lol, never actually thought I would post anything like this but actually the ps3 pics are looking far better than I ever had expected that they would initially (at this point of development) look like.

Knowing how far "off the mark" (optimizing etc.) they currently are is really really promising.

I guess the only thing I can say is that there is a great promise in the air. (I know that's not too much  )

Maybe it's still a lot more than what you had from GT5 at the same point of development.. :P

Dayum, this picture looks good! 👍

Even though im not the biggest fan of Formula cars, that's just stunning good. :dopey:

Hey, they showed the first bunch of PS3 screens today and they are looking...

*drumroll*

Good. Really good, as if you would run the game on PC in 720p with high to medium details indeed. They dont want us to show them around yet though because there are some obvious bugs in it. Its running at stable 30 fps, only breaks down a bit when it rains, but there is a lot of optimization to do in that weather system. I think we can look forward to the console versions. :)

Great news, nonetheless!

Is it only for managers, or seniors can see them??

Could not find the link on WMD :-(

Found them :-)

Who's gonna buy this on the PS3 rather than the PC?

Hmmm... 💡 People that have a PS3 but cant afford a gaming PC! Or who would like to play with their PSN friends, trophy hunters, etc etc etc

I could sense the sarcasm in there

I know that you guys are prohibited of posting the pictures of the console version so it's not possible to post 1 as a little teaser? :nervous:

I am thinking of getting it on PS3 rather than PC. Not 100% on that yet.

Although I am not buying it as I invested and get a free copy :sly:.

Just went and took a look... I have to say they already look better than GT5 ever did, console guys have a lot to look forward to!

I agree.

When they said this is an early version and is not as good as they would like I thought are you serious? That is great quality.

Have they mentioned anything about the number of cars on track the ps3 version will have?

Also I noticed in some videos you can change the date the race is on what does this do?

16 cars on track at once for all three console versions. Changing the date will eventually change the amount of daylight in the race (if set long enough), the air and track temperatures, wind speed and gust regularity, and other parameters with the weather that change throughout the year.

I wouldn't say it looks better than GT5, I think both games are on par with huge differences in the graphics. The cars in GT5 have more details and everything looks sharper (don't forget 1080p60). pCARS has a lot more dynamic trackside features though, so it makes sense that it's running at 720p30 with a lower LOD on cars.

Comparing it with Premium cars on the better tracks of GT5 of course.

Dunno how you got that impression. The cars are imho at least on par with GT5 premiums on the outside and interior, chassis, engine compartment and underbody are definitely more detailed than in GT5. Its not all about polycount, its also about what you do with it.

Talking about the console shots. The close-ups of that particular car didn't blow me away to be honest. The PC version beats GT5 on every level of course.

Problem is people are so used to seeing photomode/menu screen shots from GT5 and Forza. The pcars pics are early ingame.

I must boot up both games to check, becasue from memory they're both low poly and very very jaggy in real time. Even worse is many may have been photoshopped further, used multiple exposure (hdr) and the game will let you save them 3x to 4x the res. Can't remember the exact size. This takes it light years away from what the actual cars look like in game. I myself am guilty of that and over the years you build up an idea that the game looks like the photos and is very high quality game but its very much an illusion.

GT5 cars are the same in photomode and in-game, except for photo travel.
I always compare the shots to what I see in the game, and except for less aliasing, there's no difference.

Don't get me wrong though, pCARS looks great on the PS3 and it beats GT5 and tons of ways, tech and gameplay wise.

I know nothing about the PS3 version of pCARS and haven't seen the screenshots, but there could be more to it than the trackside modelling. Physics complexity and tick rate, graphical settings (such as anti-aliasing, etc) and the number of cars on track (there may be more, I can't imagine it'll be less than what GT5 had) are a few things which come to mind. Well, those and the fact that it's not finished yet.

Also I don't think GT5 was truly 1080p60, it didn't feel like it was running at 60fps for me (compare it to Wipeout HD for smoothness and you'll see where I'm coming from) and the image was definitely upscaled somehow. There was something odd about it for sure, and I do recall reading that it wasn't a 1080p source image... But I'm splitting hairs.

Maybe KY wasn't just trying to cover his arse when he said GT5 is held back by the PS3's hardware, and maybe SMS has their priorities in a different order; physics first, graphics second. Who knows?

GT5 renders in 1280x1080p, technically it's still 1080p this way (vertical lines count).
Take a look at the screenshots if you can and maybe you see what I mean.
Cars on track will be the same, 16, which is good enough and I never expected more.

Again, don't get me wrong, I am not complaining at all, I just wouldn't say it looks better, yet. It features a lot of neat stuff, like amazing weather effects etc. :D

They look ok but certainly not stunning at the moment, not the close ups any way, they look a bit fuzzy, especially around the rear light area. I'm sure once the AA is improved and everything else in general is they'll be looking better.
