I agree. I have to wonder though. Why did they stop with grid start and began to use rolling starts? I really hate that..

Because grid starts only exacerbate the graphical issues.

If you have a grid start you have the entire field packed into almost the smallest possible visual range. With a single file rolling start the cars are much more spread out. Without it you see frame dips until the cars spread out a bit.

Like many things in GT, it's a clever solution to a problem that shouldn't have existed.

Two reasons, as I understand it:

1. GT5/GT6 do not have the rock-solid 60fps frame rate of the PS2 (and even PSP) iterations of GT. To try and make this less obvious, beginning the race with a rolling start puts fewer cars on screen at once to minimise frame-rate issues and screen tearing that comes with them.
2. The AI, although better in GT5 than its predecessors, was not great, and to prevent races from being laughably easy (and overtaking the majority of the field in the first turn), the race structure was designed to make overtaking harder.

Sadly, with those two problems in place, they kind of designed themselves into a corner with GT6. Performance was no better, and with no more resources given to AI (in terms of hardware, but perhaps also in terms of money/time spent fixing the AI), it seems Polyphony fudged it a bit by turning them into even more ludicrously spaced out starts.

Remember as well that GT4 had rolling starts on some tracks, again, perhaps an AI thing (as the AI was not exactly stellar in GT4, and you often ended up overtaking most of the field in the first few turns in grid start races, except perhaps for the top two cars).

Isn't multiscreen already supported? I guess you mean multiscreen support without having several systems, but still..?

Oh yes, GT5 and GT6 support multi-screen.

And no, I don't expect one PS4 to be able to support more than one screen.

I'm just addicted to multi-screen, and am sensitive to losing it. Forza dropped it after Forza 4, and it looks like it has gone for good in both Forza 5 and 6, and probably beyond.

So, I'm saying that the ONLY thing that will stop me from buying GT7 or Sport is if they drop multi-screen. Conversely, if they support it, I'm IN!!

The problem, for me, is that I don't have the space for 2 more monitors. Besides that, I think I'd rather spend the money on a VR set. 👍

VR could well be a great alternative. It may even be the only option for a "widescreen" experience with GT on PS4, if PD elects to put all their money on VR.

Until we get our hands (heads) on the VR device, it's hard to even guess at how well it may do the job. The specs at 1920×RGB×1080 (960×RGB×1080 per eye) indicate to me that it has a chance of being great, however, resolution specs are only a part of the equation.

Whereas jumping into triple screens was a relatively safe leap of faith, I'm thinking I'm not about to make the investment in Sony's VR without a "test drive". What do you guys think?

Yeah for sure.. I'd hate to buy something I can't use because of .... :P I'd sure like to test it out first, yeah. Reminds me of the OCZ NiA. I bought one because it looked cool. Being able to control movement and shooting in FPS games with your mind and muscles seemed awesome. I got the hang of it, but I always got a headache when using it for more than five minutes straight. And when I took it off I felt a cooling sensation where the three sensors was. If I knew this before I bought it I wouldn't have bought it.

It's actually quite a conundrum. How do you convince people the tech isn't just another 3DTV mess when you're similarly trying to push it sight unseen?

I don't care for 3D in this PSVR, I just care for the fact you can wear the screen and look around you :P If that made sense. I have a 3D smart TV, but I never use the 3D.

Back to topic of the thread, I forgot to add something.

It would be nice to have full control of the custom transmission upgrade. Mainly, being able to select the number of gears, the shifting method of the gears, the gating of an h-pattern... things like that. To go along with this, the Final Drive gear should be an individual upgrade.

If they can't do this for GT Sport, I hope they can for GT7.

Support of G27.....

I would LOVE this, as that is the wheel I have. Sadly, I don't think it's going to happen. I do know this... I'm not buying another Logitech wheel, after their little stunt.

"We can't update the G25 and G27 for the PS4!"
"We're leaving the market!"
"LOL, JK!!! Here's two brand new wheels, shifter sold separately!"

I think Logitech must have caught on to the fact that was a rubbish decision, as major retailers here are now selling the G29 cheaper brand new, shifter included, at a lower price than a second hand G27 just to get them sold, it seems. No-one wanted them, and Logitech have had to slightly awkwardly admit defeat by cutting the price fairly substantially. With that sort of deal, it's harder to say no, especially considering the G27 won't work on PS4.

Support of G27.....

Didn't say that, i said sims can make driving seem harder than it really is (i.e. can't get round a corner in a racing car at 40mph without rear end coming round etc or just bust physics).... I'm not the only one saying this and 2 heads of the biggest most important console games to be on both PC and consoles think the same, i'll not change your view you wont change mine.

The GIMX adapter apparently allows the G27 to work on PS4. Here's @Whistle Snap playing DriveClub...notice no input lag, a common issue with most adapters I've seen:

I've mentioned I would buy GT no matter what.

Booting the game up after playing F6, I shut GT back off and shelved it again.

GT MUST have standing starts and better AI. IT MUST. I don't see how I played the franchise this long and kept my true feelings buried deep. I will not buy another GT if those two aspects are not worked on.

It could be the most realistic looking. BBS wheels could have that Windex shine but, I'll pass if PDI haven't changed the game play.

You R 100% right @05XR8 Polyphony Digital & Sony are really going to have to bring it, when I say "it" I mean AI and Audio and Graphics as far as visible car damage, Because Slightly Mad Studios and Turn10 Studios have set the bar really high, FM6 has a really good physics engine not arcade at all IMO only if you use the game Mods like Boost or extra grip takes away from the realism. My PS3 broke a year ago and I don't even miss GT6 because I play offline a lot, but I do miss the online lobby, GT has a really great online community, with a lot of great and fun drivers. I will buy GT Sport and GT7, but if it isn't up to par It will be my last purchase of the GT series. I am Sooooooo glad I bought an XBOX One and Forza Motorsport 6. Now with the soon to be released Porsche Pack in FM6, I am in Sim Heaven.:D

More tracks is my big thing. I remember playing Need For Speed: Shift and then when Shift 2: Unleashed came out (18 months later), it had TWICE as many tracks. I was in absolute heaven. I played that game every day and yet I still had to re-learn tracks because it had been so long since I'd raced on them. Sure I would have preferred GT's physics, but I absolutely loved that game. Definitely my favorite racing game of all time.

Let me first start by saying that I have been waiting so long for GT 7, that I know it'll be a day one purchase no matter what. That being said, my ideal requirements for GT 7 are not that bizarre and could easily be accomplished:

  • Build upon the physics that are already there and make them better.
  • Better Sounds
  • Better in game graphics
  • Reduce the number of cars until all cars are same quality across the board
  • Include more unique cars (by which I mean cars which do not have a duplicate in game already!)
  • BETTER ONLINE!!
  • Better visual car customization (i.e. Bumpers, splitters, wings, hoods, rims etc. all within reason)
I think all these things listed above are fully to be expected simply with the transition to a new console plus the years it has taken to make the game.

I would be beyond happy to hear that the game got a livery editor, color wheel and other ways to change the aesthetics of the car, but these are not MUST HAVES for me to buy the game I don't think.

Most unnecessary duplicates must be removed (there are 240 of them in GT6) and also the fact that the arcade mode, online and career must be improved, along with several entertainment modes like the museum mode from GT5, etc. Customization should definitely be at least on par with Forza and with comprehensive upgrading and tuning for all cars. Physics, car specs and damage should definitely be realistic as possible while being upgraded as well and the fact that the AI must be balanced, alert and intelligent.

Things that would make a proper AI for Gran Turismo:

1. The AI is balanced, alert of the player's car and driving line and style, in which they can react to it
2. The AI isn't too slow
3. The AI can be a little aggressive, but should not be like drunk zoo animals in a violent stock car race or on a bumper car arena (unlike in Forza)
4. The AI can provide a proper challenge, but isn't too difficult like it would be a struggle to win
5. The AI can have individual behaviors ranging from passive or aggressive drivers

Given the rise of the PS4 Gran Turismo era, a lot of Standards (maybe not all of them) would become premium. Premium graphic quality overall from the exterior and the cockpit as well as premium sound (improved sounds are what everyone who knows Gran Turismo very well wants, and that's a good thing since Polyphony hired Forza's previous audio team's lead engineer, so therefore, a new sound design overall and a symphony of motorsport and real Gran Turismo style.)
