The WWF of presidential debates. :boggled:

Very different from the 2016 debates. Trump was very unprepared & weak in 2016 against HRC. It was like he wasn't heavily invested in the outcome as he didn't expect to win the election. This time he has everything to lose & he was more belligerent & aggressive than ever. I don't think Biden did particularly well, but he didn't do that badly either. At the end of the day it seems to me that nothing has changed that much. People either want a self-confident, self-assertive bully as President, or they want someone less assertive, more conciliatory & willing to listen to & take advice from others.

As I previously said: it's appalling to think that there will be two more of these. :ill:

He feels that because he's president, he can tell them to intimidate and assault people going to vote.

That's effectivley the feeling I got when he told his supporters to watch the polls during these elections.

I'm admittedly not super familiar with the history of Panama, but the whole thing reminded me of Manuel Noriega's Dignity Battalions during his dictatorship.

Well Biden called Trump a racist and a clown. I don't recall that ever happening in a debate.

Meanwhile Trump attacked Bidens sons, told his supporters to "watch the polls," and told a well-known white supremacy group to "stand back and stand by," an order that they have very happily acknowledged.

First, as far as The Proud Boys go, I don't think they are racist. But, I don't like them confronting antifa and fighting. It's certainly not helpful to the cause.

The Proud Boys aren't the ones meanicing the streets. That is BLM and antifa.

At least Trump acknowledged his thugs, and told them to stand down.

Biden wouldn't even admit antifa exists.

At least Trump acknowledged his thugs, and told them to stand down.

If that message was intended to be for them to stand down, it was as clear as mud.

Stand by means something different. Followed up with “But I’ll tell you what, somebody’s got to do something about antifa and the left", it's pretty much a call to action.

Trump couldn't even get through a 90 minute debate where he was theoretically only supposed to talk for half of it without referring to Elizabeth Warren as "Pocahontas," so...

What's your point?
You know, it used to mean something when you called someone a racist.

Making fun of a white woman, who, for years, pretended to be a native American, for personal gain, is not racist.

Can someone kindly give me a brief but accurate summary of the debate?

Unfortunately with my new job and early start times I am unable to stay up and watch evening broadcasts in the US.

First, as far as The Proud Boys go, I don't think they are racist.

Let's hear from their founder, Gavin McInnes, shall we?

Gavin McInnes on his show Get Off My Lawn 29 June 2018
It’s such a rape culture with these immigrants, I don’t even think these women see it as rape. They see it as just like having a teeth [sic] pulled. ‘It’s a Monday. I don’t really enjoy it,’ but that’s what you do. I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t have the same trauma as it would for a middle-class white girl in the suburbs because it’s so entrenched into their culture.

Gavin McInnes on his show Get Off My Lawn 24 April 2018
Muslims have a problem with inbreeding. They tend to marry their first cousins…and that is a major problem here because when you have mentally damaged inbreds — which not all Muslims are, but a disproportionate number are — and you have a hate book called the Koran…you end up with a perfect recipe for mass murder.

Gavin McInness in Taki's Magazine 2 March 2017
“We brought roads and infrastructure to India and they are still using them as toilets. Our criminals built nice roads in Australia but aboriginals keep using them as a bed. The next time someone 🤬 about colonization, the correct response is ‘You’re welcome.’"

Gavin McInnes on his show Get Off My Lawn 17 January 2018
“I just realized something. Cory Booker is kind of like Sambo. He’s kind of shucking and jiving for the white man. Cory Booker grew up rich in an all-white suburb. He’s basically a white guy. His parents were very wealthy executives at IBM… .But he wants to be a black dude, so he pretends that he’s down with the brothers and he acts outraged about racism all the time — for white people. That gets him votes from whites.”

**** show. A couple of old men yelling and interrupting each other without ever saying anything useful.

People should vote for Trump. I mean, if Biden wins, Trump can't authorise that 500 billion he promised to black america.

First, as far as The Proud Boys go, I don't think they are racist. But, I don't like them confronting antifa and fighting. It's certainly not helpful to the cause.

See @huskeR32 's post for further.

Also, even if the Proud Boys aren't necessarily "as racist" (my airquotes) as other groups, it's hard to deny that racist/misogynistic ideology forms at least some part of their ideals.

The Proud Boys aren't the ones meanicing the streets.

10 Proud Boys charged for attacking protestors at a GOP rally in New York. (HuffPost, 2019)
Proud Boys members chat about committing politically-motivated violence. (Huffpost, 2019, Language Warning)
FBI classifies Proud Boys as an Extremist Organization, cites ties with White-Nationalist ideals (Washington Post, 2018)

That is BLM and antifa.

~93% of BLM protests are peaceful, despite Trump narrative (Guardian, 2020)
Data from aformentioned article (ACLED)

Here are some of the (imo) more noteworthy bits of the ACLED article:

In more than 93% of all demonstrations connected to the movement, demonstrators have not engaged in violence or destructive activity. Peaceful protests are reported in over 2,400 distinct locations around the country. Violent demonstrations,4 meanwhile, have been limited to fewer than 220 locations — under 10% of the areas that experienced peaceful protests.

Research from the University of Washington indicates that this disparity stems from political orientation and biased media framing (Washington Post, 24 August 2020), such as disproportionate coverage of violent demonstrations (Business Insider, 11 June 2020; Poynter, 25 June 2020). Groups like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) have documented organized disinformation campaigns aimed at spreading a “deliberate mischaracterization of groups or movements [involved in the protests], such as portraying activists who support Black Lives Matter as violent extremists or claiming that antifa is a terrorist organization coordinated or manipulated by nebulous external forces” (ADL, 2020).

Despite the fact that demonstrations associated with the BLM movement have been overwhelmingly peaceful, more than 9% — or nearly one in 10 — have been met with government intervention, compared to 3% of all other demonstrations. This also marks a general increase in intervention rates relative to this time last year. In July 2019, authorities intervened in under 2% of all demonstrations — fewer than 30 events — relative to July 2020, when they intervened in 9% of all demonstrations — or over 170 events.

Although federal authorities were purportedly deployed to keep the peace, the move appears to have re-escalated tensions. Prior to the deployment, over 83% of demonstrations in Oregon were non-violent. Post-deployment, the percentage of violent demonstrations has risen from under 17% to over 42% (see graph below), suggesting that the federal response has only aggravated unrest. In Portland, violent demonstrations rose from 53% to nearly 62% of all events after federal agents arrived on the scene.

Non-state groups are becoming more active and assertive. Since May, ACLED records over 100 events in which non-state actors engaged in demonstrations (including counter-demonstrations) — the vast majority of which were in response to demonstrations associated with the BLM movement. These non-state actors include groups and militias from both the left and right side of the political spectrum, such as Antifa, the Not :censored:ing Around Coalition, the New Mexico Civil Guard, the Patriot Front, the Proud Boys, the Boogaloo Bois, and the Ku Klux Klan, among others (see map below)

Of course, I'm not denying that riots and violent protests are happening, and appropriate measures need to be taken against the riots. That said, BLM (both the movement and the organization*) isn't going out of its way to set all of America on fire, contrary to what Big Daddy Trump and his administration want you to believe.

At least Trump acknowledged his thugs, and told them to stand down.

Telling a group of Neo-fasicists who are known for advocating and taking part in political violence to "stand by" (which is the other part of the quote that you've conveniently left out) is not at all the same thing as just saying "stand down." In fact, it's the complete opposite.

Biden wouldn't even admit antifa exists.

Joe Biden says Antifia exists as an idea, not as an organization. While I wasn't at all fond of Joe Biden's answer, he also isn't completely wrong either, and a few statements from the FBI kinda back him up. Antifa is a bunch of groups/cells that all claim to be under the same banner, but have different objectives and methods within each group. They are a very decentralized group with no actual leadership, which ideally would make it harder for them to gain traction. The FBI did say that some individuals were dangerous and they could be a potential threat.

Thing is, though, is that the minute you treat Antifa as an organization (which is what Trump did by marking them as a terrorist organization), you give them power, legitimacy, and a reason to actually organize their forces. That is the complete opposite of what one wants, and every time Trump brings them up (which he does all the goddamn time), he continues to keep them relevant.

Granted, since Trump continues to give those numbnuts attention, I would've very much liked to see Biden fully condemn them as well.

You know, it used to mean something when you called someone a racist.

Making fun of a white woman, who, for years, pretended to be a native American, for personal gain, is not racist.

It is still, at absolute minimum, a very offensive slur with racist connotations and is 100% uncalled for and unprofessional, no matter the context. The President of the United States should not be speaking in such a manner when talking to his fellow politicians, no matter what side of the aisle they're on.

Imagine monkeys flinging poo mixed with the Spiderman-pointing-at-Spiderman meme. That's pretty much it.

*Full Disclaimer: BLM The Organization does kinda suck, and they do hurt BLM The Movement quite a bit imo.

Trump was aggressive, constantly interrupting Biden. The moderator had to remind him of the rules over and over again, it felt pretty much like a kindergarten. Biden seemed to lose balance initially but he handled it better towards the end of the debate. Trump appeared confident while Biden had some trouble finding the correct words.

Trump
+ Appeared confident
+ Had some strong points about the Biden’s political history
- Didn’t have any concrete message, no promises, nothing. Not even a wall.
- Ended up arguing with the moderator on a few occasions, could not accept the rules of the debate.

Biden
+ Responded pretty well to Trump’s provocations.
+ Had some strong points about Trump as a divisive leader.
- Didn’t present a lot of concrete ideas.
- Had trouble finding the right words at some occasions.

The moderator
+ Great courage.
+ Didn’t allow Trump to bully his way through the debate.
+ Asked tough questions to both candidates.
- He would have needed some kind of penalty system.

@huskeR32

Screw your cancel culture. that doesn't work any more.
What does @huskeR32 quoting someone has to do with cancel culture?
You already played a predictable WhatAbout card (Clinton's emails Hunter Biden Amazon tax) a few messages ago to defend Trump regarding NYT tax reveal. That was desperate but at least i understood the rhetorical mechanism. Here, not at all.

I've just watched the debate here. (Skip to 27 minutes for the action)

It was background while I did other things so I didn't focus completely on many details.
it felt pretty much like a kindergarten.
Sums it up reasonably from what I saw.

The moderator

I vote for electric shocks.

Chris Wallace turned out to be the unofficial 3rd party candidate. Else that’s the vibe given off since Trump spent nearly as much time arguing and interrupting him as he did to Joe.

I would love to see a full debate circle of these 2 and any other 3rd party candidates now.

That was a super desperate and pathetic tactic for Trump to take going into the debate. For that to be your strategy... you've got nothing.

Wait, so squeaky wheel gets the oil should NOT be used as a debating tactic?

Your bronzer daddy called on you and the rest of his based base to cancel Goodyear.

Trumpkin and GOP congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine called to cancel Dolly Parton.

Give it a rest, pest.
I think DeAnna calls to basically cancel anyone & anything she thinks is "bad".

Which is ironically why her family cancelled her.
