Some events are more challenging than others if you are new to the feel of the game ... Because the cars are a bit tricky. ( hard to say if patch has helped, since I'm used to cars now)

Also, the difficulty levels don't seem to do much.
what I find is it's easier to lead a race from the front, than it is to chase down an AI than has pulled out a lead.

But enjoy, it's the close racing that makes this game so much fun

Should I avoid drifting events and should I do only event that I like the most(Favourite track and Favourite car)

Is easy difficulty good for me or should I change it? I beat Shift 1 a few times.

You obviously haven't tried any REAL SIM Racing !

Shift 2 is a toy compared to RBR, SIMBIN, iRacing and rFactor !

Sure it's a fun game but the longevity of it is not going to last very long !

I still enjoy GTR2, Race 07, GT Power Pack, GTR Evo - they have their problems also. Terrible AI, without hours of tweaking, cut corners without penalty, various bugs, etc.. It all comes down to do they deliver sim racing fun. Shift 2 is right there!

Every day I read this thread eagerly waiting for someone to say "Just downloaded 1.02 patch and I'm in Australia" and every day I'm disappointed.

.
It is funny that you insist on calling the game Arcade when I really feel the tire and suspension modeling to be far superior to GT5 as is the damage model and Im not the only one there are alot of people ver at Racedepartment and No Grip Racing that feel the same way... it sure isnt a Sim but it is closer to being one than GT5.

What isn't funny is You keeping back to compare S2U to GT5 apropos of everything and nothing...
I believe the sites You quoted refer to the PC version of the game, heavily modded...it isn't the same game!
You think S2U feels more "realistic" than GT5, I get it... I don't think that,why can't You get it?:ouch:

I just downloaded Patch 1.02 - and I am living in Europe! Waiting for a week fot that. Now is racing again :)

Hurm, no? There is nothing in-engine code wise that changes with mods for S1 or S2U. Just data. And there's nothing particularly advanced mod wise for S2U yet.

Again it's a little strange to read "x game is realistic" posts - or especiallly "game x is more realistic than game y" - with pretty much nothing standing in for "because" other than "it has game title x written on the box". It's fine for it to be treated as a subjective opinion - but there seems to be little actual testing work put into that before people start treating that as objective fact.

Data that translates to physics?

I feel the same way...there was even a thread closed where the topic was that...which isn't the case of this one!

Pretty much...dozens and dozens of hours playing both series...isn't that enough for me to decide which one feels right for me?
I never claimed one to be more realist over the other...it seems to be the Shift "crowd"\fanboys that need to claim that superior physics...I just enjoy both games...to each one his own!

Careful there...You're putting words or intentions in my mouth.
In my book: subjective opinion=\=fact.
If I always referred to my opinion as subjective and never felt the need to "force" others to agree with it how does that translate to fact?!

You on the other hand, since Shift 1 ever felt the need to share data or coding from the PC version to support Your opinion...that doesn't change the subjective perception everyone has of the game-just check the completely opposite perception of a single patch effect by a small audience like the posters in this thread-how can we find objectivity in such a subjective matter...why should anyone opinion be more "supported" than other no matter how much game data, or P.R. BS from E.A. or SMS one is able to quote?
Would I convince You-if I cared to do that- that GT5 is the ultimate simulator quoting interviews and P.R or merchandising corporate speech from Kaz or P.D.?
Don't think so...

Why does my perception of my game played in mine living room bother others?!:irked:

Just out of curiosity, aren't or weren't You professionally related to E.A. SMS or something?

Well, I'm at work, but it wasn't available yesterday afternoon and I'm not seeing any cheering and jubilation in this thread...

Probably because all of the Aussies are too busy playing the new patch perhaps?? My girlfriend is at home but I don't trust her .... Hehe. I will be home in 30 mins so I will let the Aussies know

My input on the 1.02 patch - I honestly didn't notice ANY difference in regards to how the cars handle. The FFB feels identical to how it did on 1.01 (DFGT) - I have absolutely NO idea what everyone else is experiencing (placebo effect possibly).

It's a pretty convincing placebo when it helps you get seconds off your best times without even trying on every event you reraced after installing the patch.

This patch is absolutely great.

Hi, the patch has had a small impact in how the vehicle responds to
A/ the handling is better!
B/ the wheel is better G25, less lag, better response

However; the game still freezes

I just thought you'd want to know

VVBM over in AUS

Managed to find a little time last night to grab the update (1.02 UK) & try it.

The game is now much more playable & the cars are more responsive to control input (steering & throttle w/DS3)....but there is still a lag on steering input - if my car actually behaved like this in real life, I wouldn't make it to work & back in one piece.

Why is this so hard for them to sort out, no other game has lag on control input.

But maybe that's the point...you wouldn't be controlling your real car with a DS3. I need a wheel with S2U more than I do with some other racing games (console and PC) - some things don't translate properly. I will use a DS3 for a quick pick-me-up but I loose the feel (no ff) and am not very quick.

Pacman76 you just made my day mate. Thanks for the heads up. Will be in my G27 rig in less then 2 hours. There goes the weekend. Yey!

Not going to check 24 pages, but I downloaded the 1.02 patch but it was 37 mb for me. If I remember correctly, the 1.01 patch was already 37 mb (but I had not downloaded it).

So what exactly have SMS done in this patch? So far, it looks like the control adjustment page with the sensitivites and deadzones have been tweaked because I'm still finding it hard to control a works converted Maserati GranTurismo.

I installed v 1.02 and managed two laps without crashing on nurburgring nordschleife yesterday, in a works converted car. (The PS3/game did not crash, that is). I have not been able to do one full lap without freezing before (in very fast cars) so this is a huge improvement.

Two laps is not enough to say for sure that it has been fixed though, and I have seen other users reporting that it still crashes/freezes at high speed.

Edit: it still crashes at high speed. last night I did a quick time trial on nordschleife and it crashed on lap 2. it seems to work fine as long as I crash the car a lot. but as soon as I do a reasonably clean lap the game itself crashes.
it would be a really good game if they fixed this.

I agree the SIMBIN stuff is amazing, particularly how they model debris on tires (dirt from an off, marbles etc) is extremely realistic.

The FFB feels identical to how it did on 1.01 (DFGT) - I have absolutely NO idea what everyone else is experiencing (placebo effect possibly). The only thing I noticed is that the AI seems to be less aggressive (unless that's just how the GT1 events are, I just started them on 1.02) - I can usually take the lead in turn 1 and space the rest of the race - before I at least had a struggle for a few turns (if I didn't get punted in T1).

About the 1.02 patch !

What I did was that I first deleted/uninstalled the 1.01 patch and then I did a reset of the controller page.

Restarted the game and waited for the 1.02 patch to arrive

There is definately a difference in controll and smoother FFB (and cockpit animation) (I managed to easily shave of about 2 seconds on Brands Hatch) but the whole system freeze up totally when driving a fast car on the Ring every time I try. (SMS GET TO WORK)

Input lag is minimal but I still feel that the cars are about 3 foot long !

I'd say the game is about 75 % of what it could have been !

One thing is for sure though - It's NOT real racing !

Alright, one thing that needs to change is the floatyness. Its still there and really ***** me off to drive a Corvette C6.R GT1 that slides thru corners, SMS the GT1 cars have SO MUCH downforce for a GT car its near on impossible to make them slide thru corners like its so easy to do in this game. Cmon SMS, its NOT real racing...yet.

Man you're missing out on some really great stuff !

I know, but...
- all my computers are Apples, so not much gaming going on there
- I don't have enough time for all the (non-racing) games I have to finish to justify investing in another gaming machine
- I prefer playing from the couch, and my wife won't let me set up a full gaming rig there :indiff:

So I count my blessings and I'm really happy with how Shift 2 turned out! It's going to keep me busy for a lot longer than GT5 - especially once Autolog is back up and I get my LE events back (not to mention the DLC content).

👍
