Of course that'll happen, Ricky Taylor already drove at Le Mans for that very team that'll have them so that's really a forgone conclusion.

So, understandably (and as I questioned earlier), GM is weighing its options and presence in Prototype racing after 2016.

However, a part of me thinks that their future in the program might not be entirely related to FIA/ACO/IMSA's regulations, what with the rumors of a Mid-Engined "Zora" Corvette adding to the nameplate and slotting in above the Z06. I think if GM decided to move ahead with that car, it would make it easier for them to justify running a Prototype program, and connecting the two together. Especially since the new prototype regulations would be rolling out the same time as the MR Vette's projected release date (2017).

Just a theory.

Hasn't the rumor of a rear-engine Corvette always existed though? From what I hear, it repeatidly turns up with each Corvette that comes out.

Impress the racing world GM and build a full factory spec LMP1 team and call it whatever you want and stop trying to turn prototype racing into NASCAR. Or since P2 is already powered by a production engine you can either take the Vette V8 engine or use that new Cadillac V6 turbo that will power the new GT3 car and market that, like HPD and Nissan do.

Good one

Imagine the Ligier with the GTE Corvette engine.
I'd love that. Hack the fin off and I'd cheer for that car. Great engine note and actually would look pretty good

True, but having read the last round of rumors that sprang up a few years ago, there's a different vibe coming from these articles.

The very fact that the DP Corvette bodywork even come to fruition, coupled with the MT article stating that the C7 was supposed to be MR before things got put on hold and eventually frozen altogether makes me wonder if an MR Vette really is going to happen.

That article doesn't surprise me. Who in their right mind would spend the money on a brand new car when regulations are changing in 2017 anyways? Not to mention the inconsistent BOP, it's either a DP walkover or a P2 domination. It wouldn't surprise me if the series had no full time P2's next season. (Except the Mazdas, but they might as well be in GTD with their pace).

Kill the prototypes damn it, VIR was the best race of the season by far!

If memory serves me correct, would the Ligier and HPD coupes effectively be safe for the 2016 regulations?

Also, I love that people keep forgetting that the DP field is majorily Chevy DPs, which regularly outrun the Ford Ecoboost Rileys. Might as well call it "CP" instead of DP.

You sure are quick to prove his point, aren't you?
You win the internet!

@catamount39 Yea they're ahead, but that's to be expected between the DPs. Ford has a new turbo engine. That's never been done successfully in a DP before really. Same with HPD. The LMP2 cars haven't shown durability plus the straightline disadvantage makes it where the Vette DP is the best platform

As usual he has no point and his clever comments were either deleted by himself or the racer.com mod soon after they were posted. I'm surprised he didnt include the good ole tinfoil hats comment in too.

Not sure you understand what he's getting at...

On a better note, it's race week again!

Hold your horses chief, they're only entering the WEC with it. The sane world championship at the moment. :D

Edit: Oak Racing Ligier dominated Friday practice! I knew that the Ligier would be a factor when it came over to Tudor. :D

ESM have dropped out of Petit Le Mans and will instead race P2 class in the 6 Hours Of Shanghai.

Why did Fox put the race on Fox Sports 2? Certainly they could have put it on FOX if they wanted to- granted, I get FS2, but putting the race there might hurt the TV viewer count.

That's kind of ironic, because I'm pretty sure Ed Brown and Scott Sharp were one of the catalysts in getting the "merger" together in the first place.. Now they're dropping out of the last race to go race in China. I can't say I blame them, I just find it kind of funny.

I don't know, looks like Ricky cut in front of him at the last minute.. The Taylors know they have a championship on the line and they know Yacaman is aggressive, so why would they go toe to toe with him in the first corner?
