Wood was $14 at home depot +$8 saw, had a screwdriver, tape measure and pencil already. Brackets were another $14 from wal-mart, probably could have done better but hardware store was closed :-) Power drill was $30 after I realized the blisters wouldn't be worth it after I got all the brackets in (4 screws each)

And it fits my measurements perfectly :-) Not the greatest craftsmanship, but it's strong and it does the job.

👍 recommend DIY, no table is going to replicate the laid back feeling of driving a sports coupe.

I made a "cockpit" out of an $8 Ikea TV tray and wood scraps.

It looks awful but it actually works pretty well. I put pics and notes here:

I call it "Ghetto Turismo."

Wish I had welding gear, heh.

HEY! That is EXACTLY just like my setup...except i don't have that extra wooden board for the pedals. My room is carpeted, so I just bust out the little "spikes."

I even have an leather office chair with the wheels, but no arm rests. It's actually the same chair I use on my comp, so if I feel like playing GT4 or if i wanna take a look at my comp while playing GT4, i can just slide around, back and forth :)

[EDIT]: I don't have a ferret though.

i know its problably been asked but iam not gonna read thru 80pages of thread to find it....basically the pedals in my DFP die intermittently, and need a couple of quick presses to get it working again. i know theres some home DIY fix. is it worth it or get warranty

I've only used my wheel a few times. I think it's much easier to play with the controller then the steering wheel. The wheel tries to steer in the opposite directionand if you let go of the wheel it starts turning left and right by its self. It's not like a real car. I think I might sell mine.

have you ever tried cornering reall fast with a rear wheel drive car and not felt the steering wheel trying to countersteer on its own? even in some new 4wd cars i've driven i've felt the wheel wanting to "go the opposite direction" when you turn in hard and the weight is all shifted towards the front. 👍

Some people here complain that the FF is too weak, others that its too strong. I guess Logitech cant satisfy everyone. :dopey:

......................................................

those are some cool cockpits u guys have made. 👍
Maybe give those wooden ones a paintjob. or if ur using rusty metal make it look new?

To everyone who complains about the wheel, you have to realize that when you're playing the game, you're reaching really high speeds. It may not seem "realistic" because sitting at home playing the game, you can't get the sense of speed you're going. If you cruise at like 35mph and steer the car, it's much easier.

Looking at the last few posts, I have to make a few comments:
To Koojo, have you ever driven a le mans prototype at 200+ mph? Probably a bit different than driving down your street. I personally haven't but I would guess the car twitches a bit.

Second, to horseflesh and red_infinity, I too use a tv tray (but mine is from costco). It works alright with two hands on the wheel, but when you start spinning the wheel and using the stick, it gets a bit wobbly.

Lastly, I have a few quick questions, and understandably, I really don't feel like going throuh all 17 pages of 100 posts to find the answers.
#1: Can you use a DFP on a computer. I read that someone was using one for the GTR demo.

#2: What seems to be the general consensus, paddles or sequential? I personally like paddles, but for tracks like Costa di Amafali, when my hands arent always at 3 and 9, i use the sequential.

flanders, did ya notice he added a reinforcement thingy to tbe bottom? or was that how it comes normall?
the wheel works for PC. better than on PS2 sofar. 👍

Paddles for Race cars, shifter for road/sports cars.

I'm having serious troubles with my new Driving Force Pro, I set it up correctly (power plugged in, usb plugged in, etc), turn on my PS2 (silver limited edition) and GT4 is in it.

When GT4 loads, the wheel auto-calibrates itself (steering wheel turns left then right).

But when I try to actually USE it in the game, nothing happens. It doesn't work, only the Dual Shock 2 controller works.

Anybody have any ideas what might be happening? (I did try both USB ports, too)

Cheers

plug it in to the other USB port. port 1 = first player, port 2 = 2nd player

Unplug your pedals from your DFP. Calibrate, in GT4 setting!!!! Use the x button for throttle and the square for brakes. This is just a test to see if your pedals are the problem. I have the same problem. My pedals don't work anymore and I have to use the x and square buttons (on my DFP) to accelarate and brake. It is not easy to play in GT4 this way but it is the only thing I can do.

Do you have a controller plugged into port 1? If so, remove it.

Sometimes I use the DS2 and DFP at the same time. I use my right hand to accelerate and brake with the DS2 and steer with my left hand with the DFP. So, normally there is no conflict between the DS2 and DFP, when they are connected at the same time

LOL!! Can you show us a picture of this way of playing? I could not do it for a million $ !! :)

I don't know how.
Do you want to see me driving this way or all the crashes and me getting of track on the grass all the time, LOL, me too laughing very hard, hehe!!

No, really, it is not that bad, but I have to because my pedals don't work anymore I never learned how to drive with the DS2, only with steering wheels.

I can't post smileys, mmmm!!!

Can someone tell me what the maximum opening for the clamps is on the original Driving Force? And the DFP too if possible? I have a table sitting in the garage which aint being used and if the wheel can clamp onto it then I'll pick up the wheel :D

Mate, did your wheel register or work AT ALL? Like, could you steer at least?

Yep!! The wheel (DFP) works just fine. I used to have a MOMO racing and used the pedals from the MOMO racing with the DFP.
I sold the MOMO (stupid mistake) and got stuck with the DFP pedals which weren't working that good. And about 14 days ago,
the pedals stopped working at all.
Testing them on my PC with that latest wingman driver didn't give any result either. So, at this moment, the only solution is to use
the x and square button on the DFP.
I know it is stupid but I can't drive properly with the DS2 (never learned how),
I can't even drive properly with the DFP, lol :dopey:

LOL, Thta's exactly the project I had in mind. I saw taht coffee table for $10 you can't beat that. I know it's not the best looking, but I bet it's the cheapest and still doeas the job.

After intens playing today, my brakepedal started to show the bug I was afraid of. It brakes something like 10% without touching it. Not very handy if you're in a fight on the Ring.

I have my DFP since june last year and love it
So what did i do just now??

I called logitech and after explaining the problem they friendly asked for my address and they are going to send me a new set of pedals within the next 2 weeks. (and I can keep my current set)

Thank you Logitech for this service!

I bought GT4 and a driving force pro wheel at the same time; until GT4 was released I had always played GT3 using the gamepad.

Frankly, the wheel is disgusting. A quick test confirmed that I'm faster around the nurburgring with the gamepad than the wheel. At $300AUD for the wheel, you'd better believe I'm unhappy. To preclude anyone asking: no, it isn't for sale.

The wheel also makes it near-impossible to catch the rear end (this is pretty important around the nurburgring in an "I want to go in reverse for a bit" MR-2); admittedly my blowing half my imported cash on a Buick so I couldn't afford racing tyres doesn't help.

This isn't a manifestation of "I can't drive"-ism; I can punt a modified (but not extreme) AE86 around with a gamepad in GT3 faster than most people can punt the N1 spec GTR.

My honest advice would be ask a storeperson if you can try the 900- degree wheel. If you decide that you love it, lighten your wallet. If, like me, you wonder if it's worth the investment, try it in 200- degree mode (to simulate the cheaper wheel) and if you don't like that, stick with the gamepad.

Finally, if you do buy the Pro, use the wheel in the 'low power' mode. In high power mode, it is heavier than my Ford Marquis (351cid V8, iron everything) was with a broken power steering belt. I'm quite serious.

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that using the 200- degree mode and full strength forcefeedback is the best way to use this wheel with snappy cars like the MR-2.

Does anyone know if the DFP will work with Xbox with an adapter? I don't want to have to reinvest in another wheel when Forza comes out if I don't have to.
