Just a thought (one some people might get a bit angry at me for), but:

Looking at Spec 2.0, I can't believe it has taken PD a full year to get that stuff done. I mean, I know they're not known for doing their work fast (or on time)... But, Would I be the only one who'd be suprised if they were done months ago and just held Spec 2.0 back to coincide with FM4's launch?

You act like that's the only thing in SPEC 2.0 or most wanted thing. That was just for the people who complained about no interiors in standards. It says itself Generic Interior for standards like PSP, because people wanted it.

It's a manual actualization 👍

I'm joking friend.

@LUMINIS

That is possible. I think it's a mixture. And they possibly told themeselves, we can either update in pieces or have one big clear update around Forza 4 release. I mean there also has been 4or5 maintenance updates in the past month assumingly to prepare for this.

@EVIAN

:)

If they did than they are stupid on top of being poorly managed.

1) Forza is on a different system.

2) Patches/Updates don't sell games.

The only way they would really effect each other is if each released a main title on the same day.

Wow Justin you are desperate. If you think it's a stupid move business wise you're absolutely wrong, as Forza did the same thing last year. It makes perfect sense in a business model. It's not even that big of a deal, it's something that's understood.

I just noticed something. There's a lot of complaint about how slow the screen changes are in GT5. That might be fixed or improved in this update.

"Improved User Interface Response"

1) Forza is on a different system.
Lots of people own both systems.

2) Patches/Updates don't sell games.
They keep the player's interest on their own product. It may not sell games, but it might keep competitors from selling games.

Simply put, I just can't beliebe that it's coincidence that some of the features that have been asked for for almost a full year are implemented on the exact same day FM4 iss released.

2006 Honda Raybrig NSX. This is the 2010-Present Honda entrant for the GT500 Super GT class. Named the Honda HSV-10GT

Cool deal, thank you for the correction.

This is by far the most significant update I think. I wonder how much time i've spent staring at loading screens.

???

And how did FM3UC effect GT5 sales? Not much and that was a re release(as in it was advertised outside of fan sites).

This 2.0 update will effect nothing as IT'S NOT EVEN ADVERTISED OUTSIDE OF SITES LIKE THIS(which is really only visited by major fans at this point) AND IS FOR A GAME ON A DIFFERENT CONSOLE.

I think people really like to overstate the rivalry of GT and Forza, they aren't even direct competitors outside lame arguments on the internet.

I also didn't say it was a stupid business move, I said PD would be stupid to hold a major patch back just to coincide with a game release on a different platform. It's an extremely stupid move to hold something from your fans so you can make a non-impact on some other consoles game(even if they have both consoles they likely have already made up their mind whether or not to but FM4).

For the record, I spent $100 on GT5CE and still play it almost on a weekly basis.

But it will just sound like this. :sly:

I disagree. You only get Generic sounds from the Semi-Racing and Racing exhaust on GT5. With the Sports and stock exhausts the car sounds somewhat like real life. To me your saying that every car in GT5 sounds the same. I might just have to correct you if this is the case.

I don't think they're stupid... i remember Forza doing a very similar thing with the release of the UCE/Topgear DLC around the same time of the release of GT5.. i bought the UCE even though i had the LCE from the original release, just so i could have the extra cars... (won the TG DLC through comp), so i guess that kind of approach worked on me :)

Guessing you would have bought it had it released any other time though, right?

And you only bought it because it released around the same time as GT5 and you didn't buy GT5 right?

?? From googling, I see the TG Stig DLC was available Oct 26th, GT5 was released Nov 24th..

I don't like aggressive marketing like this, it can spiral out of control and it's not in the consumers best interest..

But it's not a huge deal, more smacks of despiration then anything else, I'd have expected MS to have done this kind of thing being the underdog so to speak..

Every company, Sony included, has aggressive marketing. It's by no means exclusive to Microsoft, or the game industry as a whole even.

Yeah probably... thing is, now GT are planning to release this update on the 11th, i'm seriously considering delaying my purchase of FM4.. i downloaded the demo today and TBH i really can't see what all the fuss is about with regards to the new graphics and physics... it's all just a very slight improvement over FM3 for me personally, and before some assume that i'm a GT fanboy.. let me assure you i'm not (i'm a fairly well accomplished painter.. and i do really enjoy the Forza franchise) but all in all i think i'll just enjoy the GT update until i find out more about FM4.. probably rent it TBH rather than rushing in as i have done in the past.

I think your to much in your small box homie. It's business by microeconomics to effect the macro. It's the way the business world works.

An underdog? It's only the top selling computer software selling company in the world. They are by no means the underdog. Although Windows is horrible. So horrible in fact that they sue Samsung for copyright infringement but then make sure to have a segment in the agreement that Samsung has to help design the new Windows phones. Just proves that they can't make anything properly and have to resort to aggressive tactics to make their own product better.

Do you need to bring in completely unrelated points to all your posts? First the Apple keynote and now this.

Lawsuits for patent infringement are by no means a new thing or exclusive to Microsoft. Apple for example has been in a state of constant war for the last few years, filing lawsuits and receiving lawsuits in return with a number of companies over patent stealing accusations.

Yeah it probably was nearly a whole month prior to GT (but still probably marketed to counteract the upcoming release)
I suppose in some respects it can be seen as aggressive marketing... but it can work, desperate.. maybe, but really i suppose in both cases (FM & GT) ultimately rather than to steal sales it's more just to prolong the life of the title if anything.

Sounds like you played the demo and didn't like it and don't view it worth buying and the GT5 update really doesn't have a whole lot to do with it actually.(I do agree that it doesn't feel very different than FM3)

If this were a re-release of GT5 we were discussing you would have a point, it's not though. It's an update for a year old game, it's not going to be running in Kevin Butler ads, it's not going to be listed next to FM4 in store flyers and chances are big game sites aren't going to give it more than a listing on the game page itself.

People on sites like this may think it's some huge world stopping event that will disrupt everything but like I said, outside of fan sites patches don't get any press therefor don't sell any copies of a game(except for maybe 1 or 2 that sold it and are re-purchasing it).

Yes you would be. The better proposition will be that they considered releasing it at the end of October but decided to release it early to coincide with FM4's launch.
