Today I noticed again what racecar drivers mean, when they say something like:
When you see an opportunity you don't think, you just go for it.

no hard feelings Ren-Tec:tup:

What a strange explanation from a GTP fair member :odd:

What a strange explanation from a GTP fair member :odd:

I was in the race. No rules were broken with the tactic.

As mentioned, some have used gentleman's agreements, but that needs to be agreed to up front and documented.

Sauber-F1 did nothing contrary to our OLR rules. The rules address that a racer may make one move while driving on the straight, and then return to the line at the end of the straight. If he had been weaving all over the place to follow the draft of the other racer, that would be a different story.

As it sits, with the rules that were agreed to in advance, he won the race - Fair and square.

GTP_Hyperspeed vs GTP_DustDriver

Not much to say.
Both had our 2 pit stops done, going into lap 5.
At this point Dan was in the lead with 4 or 5 seconds.

Going into lap 6 I pitted again, because I really had to go the toilet, and so lost the race.

Yep Clear EDK I trust you, No doubt 👍

I was just pointing out the rude aspect of his answer to Ren Tec ;)

so,Timo and i raced the decider of who whas going into the final of our devision tonight....:nervous:...

After a few misconnects we headed of in our race and Timo got the better start from pole and whas in the lead for the whole first lap...i followed closely, didn't whant to push immediately because i know his speed and thought best thing to do is not make any mistakes and just be in his slipstream after the last corner before start/finish.....

however,Timo dived into the pits in lap 1 and so no slipstream available....:)

i did a perfect lap 2 and also pitted immediately than...
after we both did our pitstops i found myself in the lead with about 3/4 seconds advantage over Timo...i whas amazed by this and felt the heartbeat earthquacking thru my playseat...:scared:
From this moment on it whas do or die!!!i knew if i could maintain low 42' laps i had a chance of being first at the finishline before Timo would have a chance to catch my slipstream ,but i also knew that if i would make just one little mistake Timo would be all over me...
So i did manage to get laps in..first 42,5...than 42.7....than again 42.7...and than while screaming to myself not to push,i did a 42,8 and Timo whas only 1,5 seconds behind me in the last lap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....
i allready had the image of being overtaken just before the finishline flashing through my head and whas feeling all kinds of tentions.......
but,i somehow managed to keep my act together and did a allmost perfect last half of the lap and could maintain the lead an won!!!!!

Timo said afterwards he had some trouble with a idiot standing still in the pits entrance and that is a shame...but,i also encountered some guy who parked his ferrari f40 in the middle of turn 3(the fast righthander...)and had to make a death swerve to avoid him and not crashing out...i think i even scratched his rear wing going sideways with 200km/h!!!!

so there you go,amazing driving, amazing laptimes(especially from Timo...👍)and some better luck for me....:dopey:...

cheers Timo for the excitement...better luck next time my friend..👍👍👍

Good write up spyrrari. I thought you got knocked out in second round ?:odd:

This race took place at the request of Timppaq. He was paired with a racer that withdrew in the first week and then had a bye in the second week. It was set up so that he would be racing for the class championship without having run a race. (No fault of his own).

I arranged his race to be with Spyrrari, since he was the last participating D1 Gold driver to be knocked out. It wouldn't have made sense to have him race MeAgainstYou, since that would be the equivalent of running the class championship a round early.

More details to come on how we will handle the next round of pairings for D1 gold. It was a little messy, with just 6 original participants, but one loss, one withdrawal and 1 DQ in week 1.

Im really confused. Many people entered this competition, knowing that they lose they are out of the tournament. Spyrrari gets knocked out in round 2 and gets reinstated, isnt that unfair ?

@ Spyrrari. I havent got nothing against you.

Im really confused. Many people entered this competition, knowing that they lose they are out of the tournament. Spyrrari gets knocked out in round 2 and gets reinstated, isnt that unfair ?

@ Spyrrari. I havent got nothing against you.

I think there are a few main points that can be taken out of this that clear it up a bit:

1) The original draws were made entirely at random
2) There were 6 competitors in D1 gold, but one got disqualified (GTP_Bollocks) and one withdrew (GTP_D.Holland), leaving 2 people without a pairing.
3) The remaining pairing in D1 gold raced so one person got eliminated (GTP_PrudentBear).
4) This left 3 people, Spyrrari, MeAgainstYou and Timppaq.
5) Next round pairings are again decided by random draw, as a result Timppaq had no partner (3 competitors remember)

Basically that would have all put Timppaq in the D1 gold final without having run a single race, and he wasn't comfortable with that I guess. After all what does a D1 gold driver have to gain? There's no promotion. Only the opportunity to race equal drivers and have a great experience with someone who will push them all the way. Not many drivers can do that to Timo.

I guess this was discussed in private with MeAgainstYou, Timo and Spyrrari by the organisers and they came to this conclusion.

I don't think this situation will arise elsewhere because in D1 there weren't that many competitors to begin with and then despite that they suffered withdrawals and DQs.

That's my attempt at an explanation anyway

All the best

Im really confused. Many people entered this competition, knowing that they lose they are out of the tournament. Spyrrari gets knocked out in round 2 and gets reinstated, isnt that unfair ?

@ Spyrrari. I havent got nothing against you.

The idea behind this tournament was to crown champions on 3 levels.

1. Class Champions. D1 Gold, D1, Silver, D1 Bronze, etc.

2. Division Champions - Overall D1-D5.

3. Overall Champion - Winner of races among the division winners.

Some classes have SIGNIFICANTLY more racers than others. And, we had several racers withdraw from the event, along with some DQ's. That meant I had some racers make it all the way to the class championship without ever having won a race.

Timppaq came to me and asked to be paired for a race before the class championship. He did not think it was fair for him to be in the class championship without ever having run a race. I asked Spyrrari if he would be OK with running against Timppaq. He agreed.

Once Spyrrari beat Timppaq, I gave MeAgainstYou the option of either running another race against Spyrrari (Who did lose one race, but has also won 2) for the class championship, or being declared the class champion since he was the only D1 gold driver that did not withdraw, was not DQ'd and did not lose a race. MeAgainstYou has agreed to run the second race against Spyrrari, in a different combo that will be set up for that round, following the updates.

As you can see, this was a unique sitation, and really only impacted these drivers in D1 gold, since only same class drivers will be paired up until the division championship round. All of the drivers involved in this situation agreed to it. I think you would agree, if Spyrrari is able to win all of his other races until the end of the event, he will certainly have earned his way there, having to run 4 races against top talent in divison 1, along with the best driver out of the 4 lower divisions.

In a perfect world, we would have the same number of drivers across the different classes and everyone who signs up would participate, and not cheat. But we were faced with some difficult circumstances and I involved the participants in making what I think were the best decisions under the circumstances.

Any other questions, issues, or concerns, please comment further.

I understand the rules of the competition. I just dont understand why a driver who got knocked out, get's reinstated the following round. I mean l cant remember the rules stating anything to do with reinstating a driver, who got knocked out in the previous round.

And I explained what happened in this special circumstance, an exception.

Timpaqq was scheduled for a bye and asked for a race, or to withdraw.

What we have is some drivers who really just wanted to run some races, and I did not have many from their class to put them with.

I guess I could have just let him withdraw, and that would have made you happy. To have MeAgainstYou be the champion of D1 gold without having to run a race in that round.

Well, I left that decision up to him. He also decided he would rather race then be crowned the champion without racing.

I think we have some stand up guys in that class, and I tried to work with them and accommodate.

I don't think this has a big impact on any racers, other than Timppaq and MAY, do you?

All the drivers have agreed amongst themselves and importantly MAY for spyrarri taking part again. This was probably the best way of solving this little problem. Imagine Fuzzy you being in Timo's place, would you want to win the easy way like what he was facing or racing in each round and progressing along and winning it.

If your still not happy mate how would you have done it?

Congratulations and good luck for the next round buddy. 👍 The race didn't go as I had planned, mainly due to my unconsistent laps. After the pitstops I was amazed by the gap between us, but knew that there was 6 laps to close the gap. It was close but two not so good laps did it for me and I couldn't catch up. So basically I found myself in a hole after the second pitstop, but I should have been able to pull myself out of there. That wasn't the case yesterday and now I can relax and enjoythe rest of the competition as a spectator..

the race:

1.I get the lead and manage to keep good pace. Coming out of the hairpin I see spyrrari ghosting and dropping behind. I lift the gas and wait for a few secs.
I got to pits. (waiting was my decision and didn't affect the outcome of the race)

2. Lap in free air don't go very well and laptime should have been better.. I guess I'm no Shumacher :P Spyrrari pits.

3. My chance. Now I have to hit perfect lap.. and coming out of the first corner there is a black evo, not ghosting, on the very exit on the corner and sitting in the centre if my driving line. The worst happen and I just bumb into him.. :yuck: ..by looking at the T2 time, I've lost about 3sec and can see spyrrari very close to me... After the lap I go pitting.

4. Spyrrari pits and I hit an ok lap. At this point I think that this isn't looking too good as spyrrari was almost behind me when I went to pits 2nd time.

After the pittings had been done it was me faar behind and it was clear that I would have to nail every lap to get back on race.. Get a few very fast laps, but there was 2 I think that wasn't good enough and so the race ended one lap too early for me. :ouch:

The race was anyway very thrilling and fun. 👍 I You really can see how the tension does make tricks to your consentration and pace. And I'm very glad and thankful that Kevin (EDK) gave me the opportunity to get a race at this point, and as we all know now, I wouldn't have earned the place to be in the class champs. 💡

As always the best man wins.. once again, good luck to the next round spyrrari.

I cant really do anything as I'm not a GTP Race Admin, and not even the Steward for this competition. Kevin is the Steward and he makes the decisions, and if the entrants dont like the rules then they should not have entered the competition. And all of a sudden, the participants are making the matches ? I respect Timo's attitude wanting to race instead of a bye.

I mean I would fully understand if a late replacement came in to face Timo, but reinstating a driver who's tasted defeat in the previous round, Im sorry but I disagree with that. That decision alone, could play a big factor in the remaining rounds, for example. What would people think if Spyrrari won the tournament ? A person who lost but was given a second chance.

I've entered every WRS and both of the GTP Race Events. The reasons, I like competiting with other GTP Members, well organised tournaments and also because of fairness. I feel the decision is unfair on all the competitors who are knocked out.

What is there to think? If he'd win the final, don't you think he's then deserved to be the winner? Why he was picked up, is already been told. Who should I raced against then? Or do you think it would have been better if I just didn't race at all? This was just a race for the spot I had given without any effort. I didn't like that and we all agreed to have a race for the spot. No big deal imo.

..a person who lost but was given a second chance.
There was a need for one guy to be given a second chance, so one had to be chosen, and I think the reasoning that made EDK give the spot to spyrrari was very well-founded.

No.. I sacrificed my granted spot and there really was no other choice than spyrrari to give the chance. There was no point for me to be in the competition without running a single race and then being given a freeride to div champ race. I admit, I put Kevin in a bad situation, and maybe I shouldn't done that but I did. And from the two options he chosed to allow one extra race and me being the other racer, there wasn't any other reasonable choice than spyrrari to be the racer against me, eh? So Kevin has made everything in his power to keep it reasonable & fair.

cheers Timo, whas an absolute thriller without actually having superclose racing in it...once again shows what a great game this is....and having read Amar's news in the gt5 thread,it will only get better...

about the pitstops,i can say one whas quick, the second one whas the best entry and exit(first corner after exit)i ever did...i guess thats what tension also does...the adrenaline can make you do things you can't normally and also can make you "overdrive" yourself...:)...

i really loved the challange Timo, and i know we will have many more great battles in the future...👍

I've intentionally kept this conversation in the forum available to all participants in an effort to keep the process transparent to all.

However, I'm not sure that the conversation is productive at this point. We understand your side of it. You understand our side.

As I've mentioned several times in several areas, this is the first time we've tried to take on an event of this scale, and to some degree, we are learning as we go.

I appreciate and value your input, we are not trying to run you off here.

And I'm not sure there is anything more that can be said.

And I'm not sure there is anything more that can be said.

Well, being a non-participant in the event (but, as a spectator, very interested in it) I feel I need to say two more things:

1 - Timpaq is not only a great racer, he is also a great guy and I fully understand that he requested to race and not be "given" direct access to the finals in his D1 Gold class.

2 - MAY is also a great racer and a great guy by not objecting to this.

3 - In my opinion, you took the right decision, and you took it the way you should, meaning, with full and previous consent (sp?) of all drivers concerned.

Great job you're doing in this EDK, keep it up.

👍

+1 👍
