Is there any rule against switching cars mid season? If so I'd consider switching to the Impreza or even the Escort Cosworth.

That run was bittersweet, swapped to the Impreza and had some really good pace but a small mistake and a puncture at the end of stage 4 ruined me. Over the next two stages I dropped about 2 minutes with that puncture as I didn't have a spare for some reason and a damaged radiator nearly cooked my engine. Repaired as much as I could and pushed like hell at the end to claw back what time I could.

Really happy with my run. 👍 One Spin on SS2 was the only major mistake I made.

I'm a long way back in dead last after a truly disastrous run where pretty much everything went wrong.

After both DNFs on Portugal and Corsica, I really enjoyed New Zealand! These wide and fast rallies are definitely my cup of tea. Hope I can hold the P2 or podium finish at least! RDA was close but unreachable, well raced.

18 seconds is virtually nothing over an hours worth of driving. GG :cheers:

It's nice to make it to the end of one of these again! Not a perfect run and I was a bit rusty for the first few stages (I've barely played since EA released the untested update) but things got better as it went on, until I binned it for a second puncture on the final stage. New Zealand is a great fun rally when you get into a decent rhythm though.

Rally New Zealand is complete, a strong rally with plenty of finishers, a car cry from Corsica. @RYAN took the win, going back to back after winning in Corsica, showing the Ford is fast on any surface. @galahad took a strong P2 after back to back DNFs, helping guide Subaru to a strong result. Backed up by @space_wadet who guided his Subaru to final podium spot.
@Hasnain282 scored important points for Toyota as well, with @GOTMAXPOWER the highest finishing Mitsubishi runner in 9th. @Speedster502 managing 7th place in his quest to fight for the championship.

The real 1995 New Zealand rally was another Colin McRae masterclass, after just 1 podium in the first 4 events, he needed a big result and after dominating this rally in 1993 and 1994, it was his for the taking, and he duly took his first win of the season, by 44 seconds over Didier Auriol. It wasn't all perfect for Subaru, with Carlos Sainz missing the event through injury, Richard Burns and Possum Bourne were in to back up McRae. Burns retired after damaging his radiator prior to a water splash which killed his car whilst Possum Bourne split the Fords in 7th.
The Toyotas struggled as the longer ST205 couldn't cope as well with the switchback roads, but still managed 2nd 3rd and 4th. Whilst Tommi Makinen, who was leading after Day 1, crashed on SS10 after marking a corner incorrectly.

Welcome everyone to the 8th Telstra Rally Australia. After the high speed roads of New Zealand, we stay down under for the tighter and rougher roads of South West Australia. Expect the gravel to be rough, with unforgiving junctions, big jumps and some fast, forest sections tying it together.
The forecast is mostly dry, but due to the springtime nature of the rally, there may be damp areas and stages.

Itinerary:
Day 1:
Shakedown
Morning Service
SS1: Marrinup - 8.7km
SS2: Harvey Weir - 7.7km
Lunchtime Service
SS3: Harvey Weir 2 - 7.7km
SS4: Marrinup 2 - 8.7km

Overnight Service
Day 2
SS5: Bunnings East - 9.1km
SS6: Brunswick - 14.6km
Lunchtime Service
SS7: Bunnings East 2 - 9.1km
SS8: Brunswick 2 - 14.6km

Overnight Service
Day 3
SS9: Muresk - 6.3km
SS10: Muresk 2 - 6.3km

Marrinup = Kebun Raya Solok
Harvey Weir = Loeboekmalaka
Bunnings East = Gunung Tujuh
Brunswick = Sungai Kunit
Muresk = Moearaikoer

Happy I could salvage a podium spot after the big time loss on S6 due to dead tires. But it meant I had new tires for a recovery on the last 4 stages which was fun.

Yeah, phenomenal drive on the fresh tyres. P9 after SS6 overall, immense push, 3 stage wins in those last 4 as well.

Glad I got to the end of that one and somehow remained in the points. A great little battle with @MagpieRacer though!

I have a little more time this week to tackle this round so may need to put some work in to get hooked up on gravel a little more. As @RYAN has proved, the Escort can be quick on gravel...so I'm clearly doing something wrong 😂

Thanks :D I did practice a bit more than usual, but at least I kept it clean. I'll be sure to read the race director's event notes more closely from now on however. :lol:

I haven't driven the Escort since the prologue but I found fiddling with the diff settings helps a lot with these group A cars.

I was completely stock on NZ. I made a few changes at Corsica as the game always sets cars too high for tarmac Etc.

Interesting, I've ran completely standard tunes all season and felt fairly confident with the car on tarmac and snow. Just not gravel evidently.

Might have to do some sneaky pre-event testing 😂

I feel like I would be faster on gravel with the Impreza but that's just down to the Escorts 7spd gearbox. It's great for Tarmac but a hindrance on gravel. That's the only thing that seems off to me on gravel for the Escort. The tendancy to understeer for me was fine on NZ as its so highspeed that's sort of what I'd want for safety's sake. Maybe not the fastest in the slower bits but atleast it gives confidence at speed.

What's annoying looking at this is because I lost 2 minutes to a puncture is have gained 7 places without that

Yeah, I think I tend to lean towards a slightly more oversteer orientated car on gravel so the natural understeer just gives me a lack of confidence. I think that's why I felt so comfortable with the car in Sweden, the super high grip meant I could throw the car around a bit more. That's probably the last time I felt "quick" on a loose surface anyway.

Normally I'd want some oversteer too, To aide flicking around hairpins and to have a faster change of direction. The safety and forgiveness of the slight understeer in the stock setup is why I preferred it. If I was doing TT's with unlimited attempts then I would prefer the most direct, alive and responsive handling possible but that's not my preference for a long club event when no mistakes can be made. Like Petter says to Oliver "Give yourself some margin for error" :lol:

That's true actually, the understeer does give a certain room for error...maybe I've just got to get good :lol:

Gutted, was cruising in the second stage. Thought I was up there then totally misses the final turn and lost a heap of time and a 20 second penalty to boot. Still time to recover.

Shame about all the people who can't read using Delta's in the club.

@Speedster502 I take it back, The Cossie is an understeering mess. Oceania isn't much fun 😁
