Yeah I think the biggest question with the ps4k is will sony be able to have the same quality of game for the current ps4 as they have now when the neo mode will be here. There's a lot of chance that game will be developped for the new console and just cut down quickly for old ps4 user like they do for pc version which we all know doesnt go very well atm.

I dont know personnaly I dont care too much as I have the money to buy it if I feel like it and because I'm mainly playing on pc anyway. A ps4 and probably a ps4k is costing me less than one of my sli gpu so yeah.

But I can understand some people are concerned about it.

Other than PS4 exclusives, that's how every game on PS4 is made. They are made for PCs that can run them at much higher settings, and then compromises need to be made to get it to work properly on PS4. This usually means worse graphics and often locked 30fps.

The way the game plays is no different in that you can still do all the same stuff in the PS4 version. I expect PS4 Neo to work the same way. The games will play the same on each console, but when you play them in the Neo, the graphics will be better and will run a smoother frame rate. I don't see it suddenly making games worse for the current PS4.

I would seriously consider upgrading to a PS4 Neo under one condition: Backwards compatibility with PS3 games.

That's just not gonna happen mate. There are too many PS3 games that have been re-released or re-mastered on PS4 to make that a wise idea for Sony.

The same company that charge you again for PS2 games on PS4 even though you already bought one on PS3.

This to infinity. I'm am really annoyed that Sony have still not done this and went the stupid Playstation Now route charging an extortionate fee to stream PS3 games you already own to your PS4, that service flopped real hard.

Xbox has disk based 360 backwards compatibility and it's a massive selling point. Emulation is pretty easy now that these x86 consoles are so powerful and will get even more powerful with the Scorpio/Neo.

...To be fair, Nintendo pioneered that style of cash grab first. Just sayin'.

The Wii and Wii U are fully backwards compatible with the previous console, only changing in the Wii's case when the system was already essentially dead. The Wii U could very easily be compatible with the Gamecube as well, but they never did anything like Sony did starting with the PS2 Classics line and made more ridiculous with the PS4.

Last week I did some research about PS4.5 NEO and PSVR. I found something that might be possible.
The PS4 NEO isn't really there for 4k gaming. It's just for VR. Nowdays PS4 games are running at 60fps. The PSVR headset is 120hz. With the 'old' PS4, the VR will use reprojection to get 120hz. Reprojection will be always on. It's to prevent Motion Sickness. The PS4 NEO rumors say it will be twice as powerful. So I think it will run natively 120hz for smoother VR experience without Judder & Ghosting because there is no need for reprojection anymore.

I hope PS4 NEO will be fully backwards compatibility with PS2 games. So you don't have to buy it in the PSNstore. Just insert the disk and play. I think it isn't possible to make it fully backwards compatibility with PS3 games. Just because the big difference in hardware.

Not going to happen. PS4 as it is could easily play PS2 discs if they wanted to do it but they instead saw more money in re-releases.

Do you have a source for that claim?

Sony themselves have reduced both the PS1 and PS2 to single chip designs. They could easily have added these to the PS4. They didn't because they want you to buy the games you may own again, and again, and again.

The PS3 was, while Sony was ramping up to launch the PS2 Classics line, already capable of exactly that.

And that feature was cut from the PS3 after the first production run, presumably to save money.
The Xbox One is having old games slowly added to its library, which in itself shows that it does take some amount of effort (and money) to make them compatible on the new systems.

So I'm still waiting for a source to support this claim that it is easy (and cheap) to port the old games to the new systems.

Not that I care about backwards compatability at this point. I play my PS2 games on my good old fat PS2.

I'm not talking about the CECHA/CECHE PS3. I'm talking about the full software emulator Sony created for the PS2 Classics they sell on PSN; which briefly (and possibly still does) supported disc playback with... persuasion.

If I remember correctly, it was more because the backwards compatibility was causing problems with the disc reading laser. At least that was what they said when I had to ship my original PS3 back.

I'll admit to not knowing the technical details on how this works, but you'd think that if it was easy, we would've seen a larger rooster of PS Classics. Instead, we have a very limited selection, which I presume is at least partially because it's not as simple as it might appear.

The original PS3 had what can only be described as the stupidest laser design known to man! The failure rates were very high because they attempted to have 1 laser read 5 types of disk. Instead of having 2 separate lasers like all future models it had what’s called a zoom lens collimator, a miniature magnifying glass that would slide to adjust the beam to the right wavelength. I don't think any other device has ever used this setup.

It was something that easily failed and mine broke just outside of the 1 year warranty. PS2 BC might have increased the wear on this component because it was only activated when switching to DVD,CD,SACD wavelengths. If it got stuck you couldn't play anything!

Not much news but kinda surprised with what MS have done...
From a non fanboy perspective...

What We Know So Far:
Microsoft have the SB1 coming real soon bringing nice compact size and design, increased storage, 4K Blu Ray, Netflix 4K etc streaming. Likehood of games being up scaled to 4K. First console and games to support HDR tone mapping (this is a big deal) appearing as early as Sept with Horizon 3.

These are all features many of us thought Sony were bringing in the Neo but still we await to see whats happening or even when its happening.

PS4 may have the better gaming system in raw power and for some better franchises but the XB1 S sure is a great entertainment box and combined with "Play Anywhere" feature allows gamers to experience some AAA franchises on the system beyond what the console can achieve via PC.

Some nice features but Sony need to surely have an announcement prior to the XB1 S launch as a spoiler and confirming everything?

If you're talking about the PS2 games on PS4 that is down to that fact they're not just straight ports, to be able to get away with selling them again Sony are adding trophy support to them and obviously third parties are going to be less keen to come and do that with their old games, hence why most games are Sony titles. They are also upscaled before they get to your TV. Whether any further tweaks/adjustments are required, I don't know.

Also, you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before — in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game including Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.

I also don't know the full technicalities and it did seem that the software PS2 emulator in the later PS3s was limited in the games it could play but if the PS4 can easily run an upscaled GTA San Andreas I don't see why it couldn't play anything else, from disk, technically speaking. They instead would rather find a reason to sell them, again, it seems.

Leaked slides for developers breaking down all the PS4 Neo information, reported to be fully legit but it is noted that this presentation dates back quite a while.

Xbox Scorpio which launches after it is reported to have at least 3 times more power than the current generation. It looks like the PS4 Neo might be less powerful.

The big draw the Neo will have is its compatibility with PSVR, has anything similar to it been discussed for the Scorpio yet?

Where did you find those slides?

They are all over the net on various gaming sites but I believe Giant Bomb was the source who got them from a developer.

I think Microsoft said at the E3 conference that there would be VR so it will likely be a cheaper version of the Holo Lens headset.

Just a reminder for everyone. The Playstation New York event unveiling the PS4 Neo and PS4 Slim is happening on the 7th September. It starts 3PM EST and 8PM GMT. Sony has said it will be streamed live but haven't yet said which site it will be on.

....Will be keeping an eye on it. As for which channel, the safe bet should be YT. Twitch too, most likely.

Oh yeah, I'll literally do a ROFL if 9/10 of the show is all about PSVR + launch lineup and then for the last five minutes they go: "oh hey here's PS4 Slim. Neo? See you next year...."

It only takes a couple of minutes to tell us the launch date for the Neo ..... that's pretty much all I need to know
