The new GT5 DLC just fails to deliver

I'm always happy with new content, but what bothers me is that we already had the extra content on our PS3. We only paid to unlock it. Then why on earth it's always taking PD so long to let us unlock it:scared:

I can't help but think that, if it really were a return on investment issue, that PD would be pumping the DLC packs out, just like everyone else is. They're practically pure profit for a game with such a huge "installed user base"!

Keep in mind that if it does take six (man) months to produce a premium model in GT5 then by PD time-frames they have been 'pumping' the DLC packs out and with the exception of Spa they have mostly seemed to my mind to be based on the minimum investment requited to get the most return.

This has truth dripping all over it.
I disagree

About the track money :

SSRX - 3.99 euros - No one complains
Motegi + Superspeedway - 4.99 - A few complain

O.o
Plenty complained about SSRX

How on earth do you know its already on our PS3's?

It almost certainly was not

I would say the main reason for the addition of the Schwimm-/Kubelwagen by PD was from a historical standpoint. I've always seen the history of cars, or in this case--car development history, to be a priority in GT5 by PD. The inclusion of the museum and museum card collection is strong evidence for this theory. This doesn't validate it but it might explain the WHY(because racecar-- I'm aware of this) question...:gtpflag: Their target audience with the Schwimm-/Kubelwagen, was a very "niche" market so it was quite a gamble.

I think VW paid them alot of money, but I would have prefered cars with historical value. Or historic race cars (I mean GP cars of the 20s and 30s).

It takes them so much time and money to modell a car for this game. I really feel sorry for those who had to model these two cars...

It was in the last update, so I assume he means we could have unlocked it then.

That's exactly what I mean.

You know it's there from the last 400mb update.

Ahh - my bad I thought it was being implied the content was always in the game.

Not that it makes that much difference, its fairly normal to release DLC as a 'patch' and then unlock it, the timing is more down to marketing than anything else.

I find it quite unlikely that VW paid PD to have them in GT5, if I had to guess they may well have been the 'price' that PD had to pay (in addition to a lot of money) to get Lambo in GT5, either that or Kaz just had a mad moment and asked for them to be included in the licence, but VW gain nothing by having them in GT5. The marketing advantage of having them in would be nothing in comparison to a current model version of any VW product.

Scaff, what you're saying is one single car just happens to be the same size as 4 race tracks, 200kb??? You know better than that.

I have had a look at the price for Australia $8.95 not sure I want to spend 3 bucks more when the exchange rates aren't that far apart.

Ill have to think about it.

I have downloaded the scion why not its free I'm never going to complain about free stuff.

Sorry, but this thread blows. Not all, but most of you seem as though you are around the age of 12. Perhaps you want to come sit in my cubicle for the next five hours then go home and mow my lawn....then we'll see if your still whining about DLC.

Hence why I stay away from this section at all costs during content releases...

Had a good laugh at this, worst part is that it's most likely true

Do you job. Your not getting paid to read posts on GTPlanet Or are you... :P

Motegi is a great track. The road course is like no other track in GT5, long straights, sharp and distinct corners. Probably the track where exit speed matters the most.

Depends how you look at it. I have not bought the DLC as of yet as have been away for a week, will give it a shot tomorrow.

In typical GTP drama though, another big and pointless debate based off of ones view on something.

...

Although the six-month figure is likely an exaggeration or upper-bound, especially at this late stage in both the hardware and game platforms' lifetimes, that still means that every six months there are around 20-30 cars being produced, minimum - it's a continuous process. That's assuming that half of the production staff are modelers (etc.) and half of those are working on cars. Kaz has been quoted as saying that "60% of the development time" went on cars, so the production rate is likely closer to 50 every six months, possibly more.

And GT Academy didn't take away time from modeling, but it isn't the modelers who prepare the DLC packs for download from the PSN and integration into the game - the FR-S, for instance, has been modeled at least as long as the 86 was, since they appeared in a show demo together.
I guess PD wanted everyone who worked on the logistical, testing etc. side of things to focus on those aspects for the Academy to try to avoid the issues from previous events, and to be sure it went without a hitch at all this time.

There's a chance the DLC will pick up again now, depending on how far away GT6 is (I would guess another year at least, but that's neither here nor there at this point.)
I'd personally like to see a core features and functionality update first.

Yes I'd take major game updates over DLC anyday!

I would imagine that at least some if not all of the people who worked on modeling those two interesting pieces of history found it to be a very rewarding experience, one they'll likely not repeat or forget.

The ones who had to playtest them in-game, perhaps not so much...
