I didn't even know you're able to play AC in VR on PC?! Silly me still thinking GT Sport on PSVR might be the next big thing... :boggled:
I never really felt anything about VR. Assetto Corsa is the only game I play. I don't pay attention to gaming news or anything game related besides sim racing games. From what I've been seeing in videos, however, it does look pretty freaking awesome. I don't know if I would get motion sickness, or whatever they call it, but I'd love to try it and find out. :D

You should, try it and find out, I did and it is awesome, not motion thickness what so ever with a steady 75fps, which is not hard to get on my DK2, VR is a revelation if you are into immersion, those gorgeous Assetto Corsa cockpit interiors take a whole new dimension (pun intentended) when you suddenly find yourself virtually inside the cars in 3D.
You have not virtually driven a F1 until you drove it in VR.

For most, like me, there is a before and an after VR experience for SIM enthousiast.

I would love to try it. I would love to try triple monitors too. :D I was more inclined to say that I would prefer a triple monitor setup over VR a few months back. I'll admit, my naivete with VR led me to that decision. I didn't do much research on it, but I remember seeing awfully corny, ridiculously low-end graphics "games" where it looked like you just follow a linear path and yada yada yada, it looked awfully rubbish to me.

Having seen what it can actually do with something like a driving/racing sim turned me around 180 degrees. I was very, very impressed. Well, at least by the videos because I, of course, have not actually put a VR headset on. It's impossible for me to give a definitive opinion until I try it. However, I'm very nervous about buying a VR headset solely for Assetto Corsa. I don't play any other games - I have no interest in playing any other games.

It's not even necessarily the cost (although, I am in quite a financial pinch at the moment) but it sort of is. I think for someone like me, who's only going to use it for 1 game and is in worse financial shape right now since I was 21 years old, I'm sure they will vastly improve the technology, so maybe I should wait and get the next generation VR headsets. Maybe that's more naivete on my part. Like I said, I haven't really researched them. I couldn't tell you a single difference between the two leading VR headsets...Heck, I don't even remember the name of one of 'em.. Oculus Rift, I'm pretty sure...and ... See? :D

But, if anyone wants to bring their VR headset to my house and let me try theirs, I'd be more than willing to put you up for the night. As long as you don't suffer from night terrors or turn into a blood sucking creature at night. Those types aren't welcome.

@ALB123 it might be more affordable than you think, what I have done is buy a used DK2, at the equivalent of Greg's list, I tried it with LFS because that was all my old PC could muster. Worst case scenario in case it would have been not what I expected, I could have sold it back at probably no loss.
I was blown away, so I put together a CV1 ready rig, except for the GPU, I kept mine as it does a good job with the DK2, I might wait for CV2, to upgrade my GPU as their is a rapid evolution in that field and the experience with the DK2 is excellent.
Seeing video of VR to have an idea of VR is like seeing a video of someone drinking wine and trying to imagine what it is like drinking wine, LOL.
Me too, all I "play" (almost) is AC.

Thanks for the reply...I have a lot to learn about VR. What the DK2, CV1, CV2? Are those just different models of the Oculus Rift? Or the HTC one? Ugh...I can't remember it's name. :banghead:

I think my laptop could run a VR headset, but I don't know for sure and I don't know how well it could run it. If I have to turn down graphics settings, it wouldn't be worth it to me.

The laptop specs are:
i7-5700HQ (2.7Ghz, I think)
16GB RAM (not sure on the speed/latency)
2x GeForce GTX 965M in SLI
2x SSD's but I don't run RAID.
Windows 10 Crap Edition

I just got this thing last year...so I definitely don't want to replace it, though I could upgrade the video cards, I believe. The next computer to power my sims will probably be a desktop machine so I can build it myself with the components I want. But that's gonna be quite some time from now. I had to go with the laptop because of my current situation which leaves me with limited space. :grumpy:

Oh, I'm sure that the YouTube videos don't do VR justice at all. That's what has me so intrigued. If it impresses me just by video, I'm sure it would blow me away if I were to actually try it myself. I'm sure the immersion factor increases quite a bit. :D

@ALB123 your laptop is fine but not sure about your GPU as SLI is not implemented in VR. And since it is a lap top I do not know how easy it is for you to upgrade. Oculus Rift Developper Kit 2, was just what the name implied but a lot of non developper bought one as a gate way to VR, when Consumer Version 1 came out many upgraded, creating a good use market for DK2. CV1 is a better DK2, but DK2 will let you know if you are going yo enjoy VR and can be very satisfactory.

Ahhh... Thank you for explaining what DK and CV mean. :) Supposedly, this model MSI laptop can remove/replace GPU's, but I would be limited to something that has the same approx dimensions, I think... I don't know if all mobile GPU's follow a size standard or something. But if it doesn't support SLI I think I would be screwed. One 965M wouldn't be too good. When I ordered this thing last year I almost ordered it with two 980M's instead...it was a pretty big price jump and I was already spending more than I wanted. Oh well...I'm sure I'll eventually get there. :P

To be honest, I'm not as excited about the 3 Porsche Pack's as I thought I would be. Maybe I'm just getting spoiled or something. :D I like driving street cars 10x as much as I drive race cars. I know...I know...It's supposed to be a racing game. Well, I like to race with my street cars! :P I would have preferred a couple of more older street 911s. It appears that Porsche really wanted to push its 2017 line of cars with the Cayman's & Boxster's. Of course, I can't blame them for that. Heck, they approached Kunos to partner up on Kunos' Assetto Corsa Pro, so of course they're going to want the new 2017 models. I get that.

Do we have anything in the same class to compete against the incoming 911 GT1? How about the old school Porsche 718 Spyder RS?

I don't mind single make races. In fact, I do a LOT of them. Often, I'll do a 21 car race with 3 different makes, 7 per. Even a two make race is fun! :) Oh yeah...and 2 versions of the 919? Bleh...:yuck:  I know, there are plenty of people excited about that. I'm not the only person in the world...blah blah blah. :sly: :P

McLaren F1 GTR.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are from different years and the specs are different enough that they may not be too competitive. I seem to remember this being discussed on the AC forums.

Maybe, I only know both cars competed in GT1. We'll see.

I'm just going off my foggy memory but I think they were a few years apart and we know a few years in that kind of racing can mean very different specs (hence why we're getting the '15 and '16 919 LMP1). I could be wrong though, hopefully they're well matched.

Ugh...Anyone waiting on the Red Pack? You can have mine! I've had it with the G/D Maserati's. Trying to drive the 250F 12-cylinder and I wanted to setup a nice, cold, late fall session around Brands Hatch, so I set Temp to 0...Air: 0 degrees C Track: 0 degrees C. I am practically dripping in sweat trying to keep this thing on the track. Grip set to Fast, but I only got 96% :( Going down Hawthorne Hill, or whatever its called, if I put my foot to the floor in 4th gear at 95 mph the rear end gets squirrely! I know I set crazy cold conditions...but I've got my tires nice and warm. This thing just wants to kill me. :banghead: The first couple of laps...jesus...I can't believe how many times the rear wanted to come around on me. I probably pushed my luck a couple of times in such cold conditions, but still... This car car drives me nuts. I much prefer the 6 cylinder. Well, except for Monza. Then the 12 cylinder is alright.

Who races in 0º? :odd: I've never quite understood this fascination with super cold track temps that a lot of people use. Most racing takes part in the warm months of the year so it doesn't make sense to me to set the track for winter conditions.
