I'm home from school now. Gonna chase down Bandit now :mischievous:

42.715. Was .13 ahead of Bandit entering the last sector and completely blew it  :banghead:

12.143
14.844 (I never thought this kind of sector time was even possible )

Amazing middle sector Doodle! 👍 Looks like I will have to up my game if I want to stay ahead ;)

Thanks. I'm just gonna leave it like that for now. Your sector 3's are almost too much for me. I'd be lucky to at least be no more than 1 tenth slower :nervous:

I will check out your replay to see where I can gain 2 tenths (!) in the middle sector :scared:

You guys are laying it down, nicely done. I had a good one going, down .040 until I got loose in the last sector. I'm not going to have any time until next week to try and catch you guys. Have fun.

Arr just got my ass back in to the top 250. 227th with a 43.887!
Can I ask what abs / brake balance you guys are using?

I'm using ABS 1 and BB 0/5 on my fastest lap :)

Ok thanks man! Il give it a go.. Think I was using ABS 0 BB 0/2

Just used your settings chasing your ghost and did a 43.881 for 221st then got a red 43.714!!

Huh.. Well, I'm not the best when it comes to doing these kinds of events, but I got a '45.319 on the Suzuki Time Trial using a DS3. I don't have split times to back that claim up though...

Just load your replay and drive 43.3** after 15+ laps. It put me from 115 to 44 place.
Many apexes is missed on my lap =) I continue when i back to home from work.
I think 42.9** is possible for me and i very close to get it =)

PS.
Nice lap! 👍 But i can be faster in first corner. A little bit. Around 1/100.

42.603 now but I lost almost a tenth to my ghost in the last sector :banghead:

Sector Times: 12.034, 14.952, 15.617

Heyo, brand new GT5 and GTplanet user here :)
I'm really struggeling with the Dodge, I've read that driving smooth is the key to victory on this one, but how do you guys break? I use wheels and pedals, should I slam the break or do it more gently? I really want that gold trophy :D
2.09.252 now.. Last 1,5sec seems so far away!

Ti-tech has now entered the Grand Valley battle. Already up to 9th place. Also GOLDJUNKIE is closing in fast on Amo for 1st place. I need to put some more time into that one. I've fallen back to 123rd

I looked at the top rankings, and found your name darn high up there, and thought I'd take a little sneak peak on your replay for ideas to save some seconds. But how are you able to make the rear lift so you can turn in so elegantly?

Edit: I'm talking about the Dodge Viper, not the karting-thingie. :)

Welcome to :gtplanet: . I expect Bandit will give you much better advice especially as I'm way down the table but one of the things I have noticed is you have to brake early else you get horrible understeer and never, ever use first gear. That Viper has so much low down grunt that you never need anything below second gear.

Thank you 👍 Yeah, I've read that earlier in this thread, I've switched from AT to MT, and that alone gave me 2-3 seconds faster laptimes, I'll try to fool around with the traction control now, to see if that helps. Also considering to turn ABS off, to be able to lift the back off the car a little bit more on the turn-ins.

Set Active Steering to Strong. Maybe it helps for you to find some seconds more 👍

2 more secs! Got the silver trophy now! :dunce: But it kinda feels like cheating.
Edit: Current best time; 2.09.140! Can't imagine I'd ever be as fast as you guys, but I'll cherish my small victories non-the less :)

I hope Vagabond (Chris) doesn't mind me linking to his video but it's probably the neatest and most precise bit of driving I've seen for a long while. The car is different but you may be able to get some tips regarding the line around this circuit.

I've still got that line-assist thingie on, is that a bad thing to get used to? I see the lines this awesome driver is taking is different from the ones the game show me on the course.
That fella is brilliant, makes it seem so easy! From a newbies point of view, this is a very hard game to master. His lines was pretty similar to the replay I saw of Bandit, except Bandit puts two wheels on the "curb" inside one of the tunnels. I'm struggling with everything it seems :D Breaking, entry speed, turning inn, accelerating out of corners.. the list goes on! Thanks a lot for the video, I'll try to copy his "moves" :)

Remember a lot of these racers here are GT veterans, not just 5 but previous versions too! ;) my advice to you is simple, do the licenses, they really help, practice practice & practice! Do the A-Spec races. The more you drive, the more you'll get a feel for the different cars. Try to turn off as many aids as you can as soon as you can, you will get faster. :)

I haven't spent much time on either of these Seasonals, but here are a few general tips for the Viper...

The car predoninantly understeers - it understeers when you brake, it understeers on partial throttle and it doesn't 'tuck in' if you lift off to try and unload the rear. It actually has a decent amount of traction given it's power, and only oversteers if you get on the gas hard with lock applied.

Corner entry speed is critical - if you push too hard on entry the car understeers and then takes ages to re-gain front end grip... meaning you have to wait ages to get back on the gas. So don't try to push the front too hard in to the corners.

Most of the slower corners are even slower than you think!

Use a low front/high rear brake balance (I think I used 5/9) to create some brake release oversteer (releasing the brakes sharply whilst turing causes the car to oversteer). It takes a lot of practice to get this right, and it's unlikely an averagely skilled player will be able to use this technique effectively, but this is what the fastest guys are using to create rotation on entry.

Use a quick shift down to 1st gear on entry to the slower corners - this again creates rotation and helps point the nose at the apex. Immediately change up to 2nd for the exit though.

You can use a lot of throttle on the exits as soon as you have the front wheels straight.

I think no active steering is ultimately quicker on this one if you have the skill (and put the time in) as you can create more entry rotation... but I found I was quicker with AS on strong.

You guys are right, I guess I'm being a bit impatient :) Thanks a lot for the great feedback Stotty and hol, I really appreciate it. I will try to change the breaking as you said. Even though I might not get it the first weeks, I'd like to practice on the right things, and that breaking setup is what I have sorta been wanting, to compensate for the understeering the Viper has. The 1st gear trick is kinda like locking the back wheels, so that the car slides out on behind, making it turn faster if done correctly (I do this in my driveway all winter long :)) Time to practice more! I'll post my times if they improve :)

👍 this - and the special events - especially the AMG driving school to learn the 'Ring. Try to gold each licence before you go further. Take off Traction Control to get more speed. Same with ASM. They both reduce engine output to counter your mistakes. All the A and B spec races are ridiculously easy if you try a bit and none of them require any assists except ABS=1 (although it's really good if you can learn to brake without it). Some overpowered cars (Americans and Italians) are easier to live with if you have a little TC, like 2 or something.
The line is not an issue. I still use it after all this time, but there are often alternative lines I don't consider because of that. If you get to know a track really well then you don't need the line - otherwise I'd say it was helpful.

I'll totally hit the AMG! But I got a dumb question.. Stotty said that he made the brake balance like this: 5/9 - But I can't see an option for that in the Driving Options menu.

You have to set up the RA menu and RA options on your wheel or controller. It means you have to re-map some of your buttons. Once you have RA established then you can adjust the brake balance in the race.

I used the same setup as Argon when I was on a controller, except I used R3 as the switch as I was using the triggers as gas and brake. I don't know how you guys manage with the sticks for that :irked:.

Found a nice video of how to setup RA on youtube, thank you oink! Aaaand getting a G27 tomorrow, my logitech momo is completely beaten down! As soon as my better half goes to sleep, its racing time! :mischievous:

EDIT: YES!! I've managed to get the gold trophy! 2.07.614! That RA thingie helped immensely. Cheers all for all the fantastic help! Gonna aim for the 2.06 / 2.05 range now :)

I noticed something strange - when i watch details of racer on sites like mygranturismo.net or gran-turismo.com - if racer uses AS that setting present on sites as Off. But if i watch details in game - all ok.
For example my times with "Strong" AS in pictures:
