Is it just me, or is it a dead giveaway that Russia's hilarious counter-sanctions include Hunter Biden and the now-politically irrelevant Hillary Clinton? It's just straight-up waving the Republican bogeymen, without any reason for them being chosen for sanctions other than because they're the people Trump (and therefore Russia) has been trying to make the conversation all about for the last five years.

Also, fun note... it seems they sanctioned the now-dead used car salesman Joseph Robinette Biden, not the 46th President of the United States Joseph Robinette Biden Junior.

-supposed to be done with the invasion in two days
-sanctions the wrong Joe Biden

Do you think Russian sanctions might include assassination by poison or small caliber pistol shot in the ear?

Assassination isnt for Western leaders, its for traitors, western collaborators. Putin always trying to buy western leaders or to support opposition, he was a recruiter in KGB, not killer.

Ways to NOT get Americans clamoring for war.
1: Telling Mexico to invade us.
2: Attacking a US harbor.
3: Destroying commercial buildings.
4: Trying to assassinate our President.

While it will definitely send a message, it will also guarantee a NATO response without any potential land grab. Might as well go try to invade Alaska, as some Fox News idiot suggested.

Give Biden a beautiful 18 year old Russian girl to snif at and the assassination comes naturally by loss of blood to the head.

Edit

But what would it accomplish to get rid of the old man?

I know nothing, especially about motives. Today my interests are mainly enjoyment of fishing, fencing and model rocketry. But if you look at that list of people and institutions to be sanctioned, you see that it is long and open-ended. The name Samantha Power is high on the list. Lower on the list we might find Victoria Nuland and Robert Kagan. But I don't know.

Would be nice if true. And when Putin has been shot and things calm down, Ukraine, Sweden and Finland can join NATO.
Does this mean Russia will recognize Ukraine's right to exist and will stop funding/pushing propaganda that Ukraine is trying to genocide Russian speakers in Ukraine?

Calm your expectations, guys. Only thing you could expect is freezing of conflict. Russia cant capture any city or leave Ukraine, Ukraine see it and would not surrender.

Right now russian population fighting for sugar. Wait few weeks for riots.

Which would mean that this entire attempt was a massive failure and Russia is conceding to agree on neutrality.

And? We're talking about Nazis here, Stalin wasn't a Nazi. Worshipping Stalin is not a crime. Yet. Not until Putin's government is replaced by right-wing Russian nationalists.

IMO, Stalin was an evil but still a lesser evil than Hitler. And he was on the winning side, after all.
We're talking about genocidal leaders, which Stalin certainly was, and is being glamourised by Putin, who is also a ring wing Russian nationalist.
:sly: Well, can't say I know many. However, even if Utkin dresses in SS uniform to do Nazi salutes in front of a mirror at his home, it's not like he can be punished for that. But it's not known about him publicly saying what Nazis say or doing what Nazis do. What Putin awarded medals to Utkin was clearly not for his tattoos. And again: you seem to be calling the whole Wagner PMC Nazis because of Utkin alone, and you compare dozens of monuments and streets named after Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevich (who did things a lot worse than wearing tattoos) in Ukraine to "oh look, this man standing next to Putin is a Nazi, look at his tattoos!".

Anyway, at least Russian state TV doesn't quote Adolf Eichmann (one of main organisers of Holocaust) calling for extermination of a nation's children.

To everyone else who quoted my previous post: I'm not ignoring you, I'll respond to you later, I just don't live on this forum.

What Putin awarded Wagner medals for (and it was more than just Utkin) were war crimes, ones endorsed by the Russian state.

So yeah, the Russian state does award neo-Nazis, for war crimes as well. So please don't claim otherwise.

Nor does the presence of a minority of NeoNazis in Ukraine justify an invasion.

Hate to be pessimistic, but Putin may try to agree with neutrality just to end the war, and sometime later, hire an assassination of Zelensky just to get rid of him and push for a pro-Russia government either way. But we will see.

Ridiculous how the Russian governement is still acting like they are in a position to be trusted. The sanctions themselves are actions reflecting they were beyond that point already.

A week ago Russia was called to the Hague. They did not even bother to send anyone. The ICC are looking into the claims of genocide by the Russians. A claim filed by the Ukrainians, not the Russians. Again, the Russians didn't bother to send anyone.

Russia is like the United States in that they never signed off on the ICC so not sure how this can be enforced.

Sad but true

And what next? Putin cant just leave and told everyone that its win.
I'm telling you, this is the move:

RE installing a pro-Russian puppet regime: If Russia can't take Ukraine militarily, then it simply can't take Ukraine. They already tried the political route and it didn't work. Any attempt at installing pro-Russian leaders will end badly for that person. There does not appear to be a critical mass of support for Russia within Ukraine so a pro-Russian government will never have the numbers to be sustainable.

Looks like neutrality might be off the table:

Also, the Senate has branded Putin a war criminal by unanimous consensus. Just imagine being so hated that you manage to make modern-day Democrats and Republicans unanimously agree on something.

I get the impression that Russia are just playing for time with these peace negotiations. Going through the motions for the sake of international pressure. They can't back out of Ukraine now and save face. Now China appears to be bankrolling them, i can't see them pulling out anytime soon.

And it is now pretty much impossible for this support to ever happen organically thanks to the war crime invasion.

Nice Job Breaking It, Putin. You've made the one thing you wanted literally impossible.

Ukraine hasn't either. It's not to enforce. It's to go through the motions.

141 other members voted to move forward. Only 4 voted against. Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea and Syria.

Russia needs to be removed from the UN Security council. But their veto buddies, China won't like that.
