GT5 delayed

Come on people, PD delaying a game a few weeks before release seems either like a marketing issue or a supply issue. I'm sure it'll be released near the end of November or start of December time, and in that time I can occupy myself with obtaining trophies for all the games I own.

It won't be so bad after all.

Oh, and we all say that we're cancelling orders etc etc, but I bet when it arrives there'll be alot of happy gamers, like myself.

I hope they don't miss out on too many sales.

To be honest I couldn't care less about the sales figures, would serve them well if there's a significant drop in sales due to this.
Maybe it's an unforeseen problem they just stumbled upon just before going gold but after Kaz said there would definitely be no more delays after the "final" release date was announced this is just hilarious ( and a monumental cock-up ).
If this game was developed within, say 2 years, I would accepted this much more easily than the situation of having 6 years and a huge budget to spend developing.

Yes the game will be great and yes PD are 'masters' in creating the stuff we like but planning, managing expectations and proper communication or choice of words definitely isn't their strong suit.
Whatever the reason ( even when in itself perfectly excusable in another context ) this is just a big fail, so if there's a drop in sales ( which I doubt ) they have themselves to blame for not calculating unforeseen errors into the timetable.
Can't believe either that this is a Sony marketing decision, not because that would be far too cynical to pull off ( because they would if it would increase sales ) but because it doesn't make sense as GT5 is relying on total sales during a long lifespan, not short term hype.

In short, meh.
Guess I might be buying another game in the meantime after all.

This is all just a joke from one end to another! I will buy GT5, but I will never ever believe a release date from PD again! So they might aswell keep the release date to themselves.

I've been wondering why I haven't heard news of GT5 going 'gold' yet. In order to hit a Nov. 2nd release date, they would have needed to been burning Blu-Ray copies for a couple of weeks now. They are going to need a minimum of 5-6 weeks to have a decent number of copies available at launch.

The delays are expected with Polyphony Digital. But when it comes less than 3 weeks from the stated release date, they run the risk of alienating fans. People end up feeling like they're being jerked around. Obviously PD isn't doing this for fun, but there is a limit to people's patience - even hardcore fans.

I am on the fence about this one. Obviously I am disappointed/angry/crying but also I am not.

Some of you keep saying about how they just patch the games after release to fix things. I remember when they built games correctly the first time. Just because it can be patched these days doesn't mean the developers should release a broken game. It means they can be lazy. That's worse to me. I want it to be complete. I don't want to buy a broken game to have it fixed later. We have waited for too long on this game though. I couldn't believe we were this close and they pull a LBP on us lol. I was going to hold off on Black Ops but I guess I can get it now...

Software issues came up when the discs where supposed to be in manufacturing? Riiight
I wasn't aware that you were privy to such inside information. Please, since you know so much about the development process even though Sony never announced any of it, can you tell me the exact date that the pressing of discs started? What about the day that the QA was finished and that the game went gold? Maybe the date that the paper booklets and manuals were printed up?

Sony sheep

It gives me more time to save my money for the PS3 and of course, GT5 which is the only game I'll playing on a console.

After the F2010 fiasco which applies to all version including the PC, I completely understand PD decision.

Absolutely correct - this is not a software issue. Also this is not a KY not being happy issue - he gave up the right to be happy or otherwise when he signed over the gold release. This is marketing and/or production issue. The fact that they're lying about KY not being happy with it leads me to think it's production, since marketing would have been settled on the release date probably 6 months ago if not more.

Basically Sony are having problems pressing the disks or getting them into boxes or something along those lines. But the game will be delayed well beyond those issues being resolved since marketing will then look for the next "perfect release window" which won't be happening anytime this year.

I would be angry but this has been happening for years now. I'm all angered out. If and when it comes out I'll prolly love it but if my new ps3 dies of old age in the meantime I'll be replacing it with one of those Microsoft consoles - you know the one that has a driving game on it? Hurry up PD - you only have about another 3 or four years to get this out the door or you'll be down a customer

i wonder if any PD reps are on here reading this LOL

many people will not be mad and be completely understanding if PD was to tell us why the delay and if they would give us more info on the full game.

in other news... pre-orders for Call of Duty and Medal of Honor have sky rocketed :embarrassed:

"holiday season" means "we don't know." Either way for those who cancelled their pre-orders, particularly the Collectors Editions and Signature Editions, congrats, your incredible stupidity just gave someone who couldn't get them before another chance. Good job

Well I told my friend last week that I would rather have GT5 delayed or Fallout NV delayed just as long as my mom who has cancer is ok. I think this is a sign she’s going to get better which as far as i can tell she is.

You know, this puts a lot into perspective. Best wishes to you and your family, hope your mom is doing alright.

I just laughed (a lot) when I heard this news, i've got used to it so i'm a only a little annoyed. It gives me more time to enjoy Need For Speed Hot Pursuit and Forza 3 anyway. :)

On related news, T10 are on an all-nighter, willing to ship three new releases in the mean time. Expect three wheeled Ferraris, no drivers seats in some cars (ah, an FM2 throwback!) and an online mode that makes you hopping mad. Still, at least you get to play it!

Last month my 40GB Dies. Plan was to buy the GT5 Bundle to replace my console and now I have to wait even longer for it. So will now be GT5'less & PS3'less until December/January. This is so disappointing. Shame on Sony if they're simply doing this for Marketing purposes. This is really disappointing news. I know the game will be worth the wait but this I beleive the real reasons of this delay lie within Sony's Marketing Teams across the World...

If they would do a global launch three weeks from now, they would have to be. I know a little about manufactering of cd`s/music discs/distribution in europe...this is worldwide. Chances are they would need more than three weeks from going gold actually. The reason here was that PD wanted to perfect the racing experience. It would have been way out of PD`s hands.

But this is no surprise, they did exactly the same with the japanese launch. Kaz sat in an interview two/three weeks before launch confirming the launch date in march. Lies, lies lies. There you have it.

In case you're wondering, I would like a bit of proof regarding the above statements of fact.

@davuts

I can't believe I was angry over a delay of a game, cmon guys. Forget about it, its just a game, life is more important, Ive spent the last few weeks glued to these forums when I could've been doing work or something.

That was lame bro. There's a good reason why Forza 3 has an average higher rating than GT1/2/4, its a damn good racing game. If you dont like it then good for you, but you arent convincing anyone that it sucks.

It only took 2 years to build, and for me personally, its better than every GT game ive ever played, and im a big GT fan, owned every game on release day.

On the contrary: I am the one to talk. I am perfectly okay with the game being delayed. I've created programs in the past. I know how there are always things that you can't account for that can take forever to fix. All in all, I'm at peace with this game's delay, and actually a bit relieved for various reasons. I'm also at peace with the people who have been expressing disappointment with the game being delayed.

And yet you're arguing with me. Unless of course I'm not expressing my disappointment with the game being delayed.

What I cannot live with is various groups of ignorant people standing up on soapboxes and bitching about things they don't understand ("So what if PD ran into problems with the game? That doesn't make a difference. I want it on November 2nd!"), simply because they feel that they have a right to play the game by their terms. These two issues are completely distinct.

Oh stop it. Everyone is ignorant, and complaining is a normal reaction. Are you saying that the people who are disappointed didn't want the game to be released on November 2? I'll still buy the game when it comes out. Of course I want the game on November 2. Even if I'm bitching about wanting it on November 2 still wont make a difference, so I don't get why it's an issue to you for me to be complaining about it anyway.

I'm simply saying to not brag and tease the audience with a release a date when there are still problems with the game. If the original release date was on December, I wouldn't have problems with it since the game will be completed at that time. And if they fail to do that by the release date, then it's on them, and people will put the blame on them. It's making a promise and proceeding to break it.

That's what I'm saying. If they say that they're going to release it on November 2, then release it on November 2. If not, then don't bring up November 2 in the first place, but put it on December, or next year or whenever. They failed to create space for error, and they're the one to blame. People complaining about it will be a natural reaction and a way to release their disappointment, no matter what they complain about or how ignorant they are. They don't need you, or anyone else, to protect them from this fact. I think they're mature enough to handle it.

The word gutted when I read this news is an understatement. However I do a theory why this might be the case.

Yesterday I posted a comment in the general discussion thread about a GT5 demo and how PSN plus hasn't been a huge success. I said in this thread that Sony have missed an opportunity because they should of released a GT5 demo for PSN plus members only. As the price of PSN plus (£39.99) is the same as retail games it would of been like selling GT5 twice!

So the delay MIGHT be due to Sony wanting to take full advantage of GT5 and use this to increase the number of subscribers to PSN plus. Im sure many would pay for this if it mean't playing the GT5 demo.

I'll give you a clue why I'm called GT5 Sceptic and it isn't because I didn't enjoy FM3 immensely. I just thought the GT fans could do with a pick-me-up after this bad news.

I'm a racing game fan, so any big release is on my radar. I am a massive FM3 fanboy though, but I can contain myself quite well.

Unbelievable...will the game ever reach our ps3's? I know it's just a game but jeeeze this is silly now. It will probably get out that it will be 2012 until final release.

wait... paying for a demo... that sounds a lot like... what was that game called???

OHHHHH YEA!!! it was Gran Turismo 5: Prologue

Well, now that's a mess...
One delay is totally understandable.... two, ok.
Now this, after 5 years of wait, 3 weeks from the release date... and not giving any explanations, or new date. That's rubbish.
It's not the end of the world, ok, but I'm not buying my ps3 yet... Not until it is released for real.
Any new dates given won't be credible, believable; in economics is what's called "moral hazard".

I like many others have pre-ordered the game. Normally, the odd delay here and there doesn't bother me.This however is becoming unbelievable frustrating.

The fact of the matter is, this game is not going to be perfect and for Yamauchi to pursue this unobtainable perfection is delusion on a grand scale. How can a game be pefect when the bulk of the car models are updated ports from GT4 with GT5 physics. If he wants perfection - how about scrapping the current rendition of GT5 altogether, creating all car models to GT5 premium standards, and make it a game for the for PS4 since GT5 is "more suited to the next generation of machines" anyway. This of course is a vicious circle, since Yamauchi will strive to obtain the same perfection he cannot achieve with the next in the series.

There's nothing wrong with wanting your creation to be the best it can be, but Yamauchi firmly crossed the line between perfectionist and anally retentive a few delays ago.
