2016 Pirelli Spanish Grand Prix

More or less a racing incedent Rosberg wasn't expecting Lewis to have as quick of run on himvas he did and instinctively wrnt right and Lewis was moving at such a pace already he wasn't expecting Rosberg to move completely over to the right as much as he did, and well once on grass its pretty much down hill from there.

Initially I thought Lewis' fault, now I'm leaning more towards racing incident.

Lewis had a good turn 3 staying outside of Nico's dirty air and I imagine Lewis wanted to take him straight back after being taken around the outside. If you look closely on Lewis' onward his right hand moves to deploy some ERS which is why he gets such a good run on Nico.

Apparently, if Lewis get a reprimand, he'll get a 10 place penalty for Monaco.
Which would likely hand Nico another win in the Principality.

Vettel closing in on Max...:nervous:

Was Lewis checking his phone? Why didn't he back down. He keeps saying he is quicker than Nico but why prove it the first lap?

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in there, though...

Just imagining the swearing Niki is doing right now is giving me the giggles.

Never mind Nikki, imagine Toto's mood right now.

They should give Rosberg a grid penalty of something and Lewis a reprimand, that would make Monaco VERY interesting.
Not sure how giving Lewis a reprimand wouldn't give him a penalty. As said before, this would be his third, which is an automatic 10 place grid penalty.

That's what I meant, both get a penalty, Lewis' just a bit harsher.

Looking at a replay it looks like Nico made a double move. I stand by my original statement.
Ive not yet had the pleasure of conversing with you but as this race/thread evolves it has become apparent that it is highly entertaining.

Did you have any intention of replying to my post against yours earlier? or were you so surprised someone actually responded you overlooked?

I feel like Hamilton had so much more speed out of turn 3, that the move was definitely on, but he was caught out by Rosberg's aggressive block. Rosberg in turn probably didn't realise how much speed Hamilton actually had until it was too late.

It's not the first time we've had an incident like this between these two. Bahrain 2012, Hamilton had to make a move off track after Rosberg pulled an aggressive block. Rosberg later tried the same move on Alonso which left the Spaniard quite upset.

That was my first thought, when Rosberg did that in Bahrain (pre-2014), where there was painted tarmac rather than slippy grass.

There is no way of knowing 100% what would have happened if the roles were switched. It's a hypothetical scenario and therefore it is irrelevant to the discussion.

I think it's a pure racing incident and poor judgment on both drivers' part. The overhead shot is much clearer than the front shot. Nico shouldn't have moved over so far right, but being the leader he is entitled to. Lewis is not yet alongside Nico when Nico started moving right, so he should have backed off and moved left (making the initial right a dummy move), and that would've been easy pass round the outside. Unfortunately he got caught out because he expected Nico to give him room (which is unlikely, and he should have expected that by now because of past history). More importantly, there's no need to risk it so early in the race. This would've been a classic incident in a Gran Turismo online race, but I expected better from 2 experienced F1 drivers.

On another note, since the FIA put an age limit on the superlicense, does this mean any record Max set in this race is going to be unbroken forever?

Regardless of who's fault the Merc collision was, I think Lewis could turn this into a small win if he just puts his hand up and says "My fault." Steal the moral high ground while he can

Essentially.

A good analysis of what happened.
