I think I'm done on Willow Springs, still .2 off my dirty best and have a time .1 better but I think it's just dirty and don't want to submit something that's too close, but now when I watch my replay it looks like I'm out for a Sunday drive and afraid to get the car dirty.

Hi everyone, nice to see the WRS starting early in GT6! I'll be tackling those two combos now, but before I want to shout a big thanks to everyone involved in the work behind the scenes which make this possible!

And I also have a question. New members are not obligated to create a GTP_ name tag anymore but I think I read somewhere that for those who already have one, then we have to run again on that account? I'd like to have some clarification on that, before I spend too much time chasing tenths lol.

Good luck everyone.

Nice to see you here. 👍

You are welcome and encouraged to use you GTP account. But you are NOT required to use it.

Made quite a bit of progress on the BH/BMW combo tonight (shave off more than a whole second). I had to start thinking outside the box, i.e. the driving line... finding better braking points... I can say no more... :sly:

I hope we'll soon have a TT on that track, so we can apply things we've learned during the qualifier!

It's been a few days since I tried the other combo, very hard to tell how close I am to my limit there. I should spend at least another couple of hours on it, just to see if there's any hope of improving.

Thinking about the whole thing, I think I would rather over qualify a bit, it would give me an incentive to really make an effort every week on the TTs. Like many have already said, we're really competing against ourselves rather than against others. Getting on the podium from time to time is nice, but the main thing is trying to improve over time in a variety of combos. All that being said, I'd really like to be very close to where I had gotten in GT5.

Wooo! I gained another 4 tenths with the BMW! I usually have to restart 5 out of 6 tries due to running wide or going through it too slow. :banghead: Another two tenths or so left to find, but I'm pretty happy with the lap at this point.

As for Willow, I can see another tenth, but I'd have to do a lot of restarting to get that done. :) It's great to see so many new guys and gals in the WRS!

Thank you so much to whoever created these challenges for this registry. I never thought that I would be able to cope with a FF ever but I seriously have gotten more confident with them that's for sure.

Kevin, sorry if this has been stated before (660 posts is too much for me to check right now) - will we have a similar procedure for verifying laps as we did in GT5? If so, isn't it bad to allow 'any time' for the time settings? Verifying a dark lap will be more difficult - but I'm sure you've thought of that.

It's in the OP of the Registry thread.
Time Verification:

Drivers' submitted replays will be used to verify times and confirm compliance with all qualifier regulations including course and car options, driving aids and track boundaries.

Verification will include manual inspection within the game replay system (and upcoming data analyzer) as well as automated analysis utilizing WRS admin tools.

Replays will be archived permanently and the admins reserve the right to review replays repeatedly in the future (as tools are enhanced) and impose disciplinary action should anything non-compliant be discovered. There is no statute of limitations for skirting the rules.

Also, I seriously doubt anyone is gonna run these combos at night.

I don't consider that an answer D. It was meant as a serious question.
The OP does not state that we will be doing it as in GT5.
Fools go where doubters dare not.

In short, yes we do.

Even at night, there's till enough light to see where the tyres are on track.
If you're trying to cut it too close on a dark track, the result after reviewing the replay can only turn out in your own disadvantage, with a DQ.
I don't think anyone would try to risk that, don't you?

Also, you can't race in the complete dark at Brands Hatch, and if you try to race in the dark at Willow you can't see, so good luck trying to get a good lap in!

Back onto willow for first time since Boxing Day, after 80 ish miles I had a freak start to the lap that I'm sure I will never be able match again, by sector 2 I was so far ahead I choked a little lost some time in the long right hander, and also was keen not to hit the cone on the right turn I got it all wrong ran so wide, all the wrong angle for the quick left right at the end, but still over .1 improvement overall, have found a couple of tenths I didn't know we're possible

After not running Brands for a few days, I gave it another shot and found .1. Once you have a good lap there, you really have to push hard to try and beat it. Pushing hard at Brands for me normally results in me off track and hitting reset. I think I am pretty happy with both laps now, will give them a shot over the next week to see if I can squeeze out another tenth or 2.

Got a couple of tenths off my Brands time. Potentially I would gain another 0.5sec if I repeated all my best sectors in a single lap, but that's probably unlikely. As it is, the first two sectors of my best lap are pretty rubbish, but the end is fairly strong. If I put together a more balanced and faster lap I may call it quits on that one as I could spend forever trying to nail a lap that may never happen.

If I'm within about 0.5secs of the best then that will do. It's not worth trying to chase that for me. It's just quite hard working out roughly what the absolute minimum could theoretically be.

I realize a few have already replied, but will add in my own 2 cents.

I believe the disadvantage to running in the dark is much greater than any advantage that might be gained. If someone decided to run a lap in the dark and completely abuse the boundaries, to the point that it was extremely difficult to verify, we would most likely DQ the lap out of hand and request a new submission from them.

I really don't envision anyone actually doing that. Do you?

No, not really, I was just imagining verifying races in the dark and thought it was uneccessary to allow the possibility. Thanks for the answer.

I know the feeling :) Set a fast time in my very first session on Brands Hatch. Tried to better it with no result in the next 4 sessions. In the 5th session (about a week after the first one), I pushed it to the max and finally found a better time... 0.025 secs faster to be exact :P

if we do a lap in complete darkness can we take like 1sec off our laptimes as a handicap? :P

All these posts are driving me crazy... (no not that type of crazy :dopey:). All you guys (and gals) have honed in on your best laps, even taking tenths out of laps you thought were close to your limit... I haven't even started yet and still have 5 days before I can run my first lap in anger... It's like in university when you had the last exam of the week and all your buddies went home for the summer. (It was a long while ago, do they still do exams at university?).

lol nice one, i used to love that show.

yeah same here :( have a busy schedule over xmas/new years period which sucks. hopefully can get some runs in next week.

I'd like to say 'Ehh... No!' to that but unfortunately they do still have exams at university haha! Thankfully I don't have any until May, but I got a bunch of assignments to work through for now!

I think once I log a lap that is 2-3 tenths faster on Brands Hatch I am done as far as seriously running this goes. I may try a bit of all-or-nothing laps just to see if I can bank one, but once you get down to a certain time there is little margin between all-out and fast. You are either on the absolute limits of the track and at least in contention or you are leaving a small margin but falling behind by fractions every corner.

I might re-visit willow for the hell of it, but It'll probably take me so long to get back up to speed that it's not worth it, and I don't think I can do much more there anyway. I could definitely shave a tenth, but my lap is about as good as I have done even using combined splits over quite a few fast laps. It's not a combo I massively enjoy either, although it grew on me slightly once I got into it.

It's difficult to work out how good my times are. Brands I think is representative of what I can do, and by way of a design consequence I've spotted (that I'm sure was intentional when choosing these two specific combos) I'm pretty sure now that my Willow time is on par with it.

Driving the BMW has definitely brought my precision and consistency back up to where it needs to be (and hopefully where it was when I ran the GT5 qualifier)

Some people where talking about understeer in the BMW. I really don't get it? The car handles beautifully, with a bit of added oversteer on the exit. Got a reasonable time in at Willow now, still a few tenths I think, but gunna tackle Brands in the coming days I think, I see it as being the combo where more time can be found overall. More of a kind of "all or nothing" style of lap there :)
