Toffe - you're right I took an early pit stop for mediums lap 10. I worked out that the hard compound tyre would go 10-11 laps then I would be into the 1.25's, were as mediums would give 15+ laps and still be getting 1.25's (as it turned out I was getting 1.24 at the end, lower fuel helps I guess).

That strategy also helped me get by R35's car which unluckily was lagging quite a lot, contacted with him twice on the first lap, car damaged both times.

Also dropped all by myself chasing Seb which put me back into another fight with R35  this time kept a bit of a gap then caught up right to his bumper just before I pitted.

Came out of the pits in 7th, caught up to Seb and we must have gone passed another car in the pits as we moved up a place.

Lap 13 I Got a tow on Seb after coming out of the tunnel and down the straight and went by for 5th place.

Lap 14 overtook several cars while they were in the pits and to my surprise jumped to 2nd! About a lap later the timings showed I was about 8's behind the leader then next lap about 4-5s, thought I might be able to challenge Toffe for a while but the times stabalized then grew. Thought he might have gone for a later pitstop so would be on fresher tyres so no chance of catching him.

Well pleased with 2nd :) Big thanks to Steg again and all the guys for having to wait 👍 Also well done again Toffe, great win:tup:

Thanks. Great work gaining all those places jonzster 👍 You really chose a great strategy there, you took 5-6 places with that strategy and almost caught me too! When I came out of the pits, I almost thought something had screwed up with the timing or something, at first I couldn't understand how the 17 sec. lead I had could have just gone away like that. It was especially surprising since you were in 5-7th place before! My expression when exiting the pits::eek:

I also knew that hards would give about 1'25's when worn, but I hadn't made any serious test run on the mediums (only myself to blame there) so I was unsure of how long they would last, therefore I didn't dare to change to them too early. In addition I thought that everyone would use about the same strategy. I was wrong  I will study that strategy closely for next race :) Lesson learned: one can loose lots of time by racing on hards for too long.

I drive badly? :/

I didn't experience any trouble when racing close to you, at least not in the two last races of last season, Monaco and Nordschleife. Like, when I passed you in Rascasse in Monaco, you were observant and hardly no contact was made, despite being really tight 👍 However for some reason you have been lagging like **** in the pre-season race and the first race at Trail Mountain. You never lagged earlier, I have no idea why. More people seem to have connection issues after spec 2.0 to be honest...

Now that I think of it, looking at how much time jonszter gained with a different strategy, strategy planning is probably going to play a bigger part in the future races that I initially thought. If one makes the stop too early it might get hard in the end and one might come out behind slower cars. However, staying too long on hards will make one loose time too. You really nailed the rules for this season Steg! 👍 And yay this is my 200th post :D

Oh dear what have I said, now you'll be even harder to catch  Seriously though thanks mate, I was just as surprised as you that it worked that well TBH.
I remembered what happened at Monaco when you put fresh tyres on, although a slightly different scenario it's all about being on the right tyre at the right time. Think Seb also chose the same strategy and was only a couple of seconds behind me.
Agree Steg's done a great job setting up this championship, the tyre thing just adds to it 👍

Yeah never saw R35 lagging last season.. infact Haigis used to be the one but thankfuly he was absolutely fine in this race.
Must admit I seem to be having some issues since spec 2.0, I've not had problems before.
When we were qualifying the first time round in Steg's I lost tyre sound fx again - like in the pre-season race, however when I eventually did get into Seb's lounge it was working again.. wierd.

PS @ Steg - did I get the Spirit of GTRC award? :)

Yeah, I also thought of Monaco, even if the scenario was a little different, fresh tyres can make such a big difference. And now it's even different compounds (medium/hard) which makes the difference even bigger :) Going to start practice on Grand Valley today. Haven't raced on that circuit much in GT5 yet to be honest, but I love it, going to be great to race there 👍 It's really a classic Gran Turismo circuit.

Will start practice tonight on Grand Valley, I've not raced much on that track either, only A-Spec races if I'm honest, dunno why really.. I really like the circuit.

The season opener race replay is done.. enjoy :)
Poor old Haigis at the start got well 'n truly clobbered :( We really could do with testing connections at Loskey's if he's going to be hosting the next race.

Cheers for the video Jonzster showed I did have race pace if I hadnt been clobbered by poor Skylines lag

Wasn't happy with the lagging myself but can't blame anyone for it. Also I don't understand the way the qualifying works sometimes. I started first but I was no where near fast enough. Hope polyphony digital are able to fix this problem in a later update.

Yup the joys of PD's online philosophy :banghead:

Very nice work jonzster. Nice graphics in the end with the race classification, looks very much F1 which is cool :) Very nice work covering the different battles no matter where in the field they took place 👍 There were so many good battles in this race and it was very entertaining to watch in the race replay. :tup:Just as I thought, Sicwhitt and jamesy had a great battle in the beginning for instance. By the way, I noticed your paddock was basically more like in the entrance of the pits when you made your pit stop jonzster, sometimes GT5 can do the weirdest things  It was those 3 important laps after that your pit stop and your overtake of sebastian that made you gain so much time on me and end up in 2nd. Nice work of sebastian too to utilize that strategy too. 👍

In the replay it also became quite clear that the connection issues needs to be resolved in some way.. If it can not be fixed, I think one should reconsider if it's wise to race with heavy damage in Fuji etc.

Cheers Toffe. Really enjoyed Sic & jamesy's fight - great clean racing. Yeah my paddock was in a weird place, TBH I thought.. wth is going on? but it was all good
What helped make my mind up to pit early was having R35 in front plus I could see we were coming up to some more cars. It was also fortunate of me to come out to a clear track.
Agree if we're going to using heavy damage on some races everything needs to be running smoothly, if it was last Wednesday it would have been a disaster.

Laptimes from my first attempt on Grand Valley:

Hard: 1'50.774
Medium: 1'48.529

However there's probably a lot that can be cut off from those times, especially on mediums.

Within the first lap, divebombed by Skyline and took me out completely. From the hour waiting, couldn't be arsed racing alone for an hour at the back.

Also, sorry guys but im pulling out. Really dislike driving the TVR, it's probably just me, but after last weeks pre-season it feels nothing like it used to.

Goodluck for the rest of the season. 👍

May have missed this but who's replacing Joshua1994? They need to sort out a team name as well, they are the only ones with out one.

I had a quick go last night and got roughly the same times but like you say, there is a bit more time to come off of that.

Well I think im going to need a new team mate too not heard nothing from GrandDriver and last race he was playing BF3 :nervous:
