Why top GTA times show no finesse at all?

I haven't tried the demo yet, but it does sound like the same style from prior the Academy is the way to go.

I've always thought it would be better if the Academy did a combination of 3 back to back laps. Combine that with tire wear on and you could potentially see the faster style being closer to real life. It's much harder to be consistent with the sliding approach, and the tires hate it too.

The title pretty much talks for itself.
Top GT Academy players seem to jerk their cars into corners, then slide away. By textbook corner negotiation definition, smoothness at all times, their times should be poor.
The achieved fastest times seem to be a lucky shootout of wild corner entries.

What do you guys think?

These people are cheaters who are good with downshifting and stuff like that. That overtaking challenge with the BRZ; the recordholder person was messy throughout the track. Some people are terrible, dishonest cheaters.

Oh, I agree. The hard work is part of it. Some people don't necessarily have the skill out of the box, but they learn well and quickly, or whatever. A pro driver will probably learn more in half a dozen laps on a new track than I'll learn in a week.

I guess the point is that deep down, somewhere, these people have some skill that makes them more suited to being race drivers than other people. I don't want it to sound like there are people who are naturally great from the word go, because it's not true.

I had a friend that had been playing and studying guitar for eight years. Another friend picked up a guitar as his first instrument, and eclipsed the first's ability within literally two months. Sometimes, that is just the way it is.

I'd rather they fixed the flaw in the physics that allows controlled powersliding to be faster to begin with, but short of that, turning on fast tire wear over a series of laps would be another way to force people to take a more conservative line. However, the fast guys will still be the fast guys, they will find a way to get more out of the car, take it to the edge the perfect balance of tire wear and grip and they'll still win. It's just the way it is. That's why you see the same names in the top 100 and top 10-20 over and over in TT's. Change tires, tracks, cars, fast, slow, snow, rain, dry it doesn't matter. They adapt. They understand the limits of the game and know how to find them.

Agreed on fixing the physics.

But I disagree on who the top drivers would be. We saw a number of guys get knocked out in the early stages of the finals because they weren't consistent over multiple laps. But the guys who would do well in the finals would still be there. This would be a quick way of weeding a few people out and making the finals even tougher. That and I would love longer runs as I'm good with tire wear and consistent laps.

Wow, with FiftyBelowZero and Chris123 around here, I feel so ineloquent. So jealous of the genius genus.

You know when someone in a group try's too hard to be funny, and there's just an awkward silence afterwards cause it had the complete opposite effect, ye one of those moments...

The jealousy is unending. Though my engagement ends now.

Jealousy? Haha ok, ^^ and just because I say it sucks doesn't mean I dont enjoy playing it, the sim realism sucks for what it's worth, you cant deny that

These people are cheaters

So salty.

So you're upset that you're not the fastest, therefore anyone who is faster than you must be cheating?

Those guys are going to be faster no matter what situation, physics system or vehicle their driving. Just swallow those bitter pills, you'll get used to the flavor soon enough.

How can you enjoy something that sucks? I do track days/autox with different cars (mostly friends cars, i know i'm lucky), and i do like how the GT physics works and it's ongoing improvements.

Alright maybe sucks is too strong a word for you guys, mediocre then, how's that, it's fun too play but at the same time it's ridiculous when you go online looking for a serious race, and everyone is powersliding around corners somehow going faster than you when your using proper technique

Jelly.

Sliding is only faster when done within moderation on entry to a sharp corner, otherwise "proper technique" is still the fastest method. If you're being left behind by people that are powersliding everywhere, then you're not driving fast enough.

I find that most of my online successes come from sliding a lot less than everyone else in the room.

All of the online racing I do are 40-50min league races. You have a few guys that slide and are quick for a couple laps, but over the course of a long race they make too many mistakes. They also destroy their tires quicker which usually means I do 1 less stop or they have a few very slow laps at the end of each stint.

The quick 3 lap races don't interest me, partly because there are too many using the sliding technique (excessively) and I just prefer long races/battles. Chasing a equal opponent down over the course of 40min is just a lot more fun.

Lol I beg to differ, I know how fast I am mate, it's a common exploit in the game, you just haven't met anyone good at pulling it of, its not really sliding but more of a slight skid which allows you to take a corner much faster than you could normally

Having obtained top 5 positions in previous seasonal and Academy TT's, I think I understand what constitutes to pulling off a fast lap and what/where sliding can be advantageous. For the most part, it is not.

Yeah I was in the top 10 of my region without sliding, small slip angle for certain corners but nothing like what some guys do.

wow thats great, good for you, doesnt really relate to my point though, i was watching the number 1 lap in the world last night for the silverstone lap, the guy was sliding an aful lot for a game were sliding isnt advantageous, i think i know what im seeing with my own two eyes and am likely to take that over your supposedly top 5 ranking

You say it's not advantageous but he's number 1 so....

And our friend here Lewis has acquired top 10/top 5 quite a few times! He's a fast guy. Could never reach his times whenever I tried.

oh jeez, this is just getting worse by the minute, you didnt happen to see it was in reply to lewis did ya, but nvm rant over, its been fun

video game =/= real life is the real answer....

no matter how "close" Polyphony tries to get its still a simulation, and without a supercomputer and an unlimited budget you're never going to get there...$200 piece of hardware + $60 software...

I did. What are you on about? Hoping for an answer despite the "rant" being over. Kind of confused.

"Powersliding around corners": That kind of hyperbole is a dead giveaway to me.

By the way, good luck with your ongoing quest to get to 4.

Rules are set by PD so if anything we should complain about that. If they didn't want people sliding around corners they could set simple rule: tyre indicator does red = disqualified.

Schumacher. Jordan. Which immediately became Schumacher/Benetton.

Granted machschnel is still wrong, because all the money in the world won't get you that far without talent; and regardless of the inherent publicity stunt-ness of GT Academy it's not throwing out a bunch of Ides into the world.

Poor Ide was F Nippon vice champion before he joined Super Aguri.

Yes, he was the worst F1 driver for years, only 2nd to Taki Inoue, but at Lemans you will see drivers much worse than him ;)

Edit: Funny fact, Duval, Lotterer and Tréluyer -all 24h LeMans winners- are F Nippon champs.
