Howdy Y'all! I'm back, again, and this time I actually plan on running the WRS every week if I can, I've simplified my life so I should have more time for this :). I too am loving these combos, that Beemer sure teaches partial throttle control! Thanks Kev for all your hard work, you da man .

Great to see you again buddy!

I have decided I won't be in the first batch of division results. I'm getting my CSR Elite wheel fixed/upgraded so it'll be a while before I can compete again. The wife wanted me to return my G27, so I did. I can't wait to try the Megane combo.

I'm considering giving up on Brands Hatch. I've probably got half a second or so of potential improvement, but it is utterly impossible to drive the BMW fast consistently. Several times now I've been up a tenth or more, only to either skid off at the next corner, or take the corner cautiously and lose several tenths.

To be brutally honest, driving the BMW (at least with the stock tune) is just not fun, which completely kills my motivation to improve. :(

Fortunately, I find driving the Megane at Willow Springs is a lot more enjoyable.
Quoting you only becasue you are the last with a comment like this. Honestly not judging you, angry with you, or otherwise upset.

Funny thing about these combos, many people like one or the other, while a few like both, and a few don't like either. Wonder what we were trying for? :odd:

Welp. One thing's for sure, I definitely need a Kevin-to-Redneck translator. Can't even make it through half a sentence before I wanna grab a dictionary.

Kevin while racing: if i hit the next corner at an 83º angle while applying 33% brake pressure until the apex, I can accelerate .004825 quicker at 70% throttle to gain.1275 at the split.

Me: don't overshoot, don't overshoot, don't overshoot.... don't slide!!!! Heeeey I gained a tenth! Damn it's a dirty lap..
 You crack me up.

Those are called pear-a-graphs, by the way. Look around here, you might find more of them. ;)

Well I thought there was about two tenths left when I decided to try BH again this morning. I ended up gaining .607 and there's still about .2 left. This either means I'm learning something, or everyone else already had the speed and I'm just getting where I should be. Or, I'm still way behind.

GGAAAAAHHHHH!!

I think I'm finished with this for now, I've done around 8 hours on each combo, and I don't think I'll have time for another session. Certainly not one long enough to improve on my current time, it would require a lot of restarts to improve any further I think :)

To put it politely, book-ends?

Did you bug my PS3? I don't know how many times I said that.

Willow experience is now a matter of : over the white line slightly = fast, otherwise....slow

Frustrating!

Having moved onto the Brands Hatch segment I gave it another go today, and whilst I can see where there's time to be had on my best lap, it's hard to repeat it. You are basically going double-or-bust through at least four of the corners and it's not really possible to "bank" a lap until very near the end where you could conceivably take it steady (in relative terms) and just ride the advantage you have built up.

Couldn't get within 0.5 of my best lap today. Just ran it to keep my eye in. Hopefully over the next week I can really have a serious final assault on Brands, and then give Willow one last go to see if there's anything left (which there probably isn't).

I seemed to hit close to the limit on BH much faster than I did Willow by several days. Maybe it's because of the way the cars handle, or maybe it because I didn't even know the Willow track and in contrast I had spent some time lapping a RUF around brands a few weeks ago for my own enjoyment. Whilst the handling was different it did impart obvious track knowledge, and I went into this segment with a good racing line established in my head.

Incidentally I feel that both comfort tyres and racing tyres are a bit off. Comforts are buckets of understeer no matter what you are driving, and the amount of lateral force required to start the tyres screeching is absolutely minimal. I honestly think those tyres are bugged and will be changed in a patch. It concerns me regarding my time and if that was to happen before the submission deadline.

The racing tyres are odd. Slick racing compounds have very little transition between slip and grip. I almost feel that there is too much slip (and understeer) with the racing tyres than there ought to be. I feel as though you can "ride" excessive slip (and understeer) when in fact you should probably be veering straight off the road as your front grip would be minimal at best once you have surpassed the limits of adhesion. It's funny for me to be asking for more understeer given GT5p's tendency towards it, but I feel that the one area where GT is sub-par is it's transition between slip and grip and it's ability to communicate that to you via wheel feedback; granted however that (IMO) GT6 offers more progressive tyre slip than GT5 did.

To the MODS. As you can see I have a PSN ID attached to my account. It's defunct now since I can no longer access it and I'll be submitting under my main PSN account. Will this cause any problems with fetchbot when I submit, or will it be fine because we are starting afresh so to speak?.

You can choose whatever psn you would like to use.

Needs to be the same for both combos, and match the text in your submission.

Sorry. I get bored a lot driving down the road lol well that and I drink a lot too. I'm just here for comic relief... I have no relative information to post to the thread since I can't run my qualifier for awhile. Guess I should stop posting to keep things on topic :embarrassed:

I'm also a little concerned that there might be an update at the start of January before the submission deadline. If they decide to fix the RA functions that don't work then someone could easily improve their time on both events by 0.5 seconds, and I won't have a chance to improve between now and the submission. I'd hope the mods would do something if this happened.

There are all sorts of "fun" scenarios that could happen. We will react as best we can to keep things fair and balanced. That's all we can do and all we can promise. Whether and/or when those scenarios are realized is completely out of our control.

Why are so many people hellbent on setting such a high qualifier time? You'll be in the correct division within 4 TT's anyway..

Sounds like a personal problem to me. Seriously. Let's say there is a patch Jan 1st or 2nd that fixes RA.. you still have until the 13th to run it, if you can't find the time, that's on you. Now, if a patch releases on like the 10th, then I'm sure that might cause a problem. I'm sure they already have the fastest possible times programmed into their magic computer and I'm sure where you finish now would be the same as it would be after a RA function patch and you didn't run

I don't think Bandit would be alone in that situation. A lot of people may have time over holidays and not much once back to work/school. One of the reasons for our timing of release.

Let's just hope we don't see this really play out and we have nice smooth sailing until the initial deadline and beyond.

And if there are any minor hiccups, to your point, run a few TT and you should converge to your true handicap in short time.

The problem is that everyone performs well above their ability in these qualifiers relative to their weekly performance, and therefore in order to be placed correctly you need to be absolutely at the limit of your ability. I qualified Div 3 gold in prologue and division 1 Silver in GT5. There was little difference in what I was doing, other than realising that you have to absolutely wring every thousandth that you can from your qualifier.

As a mark of ability it is quite artificial. Despite the blurb suggesting that you spend as much time running the qualifier as you would running the weekly; people spend vastly more on the quali than they do on the weekly. If you know this then it's an even playing field I guess, but if you genuinely only extract that which a weekly schedule would allow; then you'll probably be in a lower division than you should.

Cool, thanks for the reply 👍 Let's hope they wait until slightly later January to update the game, although they have been updating quite regularly so hopefully they'll do some updates that don't affect the qualifier :)

I didn't spend enough time on the GT5 qualifier, I only spent about 2 hours total on it. I re-tried the event later and improved my time by over 4 seconds, so this time around I'm making sure I've reached the limit before I submit, which I have already managed to more or less do :)

What are RA functions.?

I forget what RA stands for, but they're basically a few parameters (6 or 7, I guess) that can be changed while on track. Among them are ABS and brake balance. The Logitech DFGT has built-in controls for those functions, but the game allows you to map DS3 buttons (or buttons from other wheels) to those functions.

It stands for real-time adjustments. :)

So far though, I haven't been able to change anything in the menu. Am I the only one having that issue?

I didn't actually know what it stood for haha! It's not been working since they introduced it. Strangely, I was able to adjust the brake balance once using it, but every time after that it hasn't worked, and that was probably about mid December.

I haven't really gotten the sense that people are pushing any harder than they normally do. The qualifier only opened seven days ago which is the same length of time that a normal tt runs so I don't see how it's possible to say people are putting more effort into this than they put into a tt. I plan on running this for two weeks, in my spare time since basically there are two combos to work out. I hope it's enough to get me to d1, but if not I don't think it will be because everyone else tried harder than they should have.

I've been able to use the RA functions to change settings since the 1.02 update although for a while it was acting weird until I figured out that I had configured my wheel buttons incorrectly :dunce:. You can't change anything on the two qualifier combos though :(

We've had many controller drivers over the years. Some of them quite successful.

Comb through our leaderboard, you can see who is using controllers in the 3rd column from the left. If you click on a driver, you'll see their results page, like the ones I've linked below.

@viper84 is in D2, and has many division wins (10) and podiums (25) to his name.

http://wrs.gtplanet.net/driver/GTP_viper84/

We've also had guys start out on controllers, move to wheel, and move up through the ranks.

@mohitraina91 is the most recent example, he was D3 at the start of GT5 and made it to D1.

Hey I know I'm no benchmark, but a small mention would have been nice
We DS3 drivers are probably in a bit of a disadvantage, but I found WRS to be a little like golf: You do compete against others, but mainly against yourself.

sorry.

You'll notice the guys I pointed out have participated a LOT.

No offense intended toward the rest of you.
