Now that the brouhaha over the choice of cars and tracks is over, I want to bring it up again. I think the Admins did a great job in both the track selection and the car selection for those tracks.
Not having the skill building challenges in GT6 like we had in GT5, it left them with quite a challenge. The Mercedes challenge in GT5 was a great qualifier, but the only thing close in GT6 is the Vettle challenge or the different Good Wood events on that horribly short track. There are of course several Super License tests that would have served well, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the selections they made.
That being said, I'll give my thoughts on my struggles with the qualifier. What I liked about the GT5 tests was the fact that we had a benchmark set for certain levels. There were Gold, Silver, and Bronze times to shoot for. Granted, these benchmarks had no correlation to the level we ended up in, but at least you had some idea of how well you were doing.
If you did any seasonals at all in GT5, when you ran the test and you were .1 second ahead of Gold, you pretty much knew you were not going to be ranked very high. A time like that would put down in the 50,000th or so. If you ran it 5 to 6 full seconds ahead of Gold then you knew you were cooking a fairly decent time that just might be worth submitting.
Why am I bringing this up? To those guys that are submitting early, I believe you need to re-think your strategy (unless of course you are one of the aliens). I have no idea of how well I am doing. There is no benchmark. There are no friends ghosts. There is only me and an empty track ahead. I think I have reached my limit, but I have bettered my time by a few thousands on a few occasions after I thought I could go no faster. I will keep trying until the deadline before I submit.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank EDK, Gravitron, MadMax86, Sjaak, Vaxen, WRP001 and anyone else I have forgot to mention for putting this all together.
