2012 Malaysian Grand Prix

Brilliant race IMO! :)

I would have loved to see Perez win, just that one mistake cost him it :( Second place is not bad though, and I'd love to see Sauber move up in the ranks!

Grosjean: Fast, an excellent start, but way too many mistakes. Needs to improve a lot :irked:

And I cannot believe how everyone is blaming Karthikeyan for those incidents :yuck:

I dont think he ever actually touches the curb.. At most he gets near the white line painted next to the curb. But for some reason he makes an aggressive cut right into the back of Vettel.(no pun intended :sly:)
If you've ever ridden a bicycle or a motorcycle you'll know that road lines are lethal in the wet.

Also, it wasn't an "aggressive cut", he was actually following what appeared to be the racing line at the time.

That's not to say he was without any blame, but it wasn't as reckless as some seem to be making out.

I'd call that one a racing incident but now Karthikeyan was a backmarker and should be ceding track position under F1's blue flag rules. Karthikeyan was moving slightly right while Vettel was Hamiltoning slightly left - Vettel didn't give him enough room to complete the "pass", but only because Karthikeyan moved slightly into that space.

First one, racing incident but Button's fault; Second one, 50:50 racing incident.

The thing is, with the second incident, Karthikeyan has already had an off on the corner beforehand and he wouldn't have actually known the number of cars behind the first car. He can only assume there were cars behind him somewhere.

Additionally, that part of the track you have to move to the right a little bit to be on the safe side as to stay to the left hand side of the track would have been quite tricky (variable grip and so on).

If Vettel hadn't jinked left when he did, it wouldn't have been an issue at all.

Vettel assumed that he was pass the HRT car. Assuming makes an ass out of you. Which he found out to his cost today.

Well, I've watched my last Formula 1 race

Perez winning could have been one of the best moments in a very long time, but instead we get the same garbage

What a joke

How exactly was this "the same garbage". Bearing in mind, this is only Ferrari's second race victory since Singapore 2010. I would have loved to see Perez win too, but he didn't.

I don't see how he "assumed" anything. Watch from 0:50. There was still room. Narain turned to his right and thus, contact was made.

And I cannot believe how everyone is blaming Karthikeyan for those incidents :yuck:

Now that i'd saw the reply. Just one incident that he's the one to blame which is with Vettel but i'm with my mind, racing incident with Vettel move in too early.

Other incident, it wasn't his fault but still, he apologise to both of them. Good sportsmanship. 👍

Looks can be decieving. Its actually confusing to tell who did the jinking if your just looking at both cars. Because if you look at the car it seems like VEttel moved Left....But upon closer inspection that isnt what happened.

Focus on Narain Karthikeyans left rear tire...Watch the gap betweenhis left rear and the red/white curbing go from 0 to there being a sizeable gap...that tells you that Karthikeyan moved not Vettel.Go to :46 seconds and focus on Karthikayans left rear tire. Watch the gap.

Yep - the same assumption Hamilton made with Kobayashi at Spa last year. But Kobayashi was fighting for position and Karthikeyan was being lapped...

As Coulthard said, Narain couldn't have made his car disappear but by following the racing line he put himself into the space Vettel thought he'd given him. Has to be a 50:50.

Vettel's comments and gestures don't help matters:

Vettel
It's just like on the normal roads. You have some idiots driving around and now we have one here.

Both cars moved. Vettel back to the racing line, Karthikeyan to follow the racing line (watch the cars in front).

I felt intense dislike for Vettel when he said that.

Showed that he takes things too seriously.

You just cannot state that on television when you have 24 other talented drivers that can drive a 200mph lethal missiles around a track.

Funny how everyone called Hamilton bigheaded, and hated him for his attitude...

Vettel has a car that isn't the best for 2 races and he is just as bad.

Meh I dont see it. Watching it from the front makes it even more obvious...The next corner was a left hander so why would the racing line be on the left at that point. they both where drifting right. Vettel sort of went straight even though the track was changing direction. Karthikeyan just went right. and instant slashing. I just watched one of vettel tires and its distance from the side of the track and not much really changes. even though the curb/white lines are curving he appears to just follow that.

When i look at the cars i cant tell whats going on because rightly so I shouldnt be able to without and reference points. When you watch the tires and distance to the curb you should see who moves.

Well, that's what separates me from Formula 1 fans

I dont accept it, they do.

F1 fans seem more inclined to argue about somebody colliding with a backmarker then the fact the winner of the race simply told his challenger to "go away" and he did.

I'm done here, my opinion appears to be in the vast minority, I dont want to appear as trolling, so, if you guys are happy with racing like that, then by all means, enjoy yourselves.

Vettel doesn't move left. It just looks like it because of the track.

I'm a huge Vettel fan, but it's quite ridiculous how he currently is because he doesn't have the best car.

I see you are one of those...

He was told to be careful, not to run off the road and risk beaching his 2nd place car in the gravel, denying him any points.

Funny how everyone called Hamilton bigheaded, and hated him for his attitude...

I still do.

Vettel has a car that isn't the best for 2 races and he is just as bad.

How exactly?

It would have been great if Perez had won, but this is a competition. Not pre-scripted wrestling. What happened, happened. No amount of whining can change that.

Never happened. Just because it looked like we were going to have a "fairytale" ending doesn't mean we were guaranteed it.

I'm done here, my opinion appears to be in the vast minority, I dont want to appear as trolling, so, if you guys are happy with racing like that, then by all means, enjoy yourselves.

Fair enough. See you in the Chinese grand prix thread.

I'm a huge Vettel fan, but it's quite ridiculous how he currently is because he doesn't have the best car.

He was running fourth.

So the fact an inexperienced driver, in difficult conditions, pushing hard and having the drive of his life made a mistake is inconceivable?

Riiiiiggh.

Exactly, it seems that he spun because the kerb was still wet and he couldn't get enough grip to put the power down on the exit.

I know... Countless big name drivers have done the same.

Its blatantly obvious at 44 seconds who did the tir cutting. Karthikeyan is a cucumber :sly:

Except that Karthikeyan was never on the curb... I would have preferred that those lame HRT's didnt even qualify for this race.

So I was right...

KT turned in on him...

For me it simply looked like Narain didn't back off enough and Vettel was unaware that he would still be there as he came to take his normal line. Not too sure who was at fault myself, going with Famine on the 50:50 call.

Has to be a 50:50.Both cars moved. Vettel back to the racing line, Karthikeyan to follow the racing line (watch the cars in front).

Are you kidding yourself there? KT had plenty of space to move to the left or stay where he was (in a straight line) but no, he has to turn to the right, where another car is, so what are you talking about?

Even if Vettel moved, there was NO need whatsoever for KT to move to the right, he HAD the space to avoid it=fact.

It should be easier for him to judge the distance than for Vettel, obviously.

He was running fourth.

Yes, what's your point?

Anyway, I thought this was pretty amusing. Vettel said this yeaterday after Qualifying.

"I think in race trim we might look a bit better, but nonetheless I think you can see that we don’t have the easiest car to drive, we are aware of that and are pushing very hard."

Meh I dont see it. Watching it from the front makes it even more obvious...The next corner was a left hander so why would the racing line be on the left at that point.

Because that's how the racing line works.

Vettel had just come out of a right-handed corner. The racing line eases to the outside of the track - where he contacted with Karthikeyan (and Karthikeyan moved slightly right on Vettel too - I agree with Famine here, 50:50). After that, the drivers drift back over to the right of the circuit for the left-hander.

It's not rocket science. Drivers don't exit a corner and immediately get in position for the next corner - they take the line of least resistance. It was just unfortunate for Vettel that another car was in that spot a little longer than he expected.

KT was following the racing line, he didn't turn to the right any more than he failed to turn away.

He simply did the same has he had done time-after-time lap-after-lap previous. Againt, doesn't clear him of fault, be he didn't turn into SV.
