I know both and what the difference is but when there is a "live" broadcasting of an i.e. sporting event, why does "live" in this case sound like "life"?

That's just like whether you will "read" something versus if you have already "read" it. Or when you turn up the "bass" while waiting for some "bass" to bight. They're called heteronyms; different words that are spelled identically. English is fun in that frustrating stupid kind of way.

Getting recognised one the street by somebody I’m barely acquainted with.

I popped into the supermarket for some cat food and at the entrance a lady says “Hi, how you doing, do you live around here?”
My first thought is how does she know me, she didn’t say my name.
Then, because her English was fine, I assumed she must be a parent of one of my students.
I replied “Yeah, I live up the road, nice seeing you” and walked off.

I still have no clue who she was because she didn’t introduce herself. And the mask covering her face didn’t make identification any easier.

Slightly annoying and rather confusing.

Perhaps she didn't know you, and had a question. How do you know she recognized you? I wouldn't introduce myself if I were simply asking for directions.

Maybe she wanted to know about your car's extended warranty?

I have a strong feeling it was one of my students’ parents. She seemed to recognise me by the way she made contact, as if we’d met before.

She didn’t look like the warranty type, nor did she have any Latter Day Saints literature on hand.

My father is annoying me again. About one hour ago, I asked him if he wants lunch, he said yes. Yesterday he didn't eat lunch and today I prepared his portion. Now that everything is ready, he refuses to eat lunch. While he was telling me that he didn't want lunch, he was chewing on something. I asked him what it is and he said it is a cookie. This is absolutely not the first time this has happened and when I confront him with the fact that he's eating cookies and refuses lunch, he gets annoyed.

I'm going to trick him into eating this lunch. I'm going to put everything, except the split pea soup and the sausage in a blender and mix it with water, so he can drink it all. I've done it before and he never refuses to drink this stuff.

I use it when I’m playing a game with models that aren’t specifically listed in that game format but run them as if they were a propriety model. The proxies are the model used in place of specifically listed models.

I have to read it a thousand times, let it sink for a long time and then I probably get it.

I hear it all the time in American shows.

Good thing a strong grasp of grammar isn't something a network security expert has to worry about.
My favorite ones are when it's barely even english at all. I tell you, the District of Internal Revenue Service should really update their automated threats. They're difficult to understand sometimes.

It is not only annoying but frustrating and a lot of time wasted (7 years) going from hospital to hospital, from specialist to specialist.

Yeah, some medical specialists I've encountered have a sort of tunnel vision and they can't see far on either side of their particular specialty, whereas a physical therapist may have overseen patients with countless ailments and actually seen them through recovery rather than merely diagnosing a problem.

Hoping things turn around.

I have something similar with my mom. Her short-term memory is completely gone, to the point where I stopped working so she can always have someone to rely on. I never leave her home alone for more than like 20 minutes. It's an obvious thing if you talk to her for about three minutes, but after years of seeing countless specialists and running endless tests absolutely NO ONE will give any kind of official diagnosis. Everyone we've gone to is too chicken:censored: and they just shrug it off. Some even just say it's just old age. She's 66 and I have to constantly remind her of simple things like if she's had lunch or not, or where we are, and we'll literally have the same conversation three or four times in ten minutes.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant.

Ever since summer started, my work has been getting more customers coming in at awful times and some being upset that our small team can't help them. Despite the fact that our dealership has only 5 sales people, two "assistants" and one sales manager. As I started with, now that summer days are longer, people tend to come in later in the day and by late, I mean an hour or less before closing hours. Especially on Saturday where we close at 5PM, but people somehow don't consider looking up the business hours or even just seeing it posted on our doors before entering the dealer. To summarize what I'm complaining about...is why is it so hard for people to be somewhat considerate to a business's employees and look up business hours before shopping at said business. The worst is when they expect to still get full service despite showing up way too late.


I feel this way for retail store employees but even worse is restaurants. Look up the hours before you decide to take your business to a store or restaurant near the end of the day. For a retail store, maybe an hour before closing is okay, but for a restaurant I find it unacceptable when time spent at a dine in can take more than an hour for the cooking, service, etc. When my brother and I are out and about, if we're looking to dine in at a restaurant, we won't go if it's just an hour before closing.

TLR It's annoying when people aren't considerate towards employees of a business and decide to shop/dine-in at a business right before closing hours. Causing employees to have to stay late or having customers upset over the fact that they aren't being served due to THEIR importance over a employee.

Federal agencies ....and indeed Apple Computer, should have been all over this by now. With their vast resources, they should have gone after and helped to prosecute these folk a long, long time ago. They just needed to make a few 'examples' of people and the cases of this would have been significantly less.

Nickelback were easy to hate because they were the cheese of rock. At a time when rockers were head bashing to Nu-metal, NB were making very uncomplicated pop rock.
I bought Nickleback’s first album and listened to it quite a lot in my youth. There were a few good tracks in there.

Never heard of Nickelback. I'll have to look this up to know if I'm going to hate or like Nickelback.

To me it's how Nickelback's singer has one of those singing voices that's hard to take seriously, and the lyric writing doesn't help. The meme is separate from my distaste for the music; they're definitely not my pick for the worst around or anything, but I would change the radio station if a song of theirs starts playing.
