Congrats Gman! Glad we finally pulled this thing off, but sorry I couldn't make it. Sounds like it was quite an event! Thanks to everyone for sticking it out and showing up for the reschedule. The connection problems we had when we first tried to run this really threw a wrench in the works so we apologize for the prolonged saga with getting this race run. We'll do our best to make sure things run more smoothly next time, barring any more connection issues of course.

I believe our next event is going to be a NASCAR event so keep your eyes open for upcoming details!

No problem, I don't even remember the incident. Yeah, I run with ABS off.

Blaze, that was a great little battle we had at the end. Sorry if I held you up at all, but my tires were almost completely gone. I did the race in 1 stop, which I think was a mistake. My lap times were 3 or more seconds off the pace by the end of each stint, so I'm lucky pj didn't end up catching me.

Pj, great race. I was really nervous when you were taking 3+ seconds per lap off the gap. I don't doubt that you'd have won without those extra pitstops you had to take.

Last, thank you Owens and Brandon for these ASRA races. My internet didn't work for the Indy 500, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one and look forward to more in the future. I appreciate the organization that goes into making these races work smoothly. 👍

You did a 1 stop? Impressive 👍 I was wondering why you weren't pitting again.

NASCAR, have a good chance at winning that.:)

Ps. If its Daytona are we doing restrictor plates?

Haven't gotten that far yet, going to discuss things with Owens. I'm not very experienced with racing NASCAR on GT5 so I don't know what the standard practices are. By restrictor plates do you mean dialing the power limiter back so it's not at full horsepower? I know what they are in the real world but don't know how they pertain to GT5.

How in the world did you make your tires last that long? I felt the need to take 4 stops just for tires. Granted I rushed a few due to damage, but not by a ton. Were you on softs the whole race? Were you in an F10? Did you save tires by not locking up on braking, somehow?

I was running an F10, and the tires were definitely too far gone when I pitted. The car was still surprisingly manageable, but lap times were too slow. I think I may have actually been better off pitting twice.

I didn't have too many lockups and tried not to abuse the tires out of tighter turns (usually left it in 3rd instead of downshifting). I think maybe the F10 is just easier on tires than the F2007? I'm not sure, I haven't driven an F2007 yet.

Yes, restrictor plates on this are just limiting to 502 horsepower really.

And congratulations potatochip for being the first to win two legs of the triple crown!

Just the Indy 500 to go.:)

Darn, i've still yet to take a single leg of that. Competition is very tough for it though.

F2007 is really easy around cote D'azur

if you used comfort softs you wont pit

F2007 is already easy.

I didn't know that this event was at july 7

When will the Brickyard 400 thread be posted?

Soon!!! Need to get with B and get started on it.

Anyone have tips to offer on Brickyard we are all ears. As for power levels, etc etc.

Not sure, I've raced both full power and restrictor plate power(502 BHP) and the racing was close but tougher then Daytona to stick with a driver.
One thing is for sure though, use Racing Hards, Racing Softs=:yuck: Flat out in full power, just to grippy.

there was an update that ruined the racing compounds which made them wear at the same rate months ago

Right now for sure comforts and sports and racing wear off differently

when Sebastian Vettel made his lap times in the X1 on youtube

he was actually using supersofts if you pause at the menu part of the video

Im assuming there's going to be a future update with supersofts and even superhards because they have it in real life or maybe they are keeping the update for 'GT6'

They just have to work on the wearing rate.

I'm back most definitely for the Brickyard 400 and tips as to what to run NASCARs there. If it was Daytona and you wanted to replicate real life speeds you would need to restrict but at Indy your top speed is around 200mph + with draft. You can run 44sec laps at Indy and real life I believe they run around 50sec. So you may need to dial down, but in real life Indy is unrestricted (no plate). Let me know if you need help setting this up. I know a lot of guys who may be down to race this one as well.

Super softs eh. Dang. The softs are pretty sticky. Super softs must be like Softs and ASM and SFR on.

Yes we defiantly need to do a few test sessions.

Brandon where are you? We need your insight!!!

I'm here. I haven't done much NASCAR racing on GT5 at all so I don't have much insight to offer. I think I've only done the aspec events and the special events and I don't know if I've ever raced them online. We might need to do some research on this one.

I say, do a NASCAR race at Indy. Daytona is far too easy and chaotic, Indy actually takes some skill and a good tune.

I've done only a handful. I will say the little I did was enjoyable. Ovals are fun. Start my RC racing on ovals. Kinda feels like home.

Say Saturday after the Cappy race we get some NASCAR on!!!!

We will work out of this thread for a bit. Once we decided what specs and all. We will start an official thread!!!

We can start up a discussion thread to get us by, that way people don't think there's another Monaco race.

Great idea.

Btw Ken, greatly appreciate the info!!

Hey no problem, this (NASCAR) is my niche in the game. So anything I can to do to help is welcomed.

I've wanted to join your lobbies. Afraid to be slow and in the way kept me from doing so.

Looks like it's time to come learn something. ;)

I'd like to get in on this too before we start planning the 400, get an idea of what's involved and what rules may need to be used. Do you have any NASCAR races planned for this weekend? I should be around most of Saturday, will be busy with Capp Cup from approx 2-4pm EDT.

As for anything scheduled I'm doing Indy Road Course this Saturday but that's a different beast. Most likely later tonite or tomorrow before noon I will be in a NASCAR lobby racing Daytona or Indy. I would recommend doing both, as Daytona will teach you how extreme these cars are with bump drafting at 220mph through the corners with a pack. Pack is usually 2 man draft with 2 lines, one inside and one outside. But as for longer races were pit stretegy is in play, usually only the two lead guys bump draft and the pack steals their draft and conserves behind them. It's real intense! But I would say once you can do that you should then race Indy as it's more relaxed and about pit strategy/tire wear. Say if you know you and your drafting partner have good tires compared the rest of the field, you two can pull away and bump-draft (a little more trickier here, as there is no 30* banking like Daytona). Indy is mostly conserving and slingshoting, but when hooked with a good draft buddy, you can really push (bump draft) to move ahead when needed. I love this stuff, it's too much fun and really intense. When I see you on Owens I will invite you to my lounge and I will set you up with my tunes and do some practicing. Then I will find us some racing to do online with my friends so we can get some good (and bad ....black screens, lag and idiot drivers) practice in. I always have a friend or two online in a clean NASCAR lobby.

Did some testing last night with Ken and Mudd.

We decided on Regulations:

-601hp Limit

-Racing Hards

-No Aids

-Heavy Damage

Lap times are very similar to real world. Top speeds as well similar.

Cars drive well at this level. In the draft you have to let off for turns. Also as tires wear it will require some finesse. Should make interesting to see tire and fuel strategies.

Nice thing about the power level is no need to gave a car broken in to make regulations for race. :)

Also have a tentative date and start time:

-Saturday August 13th @ 6pm EDT

Official thread will be posted this week too!

Look forward to this one. These endurance ovals are a blast.
