Ive done 260 miles in my kart, and I cant oil change, engine rebuild. nothing :?
Im done to 32.8 tranny adjusted for a max speed of 69mph, although I only reach 66 @ most

Doesn't seem like he's cheating to me... he's getting the acceleration by adjusting his transmission like the rest of us (or so it seems to me). It's still slightly faster than me but I have a 22hp cart he likely has a 24 hp cart. I also don't think his top speed passes about 61 or 62. There's also the fact that he is skilled enough to only brake the first and second turn basically...
Only thing that bugs me is that another spaniard is second, with a very similar time.
Also, if someone could share a 24hp cart with me I'd really appreciate it.
EDIT: To anyone aspiring to beat the first place guy: It is possible to take the first turn sharper than him, which might give you a teeny little advantage up to that point. Nothing significant, but it might help (you gotta be careful if you take it sharper though because it's really easy to spin out, and even if you don't spin out it's really easy to lose grip and therefore speed. I have managed to slide through it successfully once or twice). After the turn he accelerates faster than me and leaves me behind so I know nothing about the following turns.

I registered here solely out of annoyance over that Kart Space challenge. I have not done any kart racing in GT5 before but I thought that would be a nice challenge when everyone is on the same hardware with only a few settings to make (I dont have time to sit around fiddeling with settings to be able to compete). I got down to a 33.6 with a brand new kart and then checked the replay of number 1.
Dude, he´s doing 95 kmh where I'm doing 87 kmh and if I increase speed I wash out no matter how tight I am with the throttle. If theres no kind of cheating I would like to meet this person as he could teach me a thing or two about going fast (I used to be a pro motorcycle racer IRL btw)
Gearing has nothing to do with doing 95 steady state cornering where 87´s possible, theres something else going on

Is it possible for them to be using a ballast in order to get more grip (and therefore corner better?). It would slow them down but they don't seem to be super fast - they just have insane cornering.
On another note, someone got a 31 so it is seeming more and more likely that they are legit, in which case props to them.

I wonder are we all (except top 3) using identical karts, and the power is just calculated differantly in differant regions

I noticed something while watching the replay of the accused cheaters... Their engine´s missfire in mid corner sometimes
So what I did was to add all the ballast I could to the rear of the car and guess what, I got that missfire sound. So it has something to do with ballast I guess
When it comes to real physics (yes this is a game I know), adding weight increases the pressure on the tires giving them more grip, BUT, the coefficent of friction from the tires decreases with added weight so that the more weight you put on a tire the less it increases in grip. The added weight also increases the sideway forces so the end result is that you can´t take the corner at the same speed. Downforce works magic because it adds "weight" felt by the tires but it does not add weight to the sideway forces. The reason why you lean outwards in a gokart in real life is not to increase grip on the outer wheels (because inner grip decreases and its the total of all wheels that is important to reach maximum corner speed), but to lift the inner rear wheel so that it can spin freely (because theres no differential on a gokart)
So what they are doing is simply some kind of bug

Just tried the 24hp kart (thanks turismo-lester:tup, not a massive differance between it and the 21hp I was using.
Kind of have to re-learn the braking and turn-in points on the track but quickly took another tenth off my previous best. Down to 32.7xx can see another tenth soon
