The official practices starting tomorrow and all other events through Sunday will be held in the main lounge (GTP_3D3Racing)

If you haven't already, could you please enable mics in 3D3 lounge. Thanks!

Got a question: if I run a pre-qualifier because I'm not sure if I can make it Saturday, and then turns out I can make it Saturday, can I take part in the quali sessions? Of course that would void my pre qualifier even if my pre qualifier turns out to be faster.

It's a huge disadvantage running a pre qualifier but it's better than not setting a time at all.

Sorry Mohit. That's not allowed and in fact Frank was faced with the same issue at Monaco. You can wait until Saturday morning to pre qualify, but once you do you are done. One shot quali only.

Ps. The mics have been enabled in B for a while. I am switching the main lounge to Spa tonight.

Ah OK thanks! Yeah that's a real dilemma I got now :nervous:.

I see there is PSN maintenance today from 12pm PST to 630pm PST. Hopefully it's the type that doesn't lock you out as long as you've signed in within the last few days.

I'm going into the lounge now to get some laps done with the car. Haven't driven the F10 at Spa since the weekly combo we did a year ago.

Start your engines... The race weekend starts today:

(<== this is Mohit blocking my pass attempt on Kemmel... not legal by the way.)

Free Practice 1

Thursday, August 22, 2013

12:00 PM Pacific | 3:00 PM Eastern | 19:00 GMT | Local

I'll be opening the lounge (GTP_3D3Racing) early today... ~11:00 AM Pacific | 18:00 GMT. I have to drop at 1:00 PM Pacific, but will return later if anyone is still in the lounge.

We'll run short races with open free run between. If anyone is interested we could also run simulated Q1 and Q2 knockout quali... basically nobody would get eliminated, but we'd run a 20 minute and 15 minute session for fastest times.

See you in the lounge.

PS> The main lounge (GTP_3D3Racing) has been set to default to Spa with mics-enabled and reserved for the F1 series from now until Sunday so that's where all events will take place unless we need two lounges.

I'm out of the lounge already. Got disconnected and didn't feel like setting everything back up again. I'll be on for the practice session.

I've got the main lounge setup. I'll be AFK for the next hour, but I want to see if there is an issue with PSN and if I get disconnected. Feel free to hop in any time... it's ready to go.

I'll there as soon as I can. Installing T500RS.. :)

Sweet, it arrived early. 👍

Kosmic just signed up so it looks pretty good for two lounges. Those of you afraid of running with aliens feel free to sign up now... Room B should be a lot of fun and have a pretty decent grid. :dopey:

I'm in a similar boat as Mohit...most likely can't make Sat quali, but can most likely make Sun race, so will be attempting to pre-quali on Fri night, I think.

Kosmic... don't forget to fill out the registration form so we get an accurate count for rooms splits. Anyone else who's status has changed or wishes to take part, please update your registration by Friday night. Anybody who "no shows" for quali or the race (without any prior notice) will earn a 5 spot grid start penalty in the next race.

It looks like round 1 of quali will be split between two rooms (main and B). The top half in terms of handicap (which is the order of the registration table) will run Q1 in the main lounge. Any drivers that advance beyond Q1 will run the remainder of Knockout quali in the main lounge (doesn't matter which room you ran Q1 in, only your fastest lap matters).

For the race, reference the room split rules in the details post in terms of who drives in which lounge. Fastest drivers in the main lounge for the "A" race, but the count depends on the total # of drivers.

PS> If you can't make qualification and don't pre-qualify you may start at the back of Room B, but only if you're a proven driver and we can trust you to have car control. If you have no experience with WRS-Online or this F1 series, you will be required to do a quali race observed by a steward to prove you're capable of driving at a minimum speed and exhibit car control.

Signed up now. Was good to run some laps with other people. You don't really have a benchmark until you run in a room like tonight. Looks like I got some work to do before quali. :scared:

So we're at 20 confirmed drivers + 4 reserve. I fully expect a couple cancels and a couple of the reserves to race so I suspect we'll be right at 20/21 by Sunday. That means we'll be in two lounges and everyone gets to race. 👍

Looking at the split rules:

  • Lounge Limits:
    • One spot is reserved in room 1 for the broadcaster (oink) who will observe the race and manage a live feed on twitch.
    • 00-17: The top 15 qualifiers will race in room 1 and any remaining drivers will be on "stand by" and fill in for absent drivers or last minute cancellations.
    • 18-20: The top 12 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (6-8) in room 2.
    • 21-23: The top 13 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (8-10) in room 2.
    • 24-26: The top 14 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (10-12) in room 2.
    • 27-31: The top 15 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (12-16) in room 2.
    • Race finish times will be compared across lounges to determine championship points, however drivers in room 2 have a ceiling of 7th place for a maximum of 6 championship points.
    • Individual race wins or podium finishes in room 2 are considered "official" for historical tracking purposes.

if we're 20, the top 12 race in A | 8 in B
if we're 21, the top 13 race in A | 8 in B
if we're 22, the top 13 race in A | 9 in B
if we're 23, the top 13 race in A | 10 in B
if we're 24, the top 14 race in A | 10 in B

So, if you want to race in room A, you should finish qualification in the top 12 to be sure!

The way it looks now for qualifying:
  • If you advance to Q3 then you are guaranteed a spot in race A.
  • If you are eliminated in Q1 then you are guaranteed a spot in race B.
  • If you get eliminated in Q2 then your fastest lap time will be compared to all others that advanced to Q2 plus all pre-qualifiers to determine who makes the room A cutoff.
  • If you pre-qualify you have to run a lap fast enough to put you in the top 12 from Q2 to race in A. If you make the A race, you cannot start in front of drivers that advance to Q3 regardless of your time. You can, however, start on pole if race B if it works out just right. :sly:

Hopping in the main lounge for a bit of practice... will probably stay for about 60 mins.

Hmmm, what happened to the practice board for softs?

Ah it's back again.

Going to main lounge for some practice.

Any chance of doing practice starts today? If not, I think I'll pick a grid spot off the racing line during free run and let the tires cool down before going. Mostly need to work on La Source at the start as the two practice races I did yesterday found me spinning on the exit of the corner. :dunce:

I don't know how I didn't take anyone out in those spins.

Yah, let's run a few practice starts and short races today. The race last week was pretty much carnage... not so much in the first turn, but the first few laps I was collected in a few incidents. The cold hard tires catch guys off guard I think... in this car, you try to give an inch to stay safe and 4 guys race by you... it's a tricky balance.

Important notice/reminder on track boundaries for Spa:

Spa-boundary-guidelines.jpg

In the F1 car most of these boundaries aren't much of a problem. It's pretty easy to make Eau Rouge and Blanchimont cleanly, unlike with other cars, and the other areas will bite you badly if you run off with this car so there isn't much to gain.

The one major area of concern is Pouhon, which can be taken wide easily with this car without penalty and will gain you time.

The stewards will be watching the replay and viewing laps from *every* driver on that corner so keep it clean. If we see a pattern of abuse expect to receive a penalty. We're looking for frequency of abuse, how far you run off and potential gain from abusing the boundary and any penalty will be relative to those factors. By gain, it's not just limited to gaining a position, but using the runoff to stay in a drivers draft or dropping a driver from your draft.

If you find yourself running very wide don't repeat it. If you go slightly off, but several laps in a row, make sure to break the pattern. We're not going to penalize for one or two mistakes in the race.

We won't have a replay for qualifying since it's run in free mode, but there will be eyes about. We issued penalties in the last race for track abuse during qualifying and will do so again if it's observed.

yes but is off line

No, it's not offline. Well, it is offline, but the lounge is still full of guys. It doesn't show the yellow dot, but there are people in there. Go click on it and see!
