What's the bets 'Lee' Clarkson put the Hamster up to the Scandinavian Flip ?
He took his turn last & he'd mentioned the bit about it being mid-engined so, as PR siad, Clarkson egged Hammond the excitable on knowing full well the dangers of entering the hammerhead in a high-centred g light skinny.
I can hear him off-cam; "Mid-engined? you could give it a scandinavian flip round about where James is now&

I bet it was all in the script. They probably had a medical crew on the side. You could tell they didn't really care who won the challenge, but more about the entertainment.

Im quite sure that he said scandanavian "flick" as in of the wrists, to get that tail out a little bit, not "flip" as in, flip the van....

He did say Scandanavian flick, a term used to describe turning the car in the opposite direction of a corner before turning into the corner using the momentum to swing the tail out.

Anyone go to the London motor show?
They had the top gear car/boat thingys there. Their bigger than they look on TV, got some pics if anyone wants to see.

Couldn't get a good pic of hamsters boats interior:grumpy:

James May's mast was HUGE, looks crazy on such a small car lol.

I bet the next season will have a new big and long race, but I want to see the next season in HD as well. Also the 8th October is my birthday.

I may be very, very late to the party with the show but I just watched the last 3 episodes of season 8 (thru the new dsl line here) and those production challenges are really entertaining to watch!! It is quite apparent that each got bits of scripted elements (the stig apprehended by road patrol, use of 'illegal immigrants' and britain's most useless carjacker) and controlled happenings (both the 'scandinavian flip' and the oven/van fire), but the production team made all of those films great to watch. Especially for the caravan trip. :D

Glad to see Ford making a new version of the Transit, even if it never comes to America. :dopey:

No way. The last races have used a Veyron, Scaglietti, DB9, SLR....

Thay can't do one in a lowly XK can they?

Granted theres a slight difference in value between the XK-R and the Veyron, but the races are really nothing more than glorified road tests so it's not out of the question and the XK is a really nice car so I wouldn't mind it. That said I do think theres other cars that are more likely to get the big race spot than the XK-R, it is generally reserved for the most special car of the series.

Richard Hammond has been injured in a crash while filming the new series of Top Gear

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/5365676.stm

BBC News
Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in a jet-powered car while filming for the programme.

The presenter, 36, was taken by air ambulance to a Leeds hospital which has a special neurological unit.

A North Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said he was unconscious when they got to the scene but was regaining consciousness at the hospital.

A BBC spokesman confirmed the presenter had been injured during a shoot.

Not much detail at present but my thoughts are with him for a quick and full recovery.

Sky News is reporting that he was doing 280mph, trying to break the land speed record.. which on Elvington would be beyond insane. The BBC aren't making any such claims though. I suspect that Sky News is behaving like a typical tabloid.

WOW, not the Hamster.

I hope to god he's ok. He's a good presenter, and seems like a cool genuine dude, so I hope he pulls through with no problems.

Get Well Soon, Hamster

I hope he pulls through, a jet propeled car eh? So if he's been taken to a neurological unit that means he must have a pretty bad head injury?

<xZeddx> He was severely injured in a car crash while filming for Top Gear on September 20, 2006 at an airfield near York. He was driving a jet powered car travelling at 280mph in an attempt to break the land speed record for England. He is being treated at Leeds General Infirmary and is currently in a critical condition. [2] News reports claim that 2 members of the production crew saw him walk from the crash site to the air ambulance

From Sky News

Sky News
Richard Hammond, one of the presenters of TV's Top Gear programme, is reportedly in critical condition following a car crash.

Mr Hammond was hurt while filming an edition of the show and taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

He was reportedly trying to set a new land speed record for England in a jet-powered Vampire car when it overturned.

Mr Hammond was said to have been reaching speeds of up to 280mph as the accident happened.

Firefighter Dave Ogden, who witnessed the crash, told Sky News that the 36-year-old presenter was able to speak as he was taken out of the wreckage of the car.

Inspector Mike Thompson, of North Yorkshire Police, said officers were dealing with the incident at the airfield northeast of York where the filming was taking place.

He said: "At 5.45pm this evening we received a report via the fire service of a male person trapped in what was described as an overturned jet car which had been driven on the airfield.

"The male occupant has received serious injuries and has been airlifted to hospital at Leeds."

A spokeswoman for the BBC, which produces Top Gear, said: "The incident happened quite recently and the focus of our attention is on Richard at this stage."

Mr Hammond, who lives near Cheltenham with his wife Amanda and their two daughters, has also presented Sky's Brainiac and shows including Time Commanders and Petrolheads.
