How's the wheel Wes?
It's great, and I'm pretty much up to pace already. Trail braking is a bit more difficult when switching pedals (and changing to racing with shoes), but I like the brake pedal a lot. It feels like the Fanatec clubsport pedal. The FFB isn't that much better than a DFGT/G27 for example (in GT5 at least). However there's no FFB fade. With the DFGT the FFB would just fade away after 10 minutes of driving (FFB on 7) because it would get way too hot. The T500RS has an in-built fan which prevents that and I won't have to sit right behind a 50 degrees celcius wheel.

Having said that, I made a mess of my pre-qualification. And my hope of a podium is pretty much gone until Suzuka. I think Monza is a joke with what PD considers low weak slipstream.

Oink. I will send you a bit of info about my goals for today and keys to my laps, etc. so you can reference for your broadcast. Did you want to post your feed link or embed it from YouTube here or in the OP?

I will also send you my race goals and strategy later for tomorrow's broadcast.

Should I PM you or fill out the driver info form again? Should we ask other drivers to do the same? You don't have to fill in any background Info if you filled it in before (unless it is new info), just update the strategy and goal related stuff for this Grand Prix. If you have never filled out the form, give oink some of your bio on the form so be can use it in the broadcasts.

See the registration post for a link to the form.

Edit:

Ps. The form still says Monaco, but just assume spa!

Good luck guys and have fun.

Good luck guys and have fun.

Any chance you'd be able to run a pre-qualifier today before the official qualifying takes place?

Are any stewards available to view my pre-quali please?

I'm joining the main lounge now for a warm up.

I'm in the lounge.

Forgot to close lounge, nice run Chris.

Frank, absolutely fine starting at the back of room 2 tomorrow if you don't get a chance to qualify. You are a known commodity and we're not worried about your ability to drive safely, stay on track and avoid contact. 👍 Of course if you do pre-qualify you have a chance to not start at the very back, but that's up to you and your schedule. I am going to add you to the registration as reserve for the GP and No for qualifying as it will help us manage things for tomorrow. When you get a better idea tonight or tomorrow just update your status for the GP... please do so within a few hours (3) of the race start if at all possible.

Just as an FYI... for a driver we don't know and hasn't been involved in practices and/or previous events, it would be different. Skipping quali would require some sort of pre-qualifying or unofficial audition to make sure we don't have one guy who hasn't prepared ruin the race of people who have been preparing for days for the event.

Knockout Quali starts in under 3 hours!!!

Knockout Qualification

Saturday's one-hour qualifying event is split into three sessions with a 5 minute break between each session to reset times:
  • Q1: 20 minute elimination round where the slowest drivers are knocked out and fill the last positions on the starting grid.
  • Q2: 15 minute elimination round where the slowest drivers are knocked out and fill the middle positions on the starting grid.
  • Q3: 10 minute shootout to determine pole position and the starting order for the top places on the starting grid.
  • The number of drivers that advance in each round is specified in the following table:
KnockoutQualiAdvancementTable-1.png

Qualification Details:
  • Pits: In all rounds the pits are open for tire changes.
  • Laps: In all rounds drivers can run as many laps as they wish. Any lap started prior to the time cutoff is legal.
  • Tires: Drivers can use any approved tire compound during qualification. Drivers eliminated in Q3 or Q2 have their choice of compound to start the race. Drivers that advance to Q3 must start the race with the tires used during their fastest lap in Q3.
  • Cutoffs: The number of drivers that are eliminated in each round will depend on the total number of drivers participating in knockout qualifying. The cutoffs will be announced an hour prior to qualifying.
  • Lounge Limits: In the event that more than 16 drivers are registered for qualification, lounges will be split evenly for Q1 at the discretion of the stewards and the number of advancing drivers will be adjusted so that there are no more than 14 drivers for Q2. The lobbies will then merge for the remaining two rounds. A steward will post instructions to this thread, including which room drivers should report to, at least an hour before qualification.
  • Disconnects: If a driver DCs during qualification he/she is allowed to rejoin the lounge. If a steward has recorded their fast lap prior to the DC the lap will count otherwise only laps run after returning to the lounge and prior to the end of the session will count.
  • Interference: If a driver is deemed by the stewards to have stopped unnecessarily on the circuit or impeded another driver during qualifying, his times may be cancelled and the driver will be placed at the back of the grid for the race start. The stewards decisions are final. Should a driver spin, run off track, or lose control of his car he must wait for a clear opening in the track to return. If a driver is in a position where he is slower than the car behind him for any reason he must slow and yield his line so that the approaching driver is not held up. Drivers that interfere with another drivers' hot lap may incur a grid placement penalty at the discretion of the stewards.

The Q1 room assignments have been published and are listed in the registration image. The first 11 drivers (plus oink) will be assigned to the main lounge and the remaining (including any reserves that show up) will be assigned to the B lounge.

GTP_3D3Racing for Q1:
  1. GTP_Kosmic
  2. GTP_Spurgy777
  3. GTP_TamHablo
  4. GTP_PASM
  5. GTP_gooners_17
  6. GTP_gmmatthew
  7. GTP_Jb
  8. GTP_WRP001 (host)
  9. GTP_ROCK3T
  10. GTP_Rph
  11. GTP_JTV (steward)

GTP_3D3_B for Q1:

  7. GTP_otxjto
  8. GTP_Jammy
  9. GTP_Peir
  10. GTP_Allibubba99 (steward)
  11. GTP_SkillZz

After Q1 is complete the race director in each lounge will announce which drivers advance to Q2 (and we'll post to this thread). Those drivers eliminated in Q1 must exit the main lounge, but are free to remain/join a practice in B and/or watch oink's stream for the remainder of qualifying. After Q2 is complete drivers that are eliminated can stay and watch or can exit during the break prior to Q3. Once any round official starts please do not exit the lounge and do not use any chat (text or voice). Use chat or exit/enter only during breaks.

Speaking of chat. Mics will be enabled in both lounges today for all rounds, but during live hot laps should only be used by the race director to announce track open, checkered flag and give instructions. The mics will be disabled in lounge #1 for the GP tomorrow for sure and the mic setting in lounge #2 depends on the driver count.

Quali Notes:

Just before any round all drivers will be asked to clear their times on the leaderboard. Do this by exiting to the lobby, entering the pits and exiting to the lobby again. Once all drivers are cleared the race directory will ask drivers to enter the pits. When all drivers are in the pits the director will announce the checkered flag time for that round (based on the in game race clock) and then open the pits at the proper time.

Any lap you start before the checkered flag can be completed, but you cannot start a lap after the checkered. The director may be on a hot lap during the exact time of the checkered flag so all drivers are expected to note and know this time. If possible the director will announce the checkered and maybe a 5 minute warning, but that comes second to his own lapping.

Pits are open during all rounds. After your pit be very considerate on your out lap. If someone on a hot lap is coming up on you just get out of the way and look for some open track and set up for your first hot lap. Drafting is not allowed, but someone on a hot lap does have the right to the track over someone on an out- or in-lap.

After you complete your final lap during each session drive around track (making sure not to interfere with anyone) and drive into the pits. Stay in the pits and don't exit to the lobby until you are directed to do so by a steward. If you exit to the lobby there is a chance your time will be lost and you will be eliminated. If you DC during a session you can try to rejoin, but if you can't complete a lap by the time you rejoin your previous lap time will be lost (unless by chance it was noted by a steward which is unlikely).

Don't arrive in the lounge at the last minute and expect to warm up. We are starting on time and keeping on schedule. If you arrive late expect to start cold.

Any Questions? Now is the time to ask!

I had this happen to me last quali: drafting isn't allowed so I slowed down on the out lap to leave a 5-7 second gap, and promptly got overtaken by 3-4 guys.

And since it's a timed qualifying session we can't ask people to stagger every 7-8 seconds as the guys at the back will be at a disadvantage.

How do you suggest the out laps are taken in that case? Drafting is inevitable but I suggest people not being allowed to pass each other using that draft advantage. If they use draft they have to stick behind in the dirty air.

Lounge B is open for the early birds, ill be afk for a bit though.

If a driver is being caught by a faster driver, they should do their best to move over without causing any incidents.

Drivers not on a hotlap need to be fully away of cars approaching them that could very well be on a hotlap at the time. Drivers just exiting the pits or aren't up to speed should make way for those that are in a safe manner by moving off the racing line.

No, I meant when everyone is on the outlap, when I tried making a small room in front of me I got passed by a bunch of people.

There shouldn't be anyone making passes on the outlap unless someone has gone off track, or has slowed to concede track position to a faster driver so they won't potentially hold them up on a hotlap. There's more than enough room for 11-14 drivers at Spa with 5-7 second gaps without the first driver on track catching the last driver.

What are the guidelines for pit exit?

I can see it's going to be pretty easy to disrupt guys passing the exit as it just spits you out across the track, unless you lift off the gas and steer hard right.

Don't cross the white line. Just be prepared to turn the car further to keep it within the pit exit boundary.

Listen we aren't going to create a regulation for every scenario you can think of... Use your common sense and show sportsmanship is commandment #1 that trumps everything else.

If you are on an out-lap give way and don't interfere... if you slow on an out-lap and other guys behind you are on an out-lap they shouldn't steam by you at 100%. Just like when you were toddlers in the sand box... don't throw sand in the other kid's eyes or you might lose access to the park and get a time out. Just sayin'

Pit exit always has to yield to traffic oncoming regardless of race or quali... any incidents in that area are the fault of the driver exiting the pits so the onus is on them to make sure they don't happen.

Don't abuse the draft... try to minimize it... if you are in a situation where you jsut can't avoid it at all without messing up your entire lap, just try to minimize it and carry on... Don't tuck in for the perfect draft... just peel over to the right or left. The draft in T2 isn't going to help you more than the dirty air will hurt you so we're obviously talking about T1 and T3 where the track is wide enough to minimize the issue without losing everything on your lap.

If you crash on a hot lap... treat the rest of the lap as you would the out-lap and prepare your track position for the next lap so you don't get yourself or someone else in a bad situation... don't interfere and in fact, go out of your way to not get in the way.

2nd commandment that's only trumped by the first. Have fun and enjoy yourself. We're not handing out any prizes, there isn't that much on the line here folks, and if you manage to get screwed because a guy crashed in front of you on your gold lap... it's racing man... if it's not intentional there's nothing you can do about it so just move on and save yourself a few heartbeats for later in your life when they become rather valuable and relax.

Be in the lounge at least 5 minutes prior to the start of quali.

I made a mistake earlier and said GTP_3D3_A would be used for the 2nd room today... that's not right... :dunce:

It's GTP_3D3_B (i've updated the posts) and hasslemoff already has it set up and ready.

We are now live for quali! Check link or watch right here from WRP's post above

DrAug and Rock3t need to report to the main lounge like now! Quali starts in 4 minutes.

EDIT: Rocket Arrived. DrAug, if you arrive late you can jump on track during Q1 and use whatever time there is left. Once Q1 is finished though you will be a DNQ.

Great fun today guys. That was intense and almost every round went down to the wire for multiple positions and transfer spots. :boggled:

Here are the overall qualification results including pre-qualifiers:

20130824_quali_overall-1.png

Notes:
  • Calcifer has a 3 grid spot penalty carrying over from Monaco so will move from 7th to 10th on the grid.
  • The top 12 are guaranteed grid spots in room #1.
  • We don't know the exact cutoff for room #1 yet. It depends on the reserve drivers and any last minute cancellations. The exact room/grid assignments will be published about 3 hours prior to the race in order to give those on reserve a chance to update their status.

Here are the round by round results for knockout quali:

20130824_quali_round1.png
20130824_quali_round2.png
20130824_quali_round3.png

Observations:
  • Pole was won by 0.002 and only 0.031 separated the top 3!
  • Everyone in Q2 managed a 1'43 time 👍
  • In Q2 the 8th (WRP) and 9th (Kosmic) place drivers missed advancing to Q3 by less than 0.03 :boggled: (and Calcifer ran that on his last lap).
  • Q3 was D1 dominated... Who says the handicaps aren't accurate?
  • The fastest lap of the day was 1'42.246 by PASM in Q2

:gtpflag:

Hopping in the lounge for a late night practice.

[queue music]One more night... oh, one more night.[/queuemusic]

I'll join you in a few...

EDIT: I've confirmed for tomorrow, and I will be one of the stewards in the B room. I'll post to this thread when GTP_3D3_B is open for joining.
We will most likely have mics-disabled for both rooms.
