optimization is a wonderful thing, and it exists to a far greater extend on consoles (sometimes anyway)

Codemasters said that it's easier to have larger grids with spec series like F1 (and I guess NASCAR would be similar), because all the cars are pretty much the same.

I just don't want the console version to be a half assed version of the PC game, it's 2014. My idea is that they release a patch that would allow PS4 and XBOX ONE players to have 64 car grids. The wii u would still have the limited grids because it's less powerful.

64 on multiplayer would be a blessing, a full 56 car 24 hours of LeMans

Or the Indy 500 with 33 cars or however many they have in real life
Who knows what would happen going into turn 1 at a track like Monza or Monaco or Brands Hatch with 63 other players, I would say pure destruction... That would be really cool though and challenging :D

It would! But then again, didnt sms make it so the max car count per track is the amount of grid slots there are?

I have no clue, I've only been interested in Project cars for about a month now, but I am VERY INTERESTED now in the game. Project Cars> Grid Series, Shift series, GT series, Forza Series Combined.

Can't agree more, I was a Forza guy (and still am on last gen 360), however, ever since I found out about PCARS I have the same opinion as you do.

You could say the same about Need for Speed: Rivals. Frostbite 3 simply could not handle a game like that, especially with the little time they had when developing the game.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans Join Project CARS
Slightly Mad Studios is proud to announce a new partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, organizers of the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, that will allow gamers to experience the world’s biggest motor race in Project CARS.

Players will be given the unique opportunity to tackle one of motorsport’s most daunting and challenging tasks, a high-speed race twice around the clock at day & night, rain or shine.

Project CARS will be the first racing game to properly simulate all the aspects that make the Le Mans 24 Hours one of the most challenging racing events in the world, as gamers will be given the chance to run the event in real-time, facing a full grid of 55 opponents on track.

On their way to the top spot of the podium, players have to dodge GT traffic at high speeds and fight the elements as Project CARS dynamic time-of-day & weather engine makes the virtual race twice around the clock every bit as unpredictable & challenging as the real event.

To ensure we capture all the essence of the legendary race in Project CARS, our development team is aided by no less than three race drivers that competed in last weekend’s edition of the event:

While Rene Rast and Oli Webb successfully raced each other and 16 competitors in the LMP2 class, finishing 3rd & 4th in class, Project CARS Physics & Handling Consultant Ben Collins was busy in the GTE class. Their experience will translate directly into the game, allowing all gamers to share the thrill of competing in this legendary event.

First run in 1923 as the Grand Prix d’Endurance, the Le Mans 24 Hours have become one of racing’s crown-jewel events as no race driver career is complete without a start at the French classic.

For more than eighty years, the world’s most famous manufacturers and drivers have been flocking to central France each June, trying to make their mark on this prestigious event by proving both the superior speed & reliability of their cars.

Project CARS will feature a true to life virtual version of the Circuit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Using a mix of permanent race track and closed public roads, the track’s 13,6 kilometer layout poses a unique challenge that is unlike any other circuit in racing.

One of the circuit’s most distinctive features is the legendary Mulsanne straight. A public Route National for most of the year, the six-kilometer stretch of road turns into a slipstream battleground each summer as prototypes reach speeds of more than 340 kilometers an hour on the legendary “Hunaudieres”.

Going along with the track will be plenty of machinery that has shaped the history of the event, including Audi’s extremely successful 2002 Audi R8 & 2011 R18 TDI prototypes as well as Ingolstadt’s newest creation, the Le Mans race-winning 2014 Audi R18 e-tron quattro.

The popular LMP2 class is represented by two cars as Project CARS will feature both the Alpine A450 LMP2 as well as the ORECA 03 LMP2, representing more than 80% of this year’s LMP2 grid within the game.

Project CARS will also honor some of the race’s most legendary cars as players will be able to experience Le Mans legends like the race-winning 1978 Renault Alpine A442B, the 1990 Mercedes Benz Sauber C9 Group C car & BMW’s 1999 V12 LMR prototype.

To celebrate the addition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, Gaming Nation UK will be running a virtual 24 hour race for charity using Project CARS. To find out more about their event and to donate to the worthy cause, make sure to check out their JustGiving page.

And look at this interesting bit....
facing a full grid of 55 opponents on track.

To be honest, this game sounds tooo good to be true. For now, it is like when the wettest dreams come true... Seriously if they don't mess up the physics (quality of Assetto corsa) I think this game can become an pioneer in racing games.

Assetto corsa is great in physics but I have my doubts about the career mode. And so the most games on the market have this problem.

F1 2013 has 22 cars on old gen (ps3 and Xbox 360), NASCAR 14 has 43 car grids on old gen.
Both run at 30fps.

900p, and the frame rate can drop a lot

Well, take it with a massive grain of salt, but at least on my PC, running time trial and running a race against 30+ AI doesnt really make that much of a difference regarding fps. Maybe 5-10 or so, if even that. This might mean absolutely nothing for the PS4 version, of course.

Nice, they got 24H Le Mans licence secured.... now, how about a specific pCARS 2 or a specific game "Le Mans Legend" (Pcars technology powered) with the complete 2014-15 roster, the old crowns and old circuits, and the legendary cars (Mazda 767b, Porsche 917k and 956/9, etc...). It would be a hoot, since the good old Sega Dreamcast game!

If the game doesn't see some massive optimization soon the game will be all but unplayable on triple screen unless you have $1000 worth of GPU's inside your case. As it is now the games is unplayable with 30 AI in triple screen, unless you can play with less than 25 fps and the game isn't even rendering the 3 screens separately yet. While all this eye candy is nice almost no one is going to see it if you need a super computer to turn on the effects. The way it is now you can pick one of the nice options they give like weather or time change, but if you try to race at night in the rain with some decent detail your out of luck at this time. Im running a 3gb 7950 and with triple screens need to have everything set at the almost minimum settings. So we will need to see what optimizing the game can improve, but I believe most of these graphics options will go unused by the average gamer. There will just be to high a price to see them.

That's why I jumped off the treadmill of keeping up on the latest PC hardware. Years from now I could potentially revisit PCARS on PC and blast away at high settings, for a considerably smaller investment. I only miss out on the occasional zOMG GRAFIX PC exclusive this way. I'm thinking of skipping the PS4/XBone so my multiplatform options might be limited, but considering the industry has become inundated with barely-interactive cinematic experiences and me-too shooters, I feel comfortable putting my eggs in the Nintendo and indie PC basket.

As long as it isn't taken too far or just plain inefficient, making the game a little "future-proof" is common on PC.

Well my point was that on the console, you guys are wanting huge field sizes. When you add in the rain, time change and other effects I just don't see how these next gen consoles are going to be able to do it at 30 fps let alone 60 fps. I think if you get 16 cars that it will be an amazing feat and your still not gonna maintain 60 in a lot of cases. Your gonna see the same fps drops as other games suffer from.

I didnt think GTA V could run on Last gen, but it did just fine (with the exception of texture glitches)..
