The 20 tracks issue is really bugging me

if the feature list is wrong why do we expect 1000 cars

1,000 cars was confirmed at Gamescon by posters, number of tracks were not

14 Confirmed Tracks

Daytona
Indianapolis
Suzuka
Fuji
Eiger
High Speed Ring
Tokyo R246
London
Nurburgring
Tsukuba
Le Mans
Top Gear
Rally Japan
Rally Tuscana

9 tracks are entrenched in the GT series

Test Course
Grand Valley
Trial Mountain
Special Stage R5
Midfield
Deep Forest
Apricot Hill
Laguna Seca
Monaco

That's 23 total tracks

Hardly believeable GT5 will only launch with 20 unique tracks.

Well it was printed on the side of the Subaru in the E3 trailer (like it was entered in the Rally of Japan) than at gamescom it was replaced with WRC (not in a rally).

I would like to see at least the best rally stage of all time, Neste Rally Finland Ouninpohja. Or just give us a track editor :)

I've just noticed something... of how much significance it is I do not know, and I'm unsure as to whether anyone else has also noticed the same thing.

I was reading the 'Gran Turismo 5 Game Features Announced' article (https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-game-features-announced/) on GTPlanet, on the day that the article was written. However, it seems as though since the time writing some of the wording of the article has been edited, regarding the number of tracks to appear in the game!?!?

I then happened to find the article as it was orginally posted on GTPlanet on the "virtualr.net" website (http://www.virtualr.net/gran-turismo-5-officially-announced/)

Originally, the article on GTPlanet read
"60 tracks confirmed with 20 or more to be revealed"
I cannot be more sure of it, with the excitement of reading that figure, in addition to the number of cars expected in the game; however, the same article on GTPlanet now reads, and I quote
more than 20 courses, more than 60 layouts
- that's a hell of a change... which is true though... which is the better translation?

A word of notice... the remainder of the list, of features to appear, is exactly the same, word for word... so, why is the wording about the number of tracks different on each of the lists. Additionally, "virtualr.net" cites GTPlanet as its source of information, for this list, meaning that the list on "virtualr.net" was how the list originally appeared on GTPlanet. A comment posted by "vassalfada", on the 18th of August, (which was the day on which this article was initally written), includes a complete copy of the original GTPlanet list, and regarding tracks it reads
■ Courses
60 courses confirmed with 20 or more to be revealed :scared:
Meanwhile "JDigital" claims a better translation, which reads exactly the same as the original article, regarding the number of courses to appear in the game... this is the proof that I have...

Is it just me, or do I smell a rat?!
What are your thoughts on this?

Unfortunately the truth is probably a little bit of denial.

The quote ( in japanese ) was released claiming "more than 20 courses with over 60 layouts"

But then that number didn't sit well with a lot of people so it was changed to "60 courses confirmed with more than 20 to be revealed"..... because that sounds a lot better.

The fact that the article on GT planet first told us the 2nd quote and then changed it to the 1st quote tells you everything you need to know. I'm sure that before they changed it they had to have the japanese translated by 3 separate sources all claiming the first quote as an accurate translation.

And I'm sure that the translation IS accurate "20 courses 60 layouts" but I'm just hoping that the entire origin of this japanese quote right from the very beginning was faulty information.

Simple SIM you've got it the wrong way round... they told us the 1st quote, which was changed to the 2nd quote, not as you have said from the 2nd quote to the 1st quote... hence the reason for which this thread was commenced. This information was meant to keep no-one happy!

If it does have 20 tracks, it will be on launch, with DLC on the way, it doesn't mean 20 period, it means 20 now, more later, alot of people get stuck on the number and don't realize that they're making the PSNetwork more accessible to non-credit card owners, vouchers and pre-paids, it's setting up a system where the majority of users will have access to $DLC, and no doubt ( as seen by GTTV ) that GT is incorporating payable content, with options to sacrifice much and get all for all times, and options to sacrifice little and only to what catches your eye(car packs, track packs).

Personally i'm getting the all-inclusive anyway, ever been to Cuba without open bars?

My opinion is that if the 20 tracks thing is true then PD decided to focus all their efforts on modeling cars these past years.

We get 20 starter tracks,

Daytona
Indianapolis
Suzuka
Fuji
Eiger
High Speed Ring
Tokyo R246
London
Nurburgring
Tsukuba
Le Mans
Top Gear
A rally track

+ the gran Turismo regulars

Test Course
Grand Valley
Trial Mountain
Special Stage R5
Midfield
Deep Forest
Apricot Hill

Starting not too long after the release of the game PD starts releasing tracks for DLC

That's when I think you will see the Spas, the Monzas, the Valencias pop up.

If there are just 20 tracks it's my belief that PD thought there was more money in selling tracks as DLC then there was in selling car packs as DLC.

Alot of drivers may not be interested in certain car packs, but EVERYONE is going to want to drive that new track.

But that being said, 20 tracks still seems like a low number.

Amar's winds say 90+ tracks, or at least variations, which is around the GT4 number.. Only a questionable list that was pulled quickly says 20 tracks. We'll know for sure at TGS.

Here's a scenario.

Lets say the 20 track rumour is correct.
Now, maybe Kaz does have some of his people reading this and other forums and realises the discontent that the 20 track rumour has produced.
Being the nice man we think Kaz is, he thinks to himself I can't let my fans down like this, i'll have to delay the release to include more tracks on the disc.
Now (totally wild guess here) it's takes 1 month to develop 1 track, Kaz being the nice guy he is decides to include another 40 tracks (you do the maths).:scared:

What i'm getting at if it's true accept it and move on, although i would prefer not to have DLC personally it would be better than having another long delay.

To sum up just be a bit more patient until we get official news (surely we have had alot of practice at it).

Personally i'm not a big fan of DLC but I would pay a small amount for continual improvement of GT5 until/if GT6 is released.

Just my two cents.....

It was written on the GT Japan site "Over 20 Courses and Over 60 Layouts".
Here's the screenshot of that page.

20コース以上(Over 20 Courses), 60以上のレイアウト(Over 60 Layouts)

Very unfortunate if it is true.

*** was beaten to my point by EARTH.***

Your point is probably the best of this thread so far.

I believe the list is talking specifically about the cut down 'cheaper' version.

We just need to look at the winds for more clarification.

- There will be close to 100 tracks including layouts, to play on GT5.
- The 'cheaper' version of GT5 will only let you play 20 or so of these. This isnt so bad if we believe the wind about a track editor.
- The cheaper version will allow you to build up more tracks via DLC, or the just by unlocking the tracks that are already on the disc via payments on the PSN.
- The 'greater version' will have access immediately to all the tracks on the disc and probably have most of the DLC tracks available for free as and when they are ready.

PD has to make money on DLC somehow, its a massive revenue stream. They're not going to cut back on cars because thats a huge selling point, and cars wont sell that well on PSN.

Would you spend £5 on a couple of new vauxhall/opel astras and corsas?
You would spend £5 on 2 brand new tracks though.

There is one problem with having tracks as DLC though... the GT Mode. How will downloaded tracks be able to be integrated into the GT Mode? Additionally, the GT Mode would be, in effect, incomplete with only 20 tracks, and it would be truely stupid if you had to download additional tracks, especially for money, so that they are not only playable, but also so that they unlock new events, or such, in the GT Mode. I mean the way you are making it sound is that we will simply be buying a starter pack, and we'll have to subsequently update it with DLC, for which you'd most likely have to pay! That's just utterly rediculous.
And "Earth", how do you suppose you'd make 60 layouts out of the 20 tracks you have named? especially seen as the original tracks, which always, and probably will, come as standard, will have only 2 layouts each... normal and reverse?

GT Mode could be limited, but more likely will be fully open to those who have bought the 'greater' version of GT5. There will probably be a lot of tracks on the disc that have to be unlocked via PSN. If you bought the more expensive version of the game, these tracks would probably be available to you instantly.

As for track combinations?
For one, the top gear test track could probably have ten variations due to the fact its practically just a big open space.
And second, have you ever played some of the other racing sims? Theres game out there that manage to wrangle stupid number of variations of tracks just so they dont have to create any new ones. saves money in development. Im sure theres one track in grid thats used at least 4 different ways, and then 4 ways in reverse. The need for speed series was another example.

A downloadable track can add new races/events to the GT mode that are not there in the bare bones game

I highly doubt PD is sitting on 40 tracks and they are refusing to release them at launch, but rather are holding them back to milk us for the next few years. I think it make more sense to believe if the 20 track thing is true they put tracks on the back burner in favor of modeling an insane amount of cars.

Remember Amar's 5th wind about there being "two reuninons" or perhaps two versions of GT5. Something tells me if the 20 track thing is true the "basic" GT5 will only get 20 tracks, while the other "reunion" gets them all. I don't know, its so confusing.

I could only come up with 48 variations on the 20 tracks. I'm sure there are a few variations i'm overlooking that would give you 60

Do you reckon, if we go by Amar's winds, that if there are going to be two versions of GT5, a substandard and a premium version, that we'll hear about it at TGS... or will PD keep quiet about it for now, try and milk us dry first by releasing the standard version, and then release the premium version when most DLC has been acquired?

I apologise if I sound impatient... I just want to get some views off of other people! The anticipation is killing me, haha :P

Tsukuba is a real life course, that Course will not have a backwards track. PD have always stressed that the real courses will not have a backwards track at all.

I think the backlash would be too great if they had us pay $60 for the game now, milked us for about $50-100 for 10 DLC tracks, then released a premium version of GT5 with every DLC track included for $60.

If there are two versions I see them beling released at the same time.

Remember the 5th wind says "pay a higher price now, and get all future treasures without having to pay anymore"

That sounds like 20 tracks now, with many more to come soon after relase through DLC, and free if you got the premium version.

Anticipation is killing me too, can't wait to get it all settled at TGS.

Your right, I thought I had raced it backwards in GT4

Does that sound like only 20 tracks?

Only 20 tracks? Awwww.... How many do you really want? A Formula One game has less than that, with NO variations, and that's more than enough.

Only 20 tracks? Awwww.... How many do you really want? A Formula One game has less than that, with NO variations, and that's more than enough.

I think the main problem with just 20 tracks is that most of them are going to be tracks that we've already raced in GT5P or in GT4.

If at TGS they announce the 20 tracks in my list plus a handful of new ones, like Spa, Monza, Bathurst, Road Atlanta and....

wait.

I just remembered the weather map.

Remember all the tracks on the weather map?

I have to say, this thread has shown me a lot about the power of denial. Myself and a few other members have tried to keep people informed with the facts, but it's lost in a sea of interpretations and theories about what the real meaning is.

It's so bad that clix, who, if you look closely, is from JAPAN, even posts yet another successful translation (directly from the original and only source of all this discussion) and the very next post says "I THINK THERE'L BE 100 TRACKS", with noone even acknowledging his efforts.
