It should also be added that various gaming blogs will be live blogging events so that those of us who are currently at jobs where streaming video all day is frowned upon can still keep up to date.

Also, I see that the PSN Store in the US will have daily updates.

http://www.ps3vault.com/us-psn-store-will-be-updated-daily-during-e3-4875

During E3, the US PSN Store will be updated daily, bringing us things from 2nd until the 4th. We don’t know what these things are going to be yet, but you can rest assured that we’ll report on them when they go live, as they go live. That is, if we’re not busy reporting the E3 news itself, that is. We’ll get it to you though, don’t worry.

1:00 PM - 4:30 PM ET ..can someone confirm what that does in GMT. (it's enough if you just say how many hours still... I'll di the calculations then :) )

edit,

nevermind. It seems to be now 10:54 am ET  ...so 1 hour to go.

Yeah, you still have two hours left to go.

If you are interested in the Microsoft conference at 1:30 ET they bumped up the start time by five minutes for some big announcement.

EST = GMT (-4)

E3 is in California (PST), so in terms of the local time there, PST = GMT (-7)

In other words...

10:00AM - 1:30PM PST (E3's local time)
1:00PM - 4:30PM EST
5:00PM - 8:30PM GMT

Hope that helps. 👍

Even though I have no interest in microsoft I figure I will watch the conference today just to see what it is all about. Then can look forward to tomorrows conference

A very good site to watch E3 Top Games live.

http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=content_nav;live

I agree, Gamespot does a great job with streaming the press conferences and also they have an excellent live schedule on all days where dev's come over and demo some of their games. I have watched the E3 coverage with them for years!

GiantBomb.com is also one to check out for E3 (Jeff Gerstmann and his crew!).

Watching it in home in the podium space will also be neat. :) Pity its not live though.

E3 Comes to PlayStation Home
Posted June 1, 2009 by Locust_Star // PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist

In case you haven’t noticed, the almighty Internets have been abuzz with gossip about E3, PlayStation Home, and where the two will meet. Well I’m here to put the rumors to rest once and for all, and confirm what the community has been whispering about in the corners of Home over the last month.

Here’s the deal: We will be showcasing a special taping of Jack Tretton’s E3 Keynote Address in-world come Tuesday evening. We’ll also be bringing you tons of showroom floor footage, developer interviews, sneak peeks, and other cool vids courtesy of our friends over here at the PlayStation.Blog. All you have to do is head over to the Presentation Podium to watch it on the big screen. This special Events space is accessible via the Menu Pad – just press Start > Locations > World Map then select the PlayStation Home World Map chip and press X. This will break out into several other chips; just scroll over to the Presentation Podium chip, press X, and teleport your self to the party.

This shindig is running for the entirety of E3. That’s right – 3 full days. So whether you’re a morning bird or a night owl, you can come into PlayStation Home and check out this hot footage. We’ll also be giving away limited-time, exclusive virtual items. But you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled and make sure that you are in-world all-day, every day if you want to get them all…

Special virtual items, they say you have to be in all day, every day! I hope thats not technically true because thats slightly nuts. Also does that mean from today?

The Big News?

Project Natal

Kotaku
Project Natal, as Microsoft is calling it at their 2009 E3 press conference, is a camera and sensor assembly that recognizes faces, body movements, objects, and even voices in order to integrate the player into the gaming environment. Examples shown at the conference include a boy holding up a skateboard, which then appeared on the screen, with the boy then riding said board by just swaying back and forth on his own two feet; two women trying on virtual clothes using a camera image of themselves; facial recognition; voice control; buzzing in to 1 VS 100 by raising a hand;and even browsing the NXE using hand controls as in the movie Minority Report.

msft-e3-2009-keynote0460-rm-eng.jpg

The Milo demonstration was very impressive, allowing you to interact with a character in game that will recognize facial expressions, tones in voice, as well as being able to share objects between yourself and the game (the character tossed the girl goggles to put on, which the game recognized... later she drew a picture which she held up to the Natal camera, which was digitized into the game, and shown there as well).

Other bits and pieces:

  • Halo: ODST (a mystery/puzzle + shooting game?)
  • Halo: Reach
  • New COD: Modern Warfare 2 trailer, plus 360-exclusive DLC content
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction exclusivity
  • Crackdown 2 Teaser (YES!!!!)
  • Left 4 Dead 2, 360/PC exclusivity

I don't use Facebook or Twitter, but can someone tell me if they work in the PS3 and or Wii browsers?

It seems like all this individualized integration of Web services is just attempting to make up for their lack of a browser.

I'm not sure about facebook or twitter offhand (though they seem fairly basic so I would assume they would work), but I know for a fact that gmail works well enough for me to check my email, and send mail, when/if I want.

I was home sick and managed to work from home using my PS3's browser by having all my email forward to my Gmail account.

How could you forget the biggest announcements YSSMAN? :P

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/rock-band-beatles-to-feature-harmonizing-vocals/

Joystiq @ps3
The rumors were true! The grand opening of the Microsoft Press Briefing featured a rousing rendition of "Day Tripper," as played by the Harmonix House Band on their upcoming moptopped rhythm title, The Beatles: Rock Band. Said house band featured three singers, who harmonized brilliantly -- the game will apparently keep track of three different singers' performances as they attempt to mimic the band's catchy harmonies. Good luck finding three friends with the guts to pick up the Rock Band mic! They're a rare, rare breed.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/ten-beatles-rock-band-songs-first-downloadable-album-revealed/

Joystiq @ps3
During the big Beatles: Rock Band to-do at Microsoft's E3 keynote, ten of the forty-five newly remastered songs on the disc were announced. Here's what they are:

  • I Saw Her Standing There
  • I Wanna Hold Your Hand
  • I Feel Fine
  • Day Tripper
  • Tax Man
  • I am the Walrus
  • Back in the USSR
  • Octopus's Garden
  • Here Comes the Sun
  • Get Back
"Abbey Road" will be the first downloadable album. Oh, that's right, downloadable albums.

From,
Chris.
Figure I might as well post some news about the game I'll be spending $450 on.

OK... finally watched the entire MS presentation, and I was really very impressed, especially so regarding Project NATAL. 👍

The intro video for Project NATAL was obviously pre-rendered fluff from the graphical and marketing department, and even the "demo" with the CGI character Milo also seemed suspiciously pre-rendered and rehearsed, although that's perfectly understandable.

However, the actual live prototype demos with project director Kuto Tsunoda showing the way NATAL will allow you to log-in using voice and facial recognition, control your avatar's moments, and navigate your XBL dashboard were all very impressive! 👍

The tech demo game, Ricochet (hand/kickball breakout game), that Abigail was playing was also impressive and to me at least proved NATAL was not just dressed up vaporware, but proved to me they were serious about developing this technology. 👍

The Paint Party tech demo that Darren Bennett demonstrated was also very cool. 👍

Finally, the tech demo introduced by Peter Molyneux (founder of Lionhead Studios and lead game designer of Fable 2) with the virtual character Milo. Call me skeptical but his comment about the video being from "a film crew" that had come out to see the demo seemed very misleading. In other words, if the tech demo was truly real-time and not "adjusted" and even partially pre-rendered, then why not show the demo live, like all the other great demos they showed before it. Fake or not, it was still impressive. 👍

I am genuinely excited to see what actually comes out of all of this, especially after Tsunoda mentioned that the development kits for NATAL were being made available today. 👍

I also really liked what they showed regarding integrating Facebook & Twitter into XBL:
  • Friend Linker
  • Profile
  • Photos
  • Status Updates
  • Faceboook Connect (real-time screen shot capture & share)
  • Twitter Integration
Yes, you can use Facebook and Twitter already with the PS3, but the way it's integrated with XBL seemed both logical and convenient. I especially liked the Faceboook Connect feature that will apparently allow you to take a screen shot of any game you are playing and instantly send it to a friend. 👍

I also think it was a very smart move to add Last.FM Internet Radio support as well as Sky TV, and most importantly 1080p video for their Zoom Video service... although from what I can tell, and based on the poor quality (low bit rate) of their 720p video, it is still going to suffer from the same visual compression artifacts.

The tech demo for Live Party where, much like some of the PSN Home spaces, you can interact with your XBL friends via the avatars while simutanously watching movies, TV, or listening to music with friends, looked like it needed a lot more development, but the possibilities seemed promising. 👍

As for the games, MS definitely did what they had to do, and start promoting some exclusives.

They started off though with muli-platform titles:
  • Rockband: The Beatles (PS3, 360, Wii)
  • Tony Hawk: Ride (PS3, 360, Wii)
  • Modern Warfare 2 (PS3, 360)
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360)
Then they hit on their upcoming exclusives:
  • Shadow Complex (XBL)
This looked pretty bad, both in graphics and physics. I've seen much better in PSP game footage, like the new Resistance mobile game.

  • Joy Ride (XBL)
This looked like it could be a fun little arcade game, but again, the graphics that they showed were distractingly poor, especially for a trailer and not an early demo. 👎

  • Crackdown 2
There really wasn't a whole lot to go on, and it wasn't exactly a surprise.

  • Left 4 Dead 2
This had even less of a reveal than Crackdown 2, but L4D was a pretty big hit, so I suspect this will be as well. 👍

  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction
This looked great, and I thought they did a great job demonstrating it live! 👍

  • Forza 3
I had very high hopes for this, but it seems Forza, like so many driving franchises are going farther away from sim, and leaning more and more heavily towards sim-cade. FZ3 seems like it's a cross between FZ2 and PGR4. :odd:

I definitely like the livery editor, and the whole car trading system from FZ2 was always a big plus. 👍

The best thing for this game is that it is very likely coming out well ahead of GT5... which like the 360 to the PS3, was likely done for a very good reason, as a direct day-to-date comparison between the two most likely would not have favored FZ3.

  • Halo 3: ODST
I'm a bad judge for Halo games as I have never really understood their popularity, and this demo seemed just plain dull to me. :indiff:

  • Halo: Reach
I have no idea, they showed very little of it, and discussed it even less.

  • Alan Wake
AWESOME!!!! Great trailer and great live demo. This is likely going to be near the top of my must play list for 2010. 👍👍

Finally there was the big news that Metal Gear Solid: Rising would be making it's way to the 360 (although no mention of any exclusivity, so PS3 fans shouldn't panic). It's extremely unlikely that a PS3 version will be a "port" of the 360 version, if anything it is likely going to be the opposite, although more likely they will be developed independently. This game is likely barely in development so it's likely not even going to get released by 2010... unless it's a stripped down MGS game, and considering the size of MGS4, and the comments from Kojima himself on how MGS4 wasn't even possible on the 360 - it is certainly going to be interesting to see how the game eventually turns out.

Overall I thought MS did a great job, and certainly better than last year. 👍

The only complaint I would have is the lack of release dates for most of the features demonstrated... and the fact that you'll have to be a Gold XBL member, which means paying $50 a year or more outside the US. :indiff:

Rockband: The Beatles (PS3, 360, Wii)

One small correction:
its the other way around, either because its meant to be all about The Beatles or to distinguish itself away from the series, or probably both. More likely its to make it sound less like a simple track pack or the usual GH: Aerosmith/Metallica affair, seeing as a lot more effort has been put into it.

Might as well post this in here aswell,

The MS event really was impressive and it does have me worried that all we are going to see from Sony is what we already know (like the PSP Go). This is what I got from it.

- The Sky Sports integration was impressive although I dont know whether it will be free or not.

- The facebook stuff didnt really interest me but im sure it will interest alot of other people. Its seems like
you can't sell anything now if it doesnt do Facebook!

- Full motion control with your body blew me away, but will this be something dev's have to implement or
will it work with all games by mapping certain movements to buttons?... (you can see how well the later
went down with dev's and the sixaxis!:ill:).

Most dev's are lazy on 'add ons' and, like in game music, it will fail to be a feature if every dev can't be
asked to implement it!

- Voice / face recognition was cool although not unique as they suggested. Its has more use in a family
situation such as when they showed that family playing a quiz with 'invisible' buzzers (clearly a knock at
Buzz which uses those clunky wired accessories).

- That feature which girls in the trailer used to try on clothes was quite cool as it showed total body
movement mapping so when they turned the virtual version of them also turned.

It has so many cool uses especially in something like Home where you would move just like in real life
instead of those cheesy preset movements which always make you look miserable! You could also walk
through home by walking on the spot in your living room!

- Finally the AI vid with that woman and the virtual child, that really was the bombshell at the end. I don't
know how much of what we saw was real but if a virtual character can recognise you, react to whether
you are angry or sad by your voice and interact with you on that kind of level thats way too impressive.

For the first time in a while I was really quite impressed with MS which is rare as most things they do annoy me.. such as windows! :sly:

Sony please please please pull something big out of the hat... you have about 20 hours to do so! Better get the glue and scissors! :scared:

Robin.

I feel I have to be pessimistic about a lot of those features of that MS presentation just because they generally seemed a little too fancy. The full motion thing will never take off with the 360, it will have to be something introduced with a console from the very beginning which makes me wonder whether Microsoft are eyeing the Wii (likely seeing as they copied the Mii's idea). I reckon if they do indeed bring that to the market, it will be a brand new console either alongside a more "hardcore" console or as their next gen.

Voice recognition, advanced AI and so on are all a bit like MS trying to think of as many shiny things as possible to show off in their conference with little actual use with the current market of games. The amount of time to develop such systems to that level of quality means it will never see a decent game for a long, long time. Once again, this seems to be more of a "look at what we can do possibly in future" rather than "look at our awesome releases for this year".

Of course I'd love for MS to prove me wrong, but they seem to do this a lot, I recall similar features like the "amazing" media centre touted for the original XBox which in reality was horrible or the Microsoft Table which I haven't heard anything more about since it was unveiled.

I saw Ms's conference and I didnt see anything other than Forza 3 that would make me buy a 360. I already have on lol. They only have one platform so thats why they kept so many secret titles. All Ms wanted to do was have the best "show".

You make a good point about MS saving everything for this presentation in order to try and win "best in show", and that Sony has in many ways, certainly in terms of games, already surpassed MS in terms of announcements and upcoming exclusives.

However, that's a smart move by MS, especially considering as you say, they only have one hardware to push compared to Sony which has three, PS3, PS2, PSP.

It wasn't bad but still nothing earth shattering or jaw dropping. I dont expect Nintendo to do well for the 3rd year in a row :).

They are to busy printing money. ;)

My surpeize was the bold statements for Forza 3, I just wonder how many discs??

That was pretty bad, especially considering how the footage they showed didn't even match GT5P... yet he seemed quite sure that Forza 3 had the greatest graphics this generation. ;)

As for the number of DVDs, I believe it's already been confirmed that it will be on 2 DVDs.

Not once did they mention MGS being an exclusive. No worries for Sony.

Agreed.

Looking at FM2 vs GT5: Prologue, I think it is safe to say that date differences will not hurt GT5 in any way whatsoever. Considering one game isn't a full version I think it is safe to say that a full GT5 will outsell any Forza title.

GT needs to actually come out first :sly:.

I have no doubts GT5 will outsell Forza 3, just based on the fact that it seems the GT series has more world popularity while Forza seems to have mostly American popularity.

I'm not worried about the differences, frankly. To be honest, GRID and PGR4 have gone above and beyond what I ever would have expected for a racing title, and given that my early impressions of FM3 make it look like a combination of the two - my guess is that I'm going to love the game.

=-=-=-=-=-=

I didn't get to see all of the EA or Ubisoft press conference, but based on what I've been reading, there wasn't a whole lot to get excited about. NFS: Shift looks like a GRID copy, which isn't a bad thing, but I'm not overly excited. I looks like a heck of a lot of fun with their new classification system that rates you based on your driving style (meethinks mine will be a combination of aggressive/fancy), the graphics look great as well, but with a wide variety of racing games hitting the shelves this fall -- there is a lot of competition to work against.

The new online integration of EA Sports stuff looks pretty cool as well, allowing you to manage your teams and athletes while at home, at work, or when out with friends. The sad part is that I know a lot of guys who are going to be all over this, but in the end, it has little effect on the games I play. Oh well.

Oh... Brutal Legend = WIN.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

There wasn't a whole lot from Ubisoft, sadly. It sounds like they're getting into the accessories game with new corporate-supported guides and such, which is probably a good idea. The big announcement, as far as I could tell, was for Avatar, the game that goes with the new James Cameron movie. They started making the movie and the game two years ago, so there is apparently a lot riding on it. Here's to hoping it isn't a linear retelling of the story, instead something that fleshes out that universe.

I'm looking forward to Nintendo and Sony, both have a lot of ground to cover against the rather surprisingly good Microsoft presser. I don't know if anyone expected it to have that much content, because I know I didn't. Everyone dropped the ball last year, and this is a good change of pace.

Wait, you forgot the incredibly original, never before though of, online co-op for Madden. Actually, I have no clue if that was in the presentation, but they were talking about it last week, so I figured it would.

Oh... Brutal Legend = WIN.
Action RPG using the power of ROCK. How could it not be?
