Time Trial Discussion

Can't seem to motivate myself for time trialling at the moment. Not sure why but my theory is that I put so much effort into the Genesis VGT and 190E trials that I needed a break from the pressure of competition with you lot, I am a delicate flower after all. Every time I play, I just want to paint Plymouths and waft around Goodwood in a Barker Tourer.

Nevertheless, I couldn't let the gold streak end and can't resist those sweet credits, so knocked out some laps over a 30 minute lunch break. Not my best effort but I think good enough, quite pleased with the progress I've made in terms of being able to get decent times with minimal laps. Verdict on the TTs: Evo is great, wish I had more desire and time to push on that one; Veyron is yawn.

Good luck everyone!

oooh...we all know the feeling. You can always just gold and run with the current TTs. Your times are more than good enough to stay gold.

When I don't feel like chasing 100ths in TT, I just drive weird cars in the Nurburgring for fun.

Well, i need to first buy a playseat, then the rest of the gear, and the VR......, she would kill me before i even have the chance to buy that
How we say ot in other words ?

Desperate house..........Men

I see the picture.

You'll buy what ?

So I've been off work this week getting ready for a much needed holiday.

Today I thought it's time for the G29 to come back out...

It seems the kitten had some fun with it being stored under the bed 😯 so looks like I'll be making a repair at some point, luckily it's only the shifter so I can do without that for now.

Going to see how the Bugatti goes with this, it's probably been about 8 months since this has been out 🤞🏻
it looks we have the same setup.
Well, actually my gear**** is on the right side, because I don't feel confortabe to use the right arm accross the body the operate the leverage on the left side. How do you English people can do it?!? 😜

Question: what about the seat? I have this beautiful Sparco Ikea one

The reasons why I'm not going to a DDrive / Loading cell is $ and the fact that I feel that braking move the seat instead of pushing the pedal

Great! I have used this chair (in less vibrant colours) for three years and fixed this with a rope to the "wheelstand pro". It worked quite well but is rubbish in comparison to the GT Omega cockpit I use now. So I understand...

I feel safer now 😁

This morning I went online to do a bit of drifting which I haven't done in a while (that was actually why I was getting the wheel out this afternoon).

After getting the wheel out and jumping on the Bugatti, had a few sessions with red laps and noticed that I was understeering on corner entry so adjusted the force feedback sensitivity down to 8 (usually have them all on 10 for drifting).

I kept restarting instead of carrying on after each full lap so I couldn't see the delta and I didn't have any ghosts on so was just me, the car and the track.

On my last stint I started with a red lap after running wide at the Esses / Maison Blanche but because it was a 1:19.6xx I carried on and I'm glad I did...

I also completely missed the apex at Porsche Curves so there is more to give but I will leave it at that now it's safe, it's so much nicer to drive on the wheel.

Well I used to use this seat from my old Peugeot

But when we moved house (downsized) I binned it and since then I was using the couch, but with the little piranha (kitten) I set it up in the spare room but currently I don't have a seat so had to use this, which really gets the back muscles going with nothing to lean on...

Bit of a downgrade 🤣

Nooooooo!!!!!
You were the only one beside me on motion control......

Had a bit of a long stint at Le Mans today going into my weekend.

I find it's not too hard to just put down laps here over and over. If only they weren't almost all invalidated. Nevertheless, I did manage some progress but the 4:17 is just within reach.

I was admittedly getting a bit frustrated at the end. I had lost a ton of time at Indianapolis and the last sector on my best lap. So I restarted and did this ...

Invalidated on the last sausage! It would've for sure been a 17 had I made a clean exit on that last turn :banghead:

But I'll probably only keep working on it until the new TT. No real goal here other than having Gold, I just like driving here.

I wish track limits were more consistent. I am having a hard time especially at LeMans knowing how far to push it as the limits seem different corner to corner. Seems like you need to log a lot of laps just learning the track limits...but maybe I am missing something? I am currently 2 seconds off Gold.

Questions about community scoreboards

I've had a request to add age to the community scoreboards.
  • Do you want to see that and are you willing to provide your age?
  • With space at a premium, I'd like to drop DR/SR (it would make space for age, but whether people would like to see age or not; I'd still like to drop DR/SR). Are you okay with this?
Not all 140 'registered' people will respond, so I'll go with a majority view of those who do respond by say end of Sunday this week. If you feel strongly about a point, let me know.

I am 52 and not interested in keep it secret.
Nonetheless I don't see how this info may enrich the great data you already provide.
I'm also not expecting that each row will have its age, so again, I don't see the point of it.

@half_sourly

I fully support dropping the DR/SR. It's largely irrelevant because people may not participate in sport races so it's not particularly indicative of skill if a user has a low DR.

While I don't mind sharing my age (currently 35), I don't think it's particularly useful including it on the leaderboard as it's pretty full with how popular its become. After being in this thread for some time now, it's clear age doesn't necessarily correlate to ability. There's plenty of fast people at any age it seems.

I second this message 100% and want only add that my age changes faster than my DR/SR rating. Personally I would be more interested to see how many (or few) laps it took to reach that result. But that is not noted anywhere...

And as always I thank you for your effort to keep us in fire!

I don't think either are indicative of anything, skill wise - so I wouldn't include either.

The only thing I would like to see included somewhere (if possible) is car position in Gr. events - for example I might be 750th overall, but I might be the 1st Hyundai on the board, or I might be 300th overall but I'm the 295th Mazda3.
Would be interesting to see, and it might give incentive for people to drop outside their comfort zone to try and put themselves as the top dog of an unusual car.

I'm ok with age reveal. Also, the DR/SR is not important to me right now because I don't do Sport. Maybe in the future.

As a fellow member mentioned, is there a way to know how much time a player put into the TT? Or distance driven, nunber of laps? I wonder if that data would be relevant to get a even more detailed profile of the participants.

PS: I believe my Bugatti Gr4 has something near 2000kms. Which equals.... What? 23 laps at LeMans?😂

On the other hand the Evo IX of mine has over 1000kms as well but most of them I spent improving the gold time, while with the Bug it took me a little bit longer to get into the yellow territory.

It makes think I drive better with a nimble, throwable into corners road car than a heavy grip Gr4 car like the Bugatti.

Fine by me. Driver rating is not relevant to me as i don't do online racing as a lot of others that do TT here.

Is number of laps even scrapable data?
No, it's not. Only the fastest lap per player is recorded (and the timestamp when it was done). Regarding age: I don't mind, it's certainly more interesting than DR / SR. I'm 45.

While we're on the subject of ... things ... :D

Just 15 hundredths of an improvement, but significant to me for three reasons:
  1. I finally got to save a replay (shared in game and see below) 🥳
  2. It gives me a little bit of breathing room, as @luckii95, @D-Mind and others are getting dangerously close :)
  3. Most importantly, it didn't feel like a fluke this time. It was my first session since Saturday, and I was immediately on pace. Of the 5 completed and valid laps, the worst was a 4:19.0. Everything felt very methodical and reproducible. I liked that feeling a lot ;)

That's disappointingly expected. Woulda' been entertaining to read the pokes and prods from the folks in this thread regarding who got what in how many laps. It's been my experience the Resident Aliens

1710283770712.png

that hang around here, and I'm including all ya'll that get under that 2% mark as Residents, can find the limits of cars on tracks much quicker, and the constitution to chase thousandths, than us homonids native to planet earth. So, having that lap data as another metric may just serve to enforce the inferiority syndrome and have a detrimental effect on the earthlings hereabouts.

Either way, I'm on my 61st lap around Sol.

I know what you mean. It always amazes me how someone like @Tidgney can not only set a time that is good enough for the top 10 in the first couple of hours of a new TT and produce a lap guide video for it, but he also does that while having to figure out the optimal lines, shifting and braking points by himself. I've gotten quite alright at replicating what someone else did, but that's just craft. What these guys do is art.

So much, this. It's why most of my first stints are without reference. Even though I can't do what they do right now, maybe some day I will.

It's a good test to see how your own skills are developing. When I first started, it would take me the entire two weeks to get Gold. Now maybe 1 or 2 stints. If I spend the entire two weeks, I come achingly close to a Top 100 time. It stands to reason, if I continue to improve my skills, I might be setting Top 100 times in 1 or 2 stints.

Knowing how much time and effort it must take to get to that skill level makes it all the more impressive.

By all means, take as much info as you want 😁, dropping the DR seems logical, my ratings have stopped when I cleared the 50 needed for the trophy....🤣🤣

I asume you will be entering those stats by year of birth?, or do we just message you when we have survived another year! 😁🤣, dont know what would be the easiest for you?

41 and from ' 82

Your experience seems to mimic mine or vice versa most times. I'm right on the cusp of a top 500 nearly every TT lately, depending on the time I have or choose to put in, with a couple even better than that. I can't fathom how some of the fastest get where they are. Not yet anyway. It took me a while to fathom a gold so I guess the progression is there, if not a little slow. 😂🍻🍻🍻

@half_sourly I'm 45 and think SR/DR in this game is a sham anyway so if age helps your data I'm all for it. Dob is a day in 1978. 👍
