Super Lap Qualifying

Qualifying will be held through live online sessions. Official days are Mondays and Wednesday at 12.00 pm PST / 08.00 pm GMT / 9.00 pm CET.

QUALIFYING DEADLINE: Thursday 02.00 AM (CET), 01.00 AM (GMT), Wednesday 20.00 PM (EST), 17.00 PM (PST). The deadlines are Thursday (GMT/CET) and Wednesdays (PST/EST) same week as race is held. Around 48 hours prior the race to give organizers some time to sort the grid, view replays find hosts e.t.c. Under no surcumstance can a qualylap be run and official/legit after the deadline is passed.

Any of the Stewards or capable hosts, under the supervision of a Steward/s, can announce and hold qualifying sessions of their own.
No qualifying sessions can be conducted after Wednesday. Qualifying will be on hard Racing Tyres.

Procedure
  • A group of drivers per class will be given 2 laps to set a qualifying lap.
  • Laps will be run in 'Race' and will depend on track size. (Standard=2 laps)
  • Laps will be monitored and watched by fellow competitors to validate cleanliness.
  • The number of cars will depend on track size.
  • Once the race has been commenced, cars will roll on their warm up lap.
  • Cars must stagger a number seconds between each other to make room (about 20 seconds)
  • Standard '2 wheel on track at all times' rule apply (Check Post 3 for Racing Conduct 'Ch.IV Track Contact')
  • Once finished, spectators will declare if their competitor ran a clean or dirty lap
  • If a protest arise for a doubtful or dirty lap, the replay will be saved and checked.
  • If confirmed dirty, a timed penalty will be imposed depending on severity of offense. (Standard 5 seconds)
  • The process will repeat until we reach the limit of available drivers (eg. 25 for each class)

Rules regarding qualy-procedure:

1. If a driver run into ANY trouble during an official qualy-session, the session can under no surcumstance restart.

2. If a driver does not complete the 4th lap, and the replayfile is corrupt, he runs the risk of not getting an official time, EVEN if the
lap was watched and varified clean by a spectator. (It's VERY important that you end the 4th lap)

3. If a driver disconnects during a session, he may reconnect and drive up to that point where he got DC'd. If the DC occurs while on the 1st (2nd lap) qualy-lap, he may restart and this time ONLY his 2nd (3rd lap) qualy-lap will be valid. The lap where the driver got DC'd counts as "dirty" with no registered lap-time.

4. If the car that DC's has any form of damage, but still are able to reconnect and restart his session, that drivers must damge his own car to the same grade of damage that the car had just beore he got DC'd.

5. If a qualy-lap is "dirty", there are 2 possibilities.
a. If a lap-time beyond any doubt was slower due to an "off track/dirty" situation, no penalty is given and the lap-time stays.
b. If a lap-time could have gained any time what so ever due to an "off track/dirty" situation, a penalty of 5 seconds will be added to the lap-time.

________________________________________ ______________________________________

Setting Grid Positions on Race Day
We will set the grid by running a formation/parade lap. After the race countdown reaches zero, you must Hold your positions! DO NOT MOVE ONE INCH!. Remember your
spot from the qualifying results; as well as the person in-front of you and behind you.

Cars move from the grid ONE by ONE. The Pole car drives up and parks about 100 m (300 ft) (WHILE DOING SO, THE OTHER CARS DO NOT MOVE ONE INCH). When he pass the start-line, the next driver can move up, and so on. When all cars are in the correct position and are NOT moving, the pole car starts the formation lap. When GT500's start the formation-lap, GT300's will do the exact same thing. With this in mind: Follow the steps below!

GT500
  • First, you must remember your Grid Spot (Super Lap Qualifying)
  • Hold your positions when countdown reaches zero.
  • GT500 will make their way ONE BY ONE upfront and roll as a separate pack.
  • Cars must roll in a maintained pace of 55 mph / 90 kmh
  • Field will roll double file (form two lines)
  • Odd numbers will start on the inside lane relative to turn 1.
  • Even numbers will stay on the outside lane (Opposite side)
  • The Pole sitter will decide the Green Flag before the Finish line
  • You must maintain a minimum of One car length between you and the car in-front (same lane)
  • One car length is minimum, meaning it's up to you how large the gap will be
  • You must always maintain visual contact with the car beside you
  • You're bumper must not go pass the rear bumper of the car beside you, dping so can be viewed as a false start and a penalty can come as a result.
  • You must wait for the car beside you to move forward before you floor it!
  • No passing before the start finish line! Penalties will be strictly enforced for false starts, illegal passing, and overall aggressive driving!

GT300
  • The same procedure will be followed by the GT300 Cars
  • GT300 pack should be at least 5 seconds behind the GT500 pack.

ADITIONAL GUIDLINE REGARDING START PROCEDURE
When the GT300's are sorted. GT300's will run one lap and park behind the GT500's prior the formationlap.

IMPORTANT: In case of a disonnect during the formationlap, the cars behind have to maintain their position, and can NOT move up the grid. Doing so can result in a penalty for breach of "jump start".

Real Life Example of a Rolling Start:

________________________________________ _______________________________________

Raceday
Mixed Class: There will be 2 races held which will be split into two rooms. Each race/grid
will consist of Seven GT500 cars and seven GT300 cars. The top seven qualifiers for each class will
be relegated to Division 1, while the bottom seven will go to Division 2.

Same Class: GT500 and GT300 cars will battle their own kind. There will be only one room per class.
Top 14 qualifying times will make this single-room event

Hosts: Announced 24 hours prior to the race.

________________________________________ _______________________________________

Points System
PointsSystem2.jpg

Race Percentage Completion
Drivers must complete atleast 85% of the overall race lenght or he/she
will not earn a single championship point (bonus points is kept).
Points classification will move up accordingly. This means any D2 driver can
earn as much as finishing second overall.

Bonus Points
10 - Finish the Race
3 - Pole Position
2 - Fastest Lap

Participation
To accommodate real life commitments (absences), only 8 races will be counted into your standings.
You can drop which ever 2 races you feel like.

Tie Breakers
  • Points
  • Wins
  • Podiums
  • Finished Races
  • Bonus Points
  • Race Starts

  • CONNECT TIME AND RACE TIME
  • ALL drivers must be in the room atleast 30 minutes prior the race. If not, you will be excluded from the race, and all drivers below will move up accordingly. We need to have 30 minutes to make sure that drivers have the time to change rooms/comming in from waiting lists.
  • All drivers must stay tuned of the situation 30 minutes prior the race by looking in this thread. If a driver is missing, a steward or the host for that race where a driver is missing will state that wery clearly in this thread. If a driver is missing in D1, pole for D2 will move up to 7th in D1, and the first on the waiting list will move up to 7th in D2.
  • This is a bit of a communication issue, and that's why I ask all drivers to stay sharp during the half-hour-mark prior the race to make the task as easy to manage as possible for us stewards.

Host Checklist

1. Setup the Raceroom atleast 1 hour prior race start (Connect Time).
*Type: "WSGTC ROUND x"
*Track for that week, set to 150 km. Round up the number of laps.
*Race For Real
*Number of Participants: 14 (16 for same class races)
*Mic/Headset: OFF
*High (Recommended)
*NOT fixed room

*Penalty: OFF
*Grid Start
*Grip Reduction on wet track/track edge: Real
*Damage: Heavy
*Race Finish Delay: 180 (max)
*Time/Weather on the enduros
*Bost: OFF

*532 hp limit (When the race is about to start, let the car on track in PP order. From lowest to highest)
*1050 kg limit
*Tyres: Racing Hard
*ASM: OFF
*TCS: OFF
*SRF: OFF
*Active Steering: OFF
*Driving Line: OFF

2. Post Room Number in the thread

3. Make sure to have the sarting grid close at hand. It will make it easy for you to answer any questions regarding grid spots.

4. If a driver is missing 30 minutes prior the race, you shall post in the thread that a driver from D2/Waiting list can enter. If the "original" driver shows up after you have posted that a spot is open, you have to kick the "original" driver.

5. Make sure to save the replay.

::::: CODE OF RACING CONDUCT :::::

I. Gentleman's Rule
Any GT300 car can use the entire width of the track, however, as soon as it is caught by a fast approaching GT500 car, the GT300 driver must hold its line and allow the faster car to go through at the first available opening. If for some reason the GT300 driver has been caught up in traffic and is unable to hold it's line, the overtaking car will flash his high beam lights to indicate that he is about to overtake. A driver that chooses to ignore the signal multiple times will be reported to the Stewards.

II. Passing
Who has the right of way into a corner will depend on the positions of the cars. If an overtaking car is fully alongside its competitor within or after the braking point, the rights to the corner goes to the overtaking driver. The car being overtaken must surrender the position and should not turn in to the other driver. Otherwise, if the overtaking driver is not fully alongside its competitor at the turn in point, the rights belong to the driver ahead, and it is the obligation of the car attempting to overtake to give the other driver room and do everything possible to prevent an incident. As we all know, peripheral vision is limited in Sim Racing so it is advised that you maximize the available resources we have, such as mirrors, track maps, and audio cues like engine and exhaust notes, to prevent incidents.

III. Defensive Driving
Depending on the situation, any car can be overtaken from either side of the track. You can defend your position only 'once' by changing directions. Anything overly aggressive like sudden movements (when the overtaking car is about to pass and is very close) or deliberately squeezing the car beyond the edge of the track or any other unusual change of direction are strictly forbidden. This is considered illegal blocking and any driver found guilty of using such a method of driving should be reported to the Stewards.

Driving down a straight and placing your car off or opposite the driving line far in advance before the braking point, forcing your opponent to take the outside line or a different line in general, is considered a reasonable strategy for defending your position. This counts as 'one move' - pertaining to the 1st paragraph above. Any more sudden movements right after will be considered illegal blocking and should be reported to the Stewards. This rule may differ from each track in the calendar, notices will be posted prior to the race to accommodate unique variations from each venues (length and width - ex. Nurburgring, La Sarthe).

IV. Track Contact
a) Drivers must always keep 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
b) The edges of the track are marked with white lines and are considered to be a part of the track. Gray/Concrete cobbles are part of the tack.
c) The Rumble Strips are part of the track; however, all surfaces with green paint, either beside it or be the rumbles themselves, are not part of the track
d) Do not hit any objects visible or invisible (eg. cones, barriers, walls, etc.)

In a situation where the driver goes off the track, and without prejudice to part (e) below, he may rejoin, only when it is safe and without gaining any advantage.
Also, if a driver unintentionally or intentionally leaves the track and gains a spot, he must relinquish that spot or he will be penalized.

e) Drivers committing serious mistakes repeatedly or seem to have a problem with keeping the car on the track would be reported to the Stewards and could result in penalties.

At any given time during the season, drivers are expected to follow these rules. Any driver who deliberately appears to break any of these rules to gain advantage at any stage in the race or the season could be penalized by the Stewards as in the case of 'Excistor' during the 2nd race of the preseason, when he deliberately collided with multiple cars, resulting into damaged cars and ruined races. 'Excistor' has now been banned from the series.

V. Driver's Reputation
Every week, drivers will be awarded or deducted points depending on their race conduct (Points will vary). This Rep system will be a good way of telling who's clean or dirty and who's patient or aggressive.

Points:
Finishing race without any incidents: 15p
Finishing race without any incidents but sustaine a warning: 5p
Finishing race with a penalty recieved, but no damage was done to another car: 0p
Finishing race with a penalty recieved and also causing damage to another car: -10p
Finishing race with a penalty recieved of such nature that the penalty is beyond that perticular race:-20p
Finishing race with a DQ: -25p

::::: PENALTY SYSTEM :::::

Stewards have the power to impose various penalties on a driver if he commits an offence during a race. Offences include jumping the start, causing an avoidable accident, unfairly blocking another driver, impeding another driver when being lapped, or gaining an advantage by leaving the track. Penalties will vary depending on severity of offence. Stewards can impose time penalties, reprimand a driver, exclude him from the results, or suspend him from the next race.

I. Offences
  • Breach of the required vehicle specs and 'Race Rules'
  • Breach of the 'Gentleman's Rule'
  • Breach of Track Contact Rules
  • False Start (Passing before start finish of Rolling Start)
  • Avoidable contact resulting to damage and/or forcing other cars off track
  • Hindering drivers from overtaking by changing directions more than once
  • Not relinquishing gained position/s after leaving off track
  • Overall aggressive driving

II. Penalties
  • +10 seconds to Total Time
  • +25 seconds to Total Time
  • +40 seconds to Total Time
  • +5 spots down the grid to next race
  • Exclusion from Results (DQ)
  • Suspension for 1 Race + Probation for whole season
  • Exclusion from the whole Championship

Specifics
Breach of Racing Code - IV. Track Contact
Three Strike System
Strike 1: Warning
Strike 2: +5 seconds
Strike 3: +30 seconds (May depend after Steward deliberation)
Further track contact violations will result to bigger timed penalties and/or Disqualification.

Penalty steps (MINIMUM PENALTYS LISTED)
Aggressive driving: Warning
Illegal Blocking: 10 seconds
Rejoining track after an off without any regards to oncoming trafic: 10 seconds
Corner Cutting resulting in time/spot gained without giving the Time/spot back: 25 seconds
Avoidable damage caused to another car (intentionally OR unintentionally): 40 seconds

Any of the above can add up to eachother whan judging an incident. I.e You spin off and enters the track without any regards to oncoming trafic and also cause damage to another car will give a minimum of 50 seconds (rejoining track without any regards to oncoming trafic. 10 seconds plus 40 seconds for causing avoidable damage to another car)

III. Reporting an Incident
Issues must be first kept privately between the parties involved (through the PM system). If the said parties do not come to a mutual agreement, the issue must be escalated and reported to the Stewards within 24 hours after the race, otherwise, thanks to the crap replay system, penalties will not be given out or considered unless it is noted by the Stewards (If you are involved, it is your responsibility to inform the Stewards of your side of the story within the 24 hour time limit). Furthermore, if a Steward/s is/are involved in an incident, he/she will be excluded temporarily from the Stewards Committee.

Please disclose important information about incidents along with your report.
  • Lap/Time when incident occurred
  • How long did incident occur (approx.)
  • How many were involved
  • Who was/were involved

Deliberation Process
  • An incident is reported and/or noted by Drivers/Stewards
  • Stewards will contact driver/s in potential fault
  • After hearing both parties, Stewards will review the replay and give suitable penalties.

Enforcing Penalties
Penalties will be strictly enforced. They can neither be appealed nor reversed.

Make sure someone snaps quite a few pictures. Those of us watching the series would love to see the action that takes place in and around the corkscrew!

I'm sure I'll take a few so long as I'm in the action! It's not so fun taking pictures of the front runners when you're way behind! It also means you didn't really know what was happening in the action.

I'll be sure to take a few, though, wherever I come.

Can't wait for this, Laguna Seca is great for overtaking - with the close racing last time, this should be awesome :D

It's also great for consistency, there's at least three corners where it's easy to have big offs if you're pushing even a little too hard. Slow and steady totally wins at Laguna Seca.

If so maybe this is my race. Hahahaha I got slow down to a science.

Edit: Wonder what controllers you guys use?

G27 inverted pedals on custom solid steel cockpit. No flex anywhere.

Thinking of buying the Thrustmaster wheel.

Yep. I think quali will be interesting too. I remember from pre-season that it was really a pain to string a quick lap together without running wide somewhere. Will have to be quick but also cautious, could see a lot of invalid laps I think!

DFGT. Bolted to random desk. $5 second-hand office chair I picked up at the recycling store. It has wobbly arms. Pedals jammed up against the sub unit from the $20 speaker set I use.

When it dies I'll probably get a Fanatec, just because the only thing holding me back from buying an Xbox at this point is the fact that I can't use my wheel on it. It was my first wheel so I didn't want to go too overboard the first time in case I didn't take to it. I'd say I've definitely got my $150 worth out of it so far...

i use a dfgt mounted to a random stool and i sit on the floo up against some pillows and i have my pedals standing up at the think i have my tv on. very chep and for me nice. ;)

for me it's DFGT mounted to what began it's life as a laptop stand and has been drilled/sawed/epoxy'd to become a custom stand for the DFGT.

also just as an aside, i am so thrilled to be racing on Laguna Seca this time. this is where my love of motorsport began, as i grew up attending races there. i think my first one was in 1982 or 1983. i actually met Richard Petty at that race, watched him get drunk on whisky, dancing like a wildman late at night, communing with the fans who were camped out on the grounds (including me and my family). great memories. can't wait to rock the corkscrew!

-d

PS - my personal familiarity with this track in no way is meant to suggest or imply that i will actually be fast. that is not happening. i'm still stoked though!

Another DFGT user here. It's mounted on a small table that you'd usually eat off if you were watching TV, a TV table? I also sit on the World's most uncomfortable chair that can leave you in agony if you don't cushion it somehow!

Like Imari it was my first wheel, but we have a 360 and the only thing stopping me from buying FORZA is the fact that I can't use my wheel. I would buy the Fanatec, the clutch/shifter looks so much fun, but the DFGT hasn't died yet.

I started practice yesterday and was wondering what kind of laptimes I should be looking at to qualify for Division 1. After about 2 or 3 laps I got my time down to 1:27.147 so I'm guessing that a good qualifying time will be as low as 1:25.8XX

Hi guys! (Denilson speaking)

I'm logged in to Masis account to make the results from Suzuka final.
Sorry for beeing 15 hours late.. I had a football-game yesterday, and the I went out with some friends. Hope you understand 👍

However, I was thinking about something that I need your opinion about.

It's regarding the total times. Since the races are so long, the GT300's never make it past the finishline. When a penalty is given, this causes some isses. Cause the total time for all drivers that did not finish is impossible to calculate. How do we solve this issue?

I have a suggestion.
How about the GT300's starts ahead of the GT500's? It will force another round of overtakes of the GT300's by the GT500's, and it might not be that good to overtake the GT300's that early in the race since all cars are close together in the beginning of the races. Ifyou look at it from a positive angle, it adds exitement, if you look at it from a negative angle, it creates another round of overtakes.

I suggest the GT500's start almost 60 seconds behind the GT300's.. In that case, GT500's will not catch up to fast and the fields will be more spread out when the overtaking begins. The 60 second gap might be great enough for only 1 round of overtakes.. So in practice, it will be the same, with the difference that the overtking starts earlier.

In this way, we will get total times for all drivers if not left to far behind ofc.

What do you guys think?

NOTE: To all Lexus drivers in GT500 class. From this week, the race and qualy rooms will be set to 532 hp. So you need to downgrade your engines to that limit. It will not change that much, and it's possible that we will set the rooms to 522 hp in the future. But from this week we will set the rooms to 532hp. What are your PP with this in mind? Before the PP was 618 for the Lexus.. I guess this will only reduce your PP by 1 or 2..

You could have the GT300s start behind the GT500s, but a lap up.

1. GT500s park at the start line, GT300s do one lap and park behind the GT500s.
2. Do the formation lap. This is lap 1 for GT500s, and lap 2 for GT300s.
3. Rolling start at the end of the formation lap.

Adds a few minutes to the start procedure, but should get you what you want with no additional overtaking and such.

Or, you can run it like more like a checkered flag thing. GT gives you three minutes to finish the race. Often for F1 races and such, you simply finish the lap you were on when the leader passed the line because people are so far behind. Nobody wants to wait another 10 minutes for HRT to finish. Once the timer starts running, classify people on their time the first time they cross the start/finish line. It takes away another minute or so of potential battle in a close race, but if everyone knows the rule going in there's no problem. I don't know about this week, potentially you can use it if there was no position changes in that final period of the race that you're cutting off.

both ideas r good 👍 why didnt we think of this before hand lol

We will go with this procedure:

"You could have the GT300s start behind the GT500s, but a lap up.

Added to the OP:

ADITIONAL GUIDLINE REGARDING START PROCEDURE
When the GT300's are sorted. GT300's will run one lap and park behind the GT500's prior the formationlap.

Laguna Seca Practice Room Up: 1472-6681-3716-3558-9538

Room still open.. CLOSED (OwensRacing might be there)

What is a good time for GT500's?

High 25's is probably doable ina GT300, but what about GT500's?
I think GT500's are less superior on Laguna Seca than Suzuka.. Part cause of the length of the track, and part cause of the lack of long straights..

Is 1:21's doable?
I can't remember if we used soft or hards on laguna during the qualy in pre-season..

21's are definetly doable, pole position might be decided at high 20's maybe.

Check your PM's.

You're a fast guy tony :)

If I make a 21, I'll be thrilled..

I've read your PM. And stewards are discussing it at the moment 👍

I made a Google Doc spreadsheet for the stewards to use to post qualifying times during the SuperQuali. sessions.

It's an easy, complete (every track is listed in different sheets you can select toward the bottom of the spreadsheet) way to collect quali. results. The first race at Suzuka was archived by being moved all the way to the right in the order of tracks. This is so the current track being run opens first when you open the sheet.

Everyone can view the doc but only the stewards may alter it. An awesome way for everyone to keep track of quali. times posted in real-time.

Here's the qualifying sheet we're looking to use as the official time registry.

Cheers
