Standard cars in GT6?

They only have 500,000 in photo travel.
Oh.

What would be the point? If they already model the cars to a high quality level why not do the best they can? Making the cars lower poly doesn't mean you are going to get more cars, (at least not many more) it would just mean they would have to update all those cars AGAIN for the next game.

This is exactly why the cars are so detailed now, they are ready for future games with just minor improvements.
I just thought that if they didn't model every single nut and bolt or brake light pulb in the car, it would save time and space. But you have a good point.
Im just afraid if they make them so high detailed it cuts down car count and variety too much, because most stantard cars are my favourites (AE86, Supra, Chaser, S14 etc.) and there's many unique and oddball car like fiat panda or 240 volvo, and i wouldn't want them to cut them off.

Oh.

True, there's many areas they could have cheaped out that would even be noticeable but they decided to model everything, even the things we many not see often.

They actually modeled the restraints on the inside of the Lamborghini Aventador's pop-up spoiler...

Meh? Soon I think PD will model viruses and bacteria in the game that you can zoom in on (and it will make your driver sick).

Slightly exaggerated but that's how I feel.

And yet they did not model the engine on the modern Fiat 500.

You're probably right, but if technology continues it's current trend the cars they just made would need re-made again in another few years.
Taking as much detail ass possible cuts down on re-visits to keep a car you already put in the game.

But why should they? That Fiat 500 would probably be one of the few cars that people spend the least amount of time driving. If I recall correctly, then the last time I drove one was 4 months ago because I was really bored.

I have a tune for the old one in my garage. And why would they? Well, why would they model the restraints of the Aventador's wing when that probably isn't even visible when you are driving right behind one?

That's the point I'm trying to make. Why would you bother modelling something that 90% of the time you're not even going to see it?

premium cars are a waste of time,

No they aren't. They were build for the future in my opinion.

mikecustom
level, make them like NFS shift's models or like forza's models, those are good enough

Funny that you mention Forza. They use between 800.000 - 1.000.000+ polygone in Autovista and Photomode.

I agree 100%. The word "standards" should have never been created and should be erased from everyones vocabulary after GT5. If they have standards again in GT6 I promise I wont even rent GT6. I will officially give up on the series. I didnt even buy GT5 after I heard about the "standards", I got GT5 as a christmas present. Its the only GT game I did not purchase. I even own the JPN and EUR versions including the Prologues. When I heard we could not change the wheels, no interior view, and could not bring the standards to photo travel, I knew I wasnt buying the game. Just insulting to the fans of the series. I do appreciate that 2 years later there have been improvements to standards but still, the standards are nowhere near premiums.

If you want my money KAZ, there better not be a single "standard" car in GT6. :ouch: Hopefully Kaz is finally listening to the community. He clearly wasnt with GT5.
Everyone needs to quit whining about standards. Standards aren't that bad. It could be worse; all of them could be standard. Not buying GTs because of standards is a pretty lame reason. I like premium cars, but be grateful we have as many premiums we have now.

Right, I just spent some time seeing which Standard cars can easily be converted to Premium. By that I mean the car already has a Premium counterpart (e.g. the Standard M5 and Premium M5). Little tweaks and different liveries may be needed for its looks, but for the most part, the car is already modelled.

No, in my opinion having Bob there to help you ruins the experience of a driving simulator like the GT series...

So no, leave B-spec at GT5....

I think the opposite. B-Spec did me so much good in GT5 and GT4.

Everyone needs to quit whining about standards. Standards aren't that bad. It could be worse; all of them could be standard. Not buying GTs because of standards is a pretty lame reason. I like premium cars, but be grateful we have as many premiums we have now.

Ah so car standards from 7 years ago in a next gen console works for you?

Im sorry if I wanted that I would buy something else from that era and save alot of money.

Right, I just spent some time seeing which Standard cars can easily be converted to Premium. By that I mean the car already has a Premium counterpart (e.g. the Standard M5 and Premium M5). Little tweaks and different liveries may be needed for its looks, but for the most part, the car is already modelled.

You forgot a few, actually :)

I could've included basically every version of the Lancer Evo too; I through IV shared many parts, V and VI are very similar, and VII through IX all are essentially facelifts as well. I included the Scoobies on the basis of you including the R33 GT-R Road Going Version from Nismo: that would take a far amount of remodelling, at least as much as punching out some new noses and taillights for the existing '05 STI :). On that basis, the 147's may be a bit too different from the '06 model, but I can't imagine so. The Integras/RSX is a simple facelift.

I'd say the front-drive Clios/Lutecias probably shouldn't be on the list: they're very different cars from the mid-engine lunatic. But either way, your list is awesome, for pointing out how easy it'd be to convert a vast chunk of GT5's car list to Premium: 517 (and more) just using the current Premium lineup as a base is impressive. Even more when you consider, in reality, we don't need every tiny permutation of a model, but even if PD wants to keep them in, a lot of their work is pretty much done for them.

It'd be interesting to compare your list with the "erase the duplicates/very very similars" list that floats around, to see how many actual unique cars PD would need to work on.

It's not a lame reason. If they can't make one of the most noticeable and obvious parts of the game consistent, they don't deserve my money.

And standards aren't that bad? I'll believe that once PD allows us to get as close as we want to them in photo mode and allow us to use them in Photo Travel.

Holy wotsit, that's changed my perspective somewhat! I expected PD would be at about the 400 - 500 mark of entirely new models by this November, but this means that they're likely to be beyond that already.

Of course, there are likely to be casualties from that list, like there were from GT2, and that means more of the cars will be scratch built (or maybe there'll just be new "duplicates".) But still, it's looking promising for well over 700 Premium cars in GT6 now.

I also had a few extras in, oops!

The relationship between Evo I-III, Evo IV-Evo VI, and Evo VII-IX, are that they are facelifts, essentially (cosmetically wise). Likewise with the GC and GD Subaru Imprezas. The same applies for a few other cars as well, like the 147 in your example, so I think your idea makes a lot of sense. 👍

Thanks! :)

Hopefully, PD don't lazy out again and just port them over. That'd be terrible!

Unique cars, as in, say, a first generation Ford Focus? Where there aren't any prior models to use as a basis?

I really don't understand what you guys are doing here. The assumption seems to be that cars are modelled then various additional features are bolted on or taken off making the models interchangeable, but that's simply not how they are modelled. You're kinda confusing real life with 3D modelling.

Sure there are many instances where PD have done that deliberately, but within premiums, or within standards. There isn't that compatibility between premiums and standards, the latter of which were modelled for the PS2 and contain a far lower polygon count.

Premiums need to be pretty much scratch-built, and surely their time is better spent modelling different models entirely, than focusing on having two DB9s, two Clios...etc?

Sorry if this doesn't come out nice @1241Penguin, but I'm not really digging that list at all. Cars like the DB9 '03, the M5 '05, the Lutecias and those duplicates expect for the premiums but the standards ones. You're also missing some cars like the TVR Speed 12.

Why do we need all those Skylines and S2000s and the others that are the same again? The old ones should be scraped away, no need for them, and for the duplicates they need to be scraped away as well so there can be room the news cars, such as more space for the variety of other cars that'll be new in Gran Turismo.

do we need 2 of the same model ie a R34 99, 00, 01, I understand if is a Nismo GTR 99 and a bltiz 99 GTR etc etc but why have one car 3 or 4 times over.

I don't see the big deal in the whole standard vs premium debate it's the preminum difference that you can see inside the cockpit or em I missing something.

PD should have used certain premiums to replace duplicate standards, eg : R32 GTR premium could have been used for all standard version R32 GTR, including Nismo R32 GTR S tune, with some minor changes like wheels and badges. This way duplicates of standard could be had in premium rather easily and less work.

Ooops, treed:crazy:

Mazda RX-7, RX-8, MX-5 and many other cars can be changed from standard to premium.

Exactly like what 1241Penguin posted earlier, so many standard cars should have been premium with little time and effort, PD is just damn clueless or what:yuck:

After thinking about it for a while, although many cars could have been premium with minor efforts, is it just me or am I the only one who wouldn't appreciate having 7 different re-named cars that are exactly the same in the new car dealer? When I put it this way, I think that the duplicates that are often found in the UCD should have been omitted from the game completely, as they are a waste of space and resources.

I hate the standards but end up using them a lot because they seem to be better handling cars, for example the ford gt no stripe is far superior to the premium ford gt! That really annoys me

Another reason why I dislike standard cars, although for some reason I liked them better than premium cars at the start of the game for their tinted windows :odd: . Nearly all standard cars have better handling than their premium counterparts because the standard cars are directly imported from Gran Turismo 4 and given a slight touch up so that they don't look too bad. But unfortunately that means that they have a little bit of the older physics in them, where despite the horrific understeer in GT4, they still had better grip than cars in GT5 at times.
