Nice pic ManiacRS!

I'm running late at work tonight, so I won't be on until later to set up a practice room. Thinking maybe 23:00-ish EDT... Sorry about the short notice

Unfortunately, I ran into a bit of trouble too. I'll try to have a room up tomorrow unless Ruta does.

Yeah, I'll definitely have one up tomorrow. Late night in lab (my work) plus it being my fiancé's night off meant no GT5 time for me till 1am. My initial lap times using the tune from Daytona Road Course are giving me low 1:59's. Tomorrow evening I'll be trying to find a setup to be faster than that.

I'm going to be playing with my viper tonight for a test and tune. Prolly around 1900 EDT, I'll post a room number when I'm up for anyone that's interested.

edit: eh I went out to dinner.

I've got my times down to a 56.5xx. Could tweak some more for faster time, car is still a little twitchy. My most troublesome section is the uphill slalom, take it either to fast or not fast enough and lose time. Any tips?

I'm going to make a room, stand by for number

Looks like Watson has a room up too. Are there people in your room? If so I'll go over there.

Sorry to hear that. :( Sometime down the road (hopefully sooner than later) when Exorcet and I have the time, we'll probably do a spec Viper series again. Right now I'm looking into the specs of the various Hennessey Performance Engineering builds to see if a Viper SRT10 Venom series would be doable, or if it would be better to stick to the ACR-X specs. It was nice practicing with you last night, though, and I'm glad you came out for the practice session!

imfaster62, I added you to the registration list.

I'll have a practice room up for a bit. 1472-6118-4259-7714-0514 title "GTP ViperACR Testing"

I'm doing this race with the h-pattern shifter on my G27. :sly:

Never mind. Keep missing gears, doesn't really help your speed...

oh but that would be so authentic.
these cars are supposed to have 3 pedals and no abs. ;)

Aw, at first I thought that it was problem with the host. But I guess it's me because my wireless internet still doesn't work. Was fun though...fought my way up to 4th and battling for 3rd (would have been a good battle too!) Not bad considering I had just bought the car before we started and tuned when I entered the room, really. Hah.

And at blown540ci (fingersandthumbs), I don't know if you got my PSN message. Since it all died, I'm guessing not. So I will apologize again for tapping you those two times in the first corner, I really didn't mean to. That's not how I race... And I didn't escape unscathed either. I had a broken suspension on that corner. So, my apologies again, it was my judgement error.

Nice race today! I was glad to see more people made it out for this one. I'll have the replay up soon - right now my internet connection has bombed on me for some reason. Next week, due to popular demand, is Nürburgring 24 Hours! We'll be doing 8 laps there.

Nice racing again .

Man that Viper has wwwaaayyy too much under steer for my liking .I really struggled for grip round this track also . But i enjoyed it all the same.

Hey no worries man , It was a one off and i could see the draft may have caught you out going into the first corner , It caught me out a couple of laps later myself .

Hopefully i will have the time this week to actually try the car out on the track before the race.

Well...thank you for that. It wasn't even so much the draft because drafting barely worked for me haha. I just misjudged when to brake for that corner, obviously that you were going to brake later. Oh well, next time I'll do better... Thanks again.

It is an understeery kind of car. Mine got better on the longer run. I will get to run a practice thankfully rather than just jump in this week. And maybe even break in my car a bit. Haha. I don't know about the 8 laps at Nurb 24hr though, that'll probably take over an hour. Seems long, considering how long Grand Valley was. Though I'd still do it, it just requires some more stops too!

First of all,

I'm sorry I didn't post earlier but it's been a bit hectic for me lately... Too many things to do and too little time...

Race Report:

I managed to get a 1:53.1 in qualifying with which I was very content considering I utterly HATE this track...;) However... It seems to hate me back...:guilty: Because I get onto the starting grid and I am 6th... As TnjF informed later the game doesn't store your qualifying time if you exit the track. Which kind of defeats the point of having a qualifying session. We might as well have a superpole system going... Anyway...

There were some delays at the start, fortunately nothing to do with bad driver behaviour... Finally we got the parade lap under way, which went relatively smoothly... I managed to get a few spots back with some late braking for the 2 right hairpins, T2 and T5... At the end of the first lap, I was already 3rd, chasing R1600Turbo and TnjF...

It wasn't very easy to catch up but they had a battle amongst themselves for a couple of laps which slowed them down a bit and I caught up to TnjF... And then our battle started which allowed R1600Turbo to pull away... I was slightly faster it seemed but not fast enough to go by... I managed to pass while slipstreaming down the S/F straight, but then I was too ambitious under braking and I ended up in the gravel. So all the effort I had put in was wasted... I managed to claw back some time from TnjF and in lap 7 I was quite close to him when, suddenly, he pulled in to the pits. He had opted for a 2 stop strategy to avoid driving the heavy Viper on worn rubber. I stayed out and inherited 2nd with a healthy gap back to 3rd... And a long way away from 1st...

From that point the race was as I had anticipated with the tyres getting really worn after the 8th lap and my laptimes increasing. LongbowX started catching me but at a very slow pace so I decided not to push anymore and risk a mistake. Lap 10 and I come into the pits for my tyre change in 2nd. After the stop I did a couple of laps in qualifying pace to clear away from LongbowX and then settled into a rythm around the mid 54s... But with 4 laps to go I made a stupid error in the final corner and damaged the left rear of the car... Exorcet started reeling me in... But TnjF had done his second stop and was pushing like crazy on fresh rubber... Exorcet had to defend against TnjF, and he did so succesfully for a couple of laps... But then TnjF went through and set his sights for me... Ultimately I managed to get 2nd with TnjF something like 2-3sec behind me... If Exorcet hadn't defended as well, I would have lost my place too...

Bottom line, it was a good race, and I'm happy with my performance in this track, considering I do not enjoy driving here.

P.S. In case you're wondering let me explain why I don't like it... It's because it is a racetrack designed to bring out the understeer in any car... There are many examples of this... You need to brake for T2 right before the road goes slightly downhill. Just enough to pull you to the outside and mess your approach to the right hander... And the following double chicane. The right hander becomes more uphill the same time that it becomes tighter, leading to inevidable understeer... This track reminds me a lot of the rubbish...ehhh.... sorry... tracks Herman Tilke designs... Tracks designed to DO something rather than follow the landscape. Which is what Laguna Seca, Spa, Road America, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock, Interlagos, Bathurst, the Nuerburgring Nordschleife and others do... I think you get the point... And anyway, it's a matter of taste really...

RT gets top honor and puts in a smoking hot best lap early in the race.
Maniac Limps his wounded car into 2nd spot with a well done one-stop.
With 2 stop fresh tires I was able to overtake Fingers and Exorcet in the
3rd stint to drive home in 3rd.

Nice racing again .

Hey no worries man , It was a one off and i could see the draft may have caught you out going into the first corner , It caught me out a couple of laps later myself .

You're quite the gentleman. Glad you two are ok, when I watched the replay for photo-ops I noticed way more contact than I would have been happy with. You got bonked in every heavy braking zone for two laps.

I'm not innocent though, I admit I forced the issue trying to get around you in Turn2 when I was on fresh rubber at the end of the race. But no damage and I backed off to let you have your gap back before taking another more cool headed pass later in the lap.

I'm pretty sure it will let you keep your lap as long as you don't hit the setup screen. Which I actually agree with in a Parc Ferme sort of way. Once you touch the setup screen it's no longer the same car so you have to go set another lap again.

But just to be safe do what me and RT did. Pull back into the pits, hit pause and wait for the race to kick off (or go out again with new tires if someone pushes you down the pylon).

Heh, I don't think I made it a whole lap after the pits (in fact, I think I only made it to the tight hairpin), so you definitely pulled away because I wasn't there anymore. And I think I was catching you at more than a fair pace as I couldn't even see you before (I started in last though...), but by the end and in the pits, I was quite close. But of course it also had to do with your gravel journey. But still, I think I was reeling you in a bit. But, you would have likely pulled a little more out with those laps. My car was good on the long runs.

I think we both knew it wasn't intentional. We were just pushing it as hard as we could, so I got a little sloppy, and possibly a little frustrated. As I knew I could get by, I just knew I would have to be close to make it stick. (my fresh Viper was a bit underpowered...) I'm not sure I hit him in every zone...I know I did in the first corner twice. But I don't recall the others. Perhaps not on my screen. But regardless. I think it's just some hard racin'. And I wish I would have had the chance to save the replay as well, I would have taken some shots! Use my photographic skillz (whatever they are. Haha. Perhaps none. Although I do organize + am represented in the GTP Official Calendar when it's done each year. )

Practice room tonight?

If no one else will, I try holding the usual time of 9 PM EST

Yeah, I'm planning on 9PM EDT too.

On a side note, Longbow brought up the 8 laps that was suggested when we did voting on track and laps for this Saturday. Since this is the last race of this series (I think we're planning on doing a second season at some point, but that will be down the road), a mini-enduro at the Ring might be a good way to close things out, but if people would rather we go with a shorter race, like 6 laps, we can do that too.

Also... thoughts for the next season:
- If we stick with the ACR-X, I'd propose switching the stock spoiler for an adjustable spoiler so we can get closer to the correct amount of downforce the ACR-X actually has on the rear.
- I've been looking at the HPE SRT10 Venom 1000 as an interesting option, although I'm personally still leaning towards sticking with the ACR-X.
- I've been considering having an actual championship component to the series instead of it being the more relaxed spec racing this series was, perhaps seeing if season two can be ORB certified when we start it up.

I'm fine with the 8 laps, it just seemed like a good deal longer than the other - so I was wondering why. I'm good with 8, a mini-enduro suits just fine.

And that practice is too late for me I think, unfortunately. But I'm fine with practicing on my own.

The ACR-X also has more front downforce. To be honest, I don't like the adjustable wing on the ACR, it just seems to creates more understeer.

This I'm all for.

On a side note I might be late for practice tonight.

I'll be late too. Looking at 9:30. Fiancé is over and has control of the PS3 at the moment.
