2012 Malaysian Grand Prix

Their pit strategy wasn't better, he was just kept out on the track longer than others. Hell, if he hadn't pitted at all he probably could have been leading the race at some point today.

Karth is a magnet for incidents. I don't know if it is his driving style or what, but he brings out the worst in other people and they make mistakes. I can't explain it, but there is something wrong with him.

But there's no guarantee that it will be a success. Their current car is pretty naff and the conditions worked to Alonso's favour today. In a straight, dry race it's not much cop. So then again with that said, it can only get better.

Yes, but if the new car doesn't work out, they can revert to the current. Unless that is a dead end development wise (like last year's Renault) then I'd happily place a sizeable bet on either car being far better by the Sauber by the end of the year.

I wouldn't say that. In both cases, he could have jumped out of the way, but he wasn't obligated to do so.

I love waking up and seeing my favorite driver won. :D

You missed a great race too.

Still blame the small team for the big team fault i see.

First off, Button. He should have known Narain is racing with him. So, in what world a racing driver should back off? Because the car is effing slow and let the big guy passed? Go play some games if you want that to happen. These guys are racing, Button should be ready in any kind of situation.

Second, Vettel. I rate him high but he obviously make a stupid mistake for the second time. Narain had done his best to avoid and guess what, Vettel thought his car was a 2009-spec car. This years a car is a limo for god sake, turn early infront of Narain won't help him. Just like he did with Webber in 2010. :P

No offence but this is imo. :)

I agree with most that Karth wasn't technically "at fault" for those incidents, however I still believe he should have given up his position to both Button and Vettel much easier, he shouldn't be fighting with two world champions, it's not his place. He finished where he belongs, at the bottom, he knew that's where he would finish, but he ended up contributing to a ruined race for two people who actually are in points contention.

Too bad.

How about we get rid of all these mid runners and make F1 a World Champ only sport with 10 racers?

Is that what you are saying.

If Vettel is a world champ he should have made the overtake much cleaner, same with Button.

If anyone is to blame it is them for thinking he is a HRT he will yield to me cause I am faster.

Well it was at 1:30 AM, and IndyCar is on today too.

Arrrggh...So close for Perez!

Just remember what engine the Sauber has.

Even if running wide wasn't accidentally on purpose, after that team radio he simply kept his distance and didn't challenge Alonso at all when he so would have had him in the DRS zone.

I'm trying to forget, but...the more common excuse is "error under pressure during unfamiliar circumstances".

I would upload it somewhere for you, but this is illegal because it is copyrighted by F1 and against AUP to share such things, but I did record it so I can re-watch it if I want.

Which coincidentally, starts at a similar time for me... I'll still be watching it anyway. ;)

He had a look in at turn one. He also continued to catch Alonso after his off. I really don't see why people are coming to this conclusion. Sauber are free to race the Scuderia. I haven't seen anything bad happening to the Toro Rosso's despite them getting in the way of Ferrari's on a few occasions over the past few years.

Did people start accusing Mansell of binning it on purpose when he led his first race?

The fact is, Sergio is still young and relatively inexperienced. His nerves probably just got the better of him in this case. I suppose the way Perez ran off the track, bringing out the safety car was also pre-determined?

Narain 'Voodoo' Karthikayen, that'll catch on.

Narain Karthikeyan's in the way in Turn 9. :)

I have only seen one angle of the incident between Karthikeyan and Vettel and it looked like Vettel drove in to him.

What lap was that?

What lap was that?

I don't know, but I think it's a couple of corners before their incident, so... 10 laps from the end?

Hmm...

"Then there was the incident with Vettel. I was letting everyone through on blue flags because I was being told on the radio. I got on the white line, which was still damp, and I was on slicks obviously so I had a lot of wheelspin. I then had to come back on the track from the kerb, and he was there unfortunately and I could not do anything."

The Indian was penalised with a post-race drive-through penalty for his collision with Vettel, dropping him behind team-mate Pedro de la Rosa in 22nd place.

EDIT:

It begins at 0:44. I think it's pretty clear who was at fault after seeing the incident again.

Narain, on the other hand, didn't do any defending at all. In one incident, Karthikayen drove slightly wide, Button made a (rare) mistake, outbraked himself and drove into his sidepod. It's impossible to pin that on Karthikayen.

In the other, Narain was on the racing line, Vettel drove in deep, overtook him, then drove straight back out onto the racing line. Karthikayen was already an inch or two from the curbs. Surely, you're not suggesting, seeing as how everyone who's edged onto a curb this weekend has spun straight off the track, that Narain should have jumped onto it?

The overtaking driver has the absolute responsibility to make sure he's 100% ahead of the other driver before getting back on line. Vettel didn't. He paid for it. Same thing he did on Webber in Turkey, and Narain didn't deserve that vitriol from him.

I can't believe the race has been over for hours and this is still being debated.

Was to be expected no that this would stick in the gentlemens club post-race; i agree tough Vettel should have moved back on the line with more caution 👍

It always amuses me to reading stuff like this.

Yeah, he just kept the distance.
Thats why he was closing at Alonso and was in the DRS zone.
Guess what, after his mistake he was purpleing sector times again.

And no 21 year old driver would give up and take 2nd place, when a race win is more or less granted (Alonso was much slower...).

Haters gonna hate, especially haters with a sig like yours.

Indeed. Brave gamble by HRT starting on the wets and Karthikeyan running as high as 10th until Button and Vettel both clumsily ran into him.

I have to admit that Button was quite clumsy but Vettel didnt do anything wrong and his race got ruinned (thank God :D) by the moving chicane (who got a penalty for the stunt)

The blue flag signs should be on at all times for the HRT IMO

You probably didnt watch the race very carefully... Vettel never left the line... it was the HRT that ran into him for no apparent reason... other than lack of skills from what I can gather from his own words - I was letting everyone through on blue flags because I was being told on the radio. I got on the white line, which was still damp, and I was on slicks obviously so I had a lot of wheelspin. I then had to come back on the track from the kerb, and he was there unfortunately and I could not do anything."

i dont quite think that is right.See the replay again. Vettel didnt really move back onto the line. KArthikeyan initiated the contact by turning right. Its really clear in this video.

Its blatantly obvious at 44 seconds who did the tir cutting. Karthikeyan is a cucumber :sly:

Except that Karthikeyan was never on the curb... I would have preferred that those lame HRT's didnt even qualify for this race.

Raikkonen had Fastest lap :)

Looks like he's on the kerb at 46 seconds.

I dont think he ever actually touches the curb.. At most he gets near the white line painted next to the curb. But for some reason he makes an aggressive cut right into the back of Vettel.(no pun intended :sly:)

No. Jenson admits he ran into Karthikeyan

I've just watched the BBC highlights and not caught the interviews, but I'd call that one a racing incident - Karthikeyan was in position and had every right to defend it, Button simply went to pass him on assumptions he shouldn't have made.

and when Vettel ran into him, Karthikeyan was driving in a straight line.

I'd call that one a racing incident but now Karthikeyan was a backmarker and should be ceding track position under F1's blue flag rules. Karthikeyan was moving slightly right while Vettel was Hamiltoning slightly left - Vettel didn't give him enough room to complete the "pass", but only because Karthikeyan moved slightly into that space.

First one, racing incident but Button's fault; Second one, 50:50 racing incident.

And that finish was one of the cheapest F1 finishes I've ever seen, nailed onto an otherwise exciting race.

Well, I've watched my last Formula 1 race

Perez winning could have been one of the best moments in a very long time, but instead we get the same garbage

What a joke

Button said he locked up the rears and therefore speared into KArthikeyan.

Another Ferrari Conspiracy..When will it ever end.

After watching it again, I think it is NK's fault.

Ditto. I missed that part while reading the Autosport live text commentary. I can't understand the Japanese commentary. Judging by the response on here, I had assumed it was Vettel's fault. Having seen the incident, it was Narain's fault.

The blue flag signs should be on at all times for the HRT IMO

Have to disagree. Despite the lack of pace in the HRT, the rules are there for a reason. Besides, if they were to actually blue flag the HRT constantly, then how would they alert them when there was a faster car coming up behind them?
