Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

I like it but makes me pissed that its not at VIR this year. I thought it would have been so cool to see Bryan Drive GRRR!!

Well, it looks like he'll be coming to Watkins Glen, my home track. Maybe I can get him to sign my copy of GT5 :D

EDIT: At least I think he'll be at Watkins Glen. The news feed was a bit confusing.

Do you go to both Grand-Am weekends?

Yes, I'll be attending both the Sahlen 6 Hours (Which includes the Continental Tire Sires), and the Crown Royal 200 (Or whatever they call it now). The NASCAR race is a bonus that weekend.

Yeah. My friend that races Formula Ford and recently some Mazda USF2000 stuff is really good friends with Mark Blundell and his son, so he went up tp Watkins Glen last year when Mark was racing a DP car. He had fully paddock passes and was staying with them.

I think I may have gotten his autograph while he was there (I got so many I lost track). Grand Am is one of the most fan friendly motorsports around, and, during an autograph session, anyone could just walk into the garage area for free and collect anyone's autograph.

Last year at VIR i walked into a Mazda USF2000 tent and talked to some guys. They said the driver was only 15! That would be so cool to race those!

Lets get this back to the first page!

Grand-am is finally back this week at Barber. I can't wait to see how everything turns out with all the time the teams have had since Daytona to tweak their cars.

Looking forward to this weekend, it also happens to be my birthday! Debating of also going to the Watkins Glen 6 Hour at the end of June.

Its already started. Corvettes dominating DP right now and a Ferrari taking the lead in GT.👍

Im watching on ONE in Australia and wondering how live the coverage is. Seems to be pretty close to live here. Good to see Westbrook up the front.

Coverage in US isn't live. Its on Speed channel, but tape delayed from earlier. Guess Speed had to get all the live NASCAR in. The Speed coverage is decent though with Leigh Diffey and Calvin Fish calling the race. There's another guy but can't remember his name.

The race is not disappointing. Lots of action and some contact here and there. Very entertaining so far.👍

Small field today. Only 28 total cars for the race. 75 Cars are currently racing the CTSCC race.

But there are a lot of cars missing in the RSPS race...very interesting.

Leigh Diffey just mentioned an embarrassing engine problem, or loss of an engine while talking about the Turner motorsports BMW team, anyone know what was going on there? Something about not wanting to make it public?

Good race, except for that stupid move by Angelleli..

That move by Angelleli was down right dangerous. I was glad to see the officials penalize him, however, I was quite surprised when the #01 got penalized for clipping the front of the Audi R8. It was clear that while the #01 was trying to maintain the lead, he made a mistake, but it didn't seem worthy of a penalty. In fact, what did they penalize him for, intentionally ramming another driver? Why would a DP car even bother to take out a GT car in the first place? Plus, even if they penalized him for aggressive driving, I still find that unnecessary due to the fact that he was fighting to keep the lead. It seemed more like a racing incident.

Agree, his eyes were in the mirrors and just lost track of the Audi. Complete racing incident. As for Angelleli, dirty and no room for that in racing.

What Angelleli did was cheap. Also, when that Mazda was pulling out into the chicane and crashed the DP car, that was really stupid.....

I wouldn't say he "crashed the DP car". The #10 Suntrust DP car pulled under the Mazda, and the Mazda came down on him. In the end, the Mazda spins itself out, and the DP car pulls away practically undamaged (He didn't even flat spot the tires).

Also, I forgot to mention how stunned I was at how instantly the Michael Shank #60 DP came to a stop when it hit the grass mound. It looked as if he would simply end up cutting the chicane through the grass, but then his car went from what I estimated to be about 40 MPH to a dead stop in absolutely no time at all. It was as if he hit an invisible wall.

Very impressed with both class winners, Spirit of Daytona has always been kind of an underdog, so I'm glad to see them win, and I'm sure GM was to after the Fords completely wiped the Vettes at Daytona. The Speedsource Mazda although not an underdog, deserved that win, having met both John Bomartio and Sylvain Tremblay at Watkins Glen last summer, I can honestly say the team and both drivers were very passionate about racing and are very nice people, congrats to them. Also a good performance by the FXDD Ferrari, even with it's tire issues it managed to hold off Magnus and Brumos(my team). I look forward to Miami.
