"I know you can read my thoughts, boy..."

He is a double world champion after all. He was the guy that knocked Schumi off his perch so I think he has a right to be a little up himself. I know I would be if that was me. Hell I'm like that now.

What did Hamilton do? Beat Massa? By one point?

Ok.

. Do you not remember that Raikkonen was faster than Alonso in 2005? And that had it not been for Schumachers engine failure in Japan in 2006; and his puncture in Brazil. He wouldn't have been champion then either. Sorry to tell you this, but he got lucky (yes, like Hamilton) on both occasions.

Without luck you won't get anywere in motorsports!!everybody needs some luck here and there(its an mechanical sport remember....)

And for Alonso's wins,if he wasn't in a position to grab the WC with a bit of luck in the first place,he'd never won it... 💡

I don't see any Free Practice at www.formula1.com , it just Practice..

You are right, Free Practise (now "Practise Session") is the traditional name for it, to distinguish these sessions from the one where the times you set count for your grid position. ("Qualifying Session").

This, because in the old days the Qualifying session wasn't really different from any other practise session, the difference being only that it COUNTED for the grid position.

In portuguese the sessions were called:

"Sessão de Treinos Livres" - Free Training Session

"Sessão de Treinos Cronometrados" - Timed Training Session

I guess the "Free" word comes from that.

"What If's" don't count in F1. During the course of a season many things, good and bad, lucky and unlucky, happen to all contenders so it's just not worth it to try and calculate all the what if's that could be but weren't.

To be WDC you must be at the top of your game and you must be lucky when needed. I suspect any other then Alonso, driving this year's Ferrari, would be out of the title race by now. But - again - this is a "what if" so it can't really be argued.

EDIT: Tree'd by spy :dopey:

Alonso and Hamilton in the mid 1.41 now, Webber with 1.42 flat ... Vettel much slower, maybe his time to test the car with a heavy fuel load

Edit: Kubica 3rd with a 1.41,9xx.

Okay, both of you have a point there and I'll take what you both have said onboard. :) However, I still do not like him. Nothing will change this so leave the matter there, and so will I.

Geez, could Fauzy be any slower? Just shows how stupid Mr.Fernandes was for giving him a tester role just because he is Malaysian. Fairuz does not even have a good record in lower formula anyway.

I've heard Fauzy is only there because Danny Bahar - the guy who runs Group Lotus - wants him there. Which is a dark tiding for Renault next season if Group Lotus buy into them, because Fauzy makes Yoong look good.

LOL, Hamilton P1, the Maccas definitely have the pace and this is shaping up for a very interesting title decider! 👍

EDIT: IF this session's result is replicated at the end of the race, Alonso with his 3rd place will be WDC. So, having Hamilton up there is not necessarily dangerous for him.

I don't know if you watched all of practice, but the McLaren's looked like they were struggling to be honest, Hamilton was right on the limit. I doubt they can mix it up at all this weekend.

Well, at least they're not letting Alex Yoong test.

Alex Yoong was actually better than Fauzy, as hard as it maybe to believe. The highest the gap between Yoong and Webber ever reached in Qualifying in 2002 was 2.451 seconds. Fauzy was 3.233 seconds off Trulli in FP1 alone today. Earlier in the season, he did a little better. But only a little. Hopefully, he never gets a race drive. Its gonna be Ide all over again.

Actually, lets hope he does get a race drive. Imagine how much that would spice up a race? An incident every lap!

I believe that Webber and Kubica are in good positions because of better engines. Unless they messed themselves up.

Vitaly to Robert: Uh-oh, looks like Pete has dozed of again...
Robert: *FACEPALM*

Sorry. I know its not the caption competition, but it had to be done!

This is bad. This is bad. How did Lewis get fastest time? and why didn't Alonso's engine blow up? Maybe he's saving it for the race, some fireworks to end his season with.

I... think it's pretty much about this:

“I’m pretty satisfied with how it went today but it was tricky for the first few laps. After the rain, which I think took everyone by surprise, the track was quite damp in places, and combining that with the fact I could only use one set of tyres, meant I couldn’t really push. Despite that it was great to be back in the car, and I think I did a good team job today.” Said Fairuz.
