Just had my first two online races against a fellow GTPeer, with Mr
@TokoTurismo. It was epic fun! I knew we were closely matched in rivals times but didn't know how it'd go in a race (I'm absolute crap and often end up making mistakes). Anyway he was online so I invited him to play, had to figure out how to create a private lobby but we sorted it out after a couple of minutes. We set up 5 lap races with sim damage.
First race was at Spa with the Lotus 2-Eleven (my pick). We filled the rest of the grid with drivatars, one of them hit me in turn one of the first lap and I ended up in fourth position, Toko took the lead and disappeared. After Eau Rouge (still lap one) I was able to get to second spot. Then I got close but we nearly ran identical lap times, I was just trailing by 300ft. Then slowly I was able to cut some time and by lap 3 I made an overtaking move at Blanchimont, I took the inside line but had to back off otherwise I would've taken both of us out. Toko regained the lead and remained the same until Toko made a mistake on lap 5 on the exit of Blanchimont, I was able to overtake him and get the win. It was a pretty exciting race, white knucle type of thing.
Second race was at Rio full course with the Bac Mono. This one I gained the lead at first at the first hairpin but Toko got me mid lap. From then on it was pretty close and I had a shot at overtaking on lap one but failed and just kept following him. Then on the last turn of lap four I hit the outside wall and destroyed the left suspension and brakes, I kept going but lost a lot of time. Toko just drove flawlessly to the checkered flag.
It was the first time for me that I race someone I "know" and it was awesome, very clean races. Sorry for the wall of text but yeah I'm truly elated, especially for the sportsmanship displayed on track by him. And now an ultra corny/cringe worthy line but man thank GTP for having such an awesome community! I should have tried this online racing (with friends) a while ago, so much fun.
