Jay-Z wants to run for U.S. President

So you think people should be allowed to do cocaine or whatever drug they want b/c it's their body, ignoring the fact that a lot of people have ended up dead from even just doing it once?

The govt. doesn't want anyone to kill themselves whether it's intentionally, or indirectly, and hard drugs have been causes of the latter for many years now.

Yes.

I remember when Tony Blair resigned as PM, The Daily Show did a retrospective of how much a toll the job had done on the man (stuff like counting the new wrinkles in his face, and noting how large the bags under his eyes became). Then they went "and here is how much a toll the job has taken on President Bush... OMIGOD, he's in better shape then he was when he was elected!"

Spending so many years as Bush's whipping boy must have been pretty stressful on Blair too.

Actually, to be fair to Tony, like Bush he was also a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for too. As part of my last degree I watched a number of speeches to commerce he gave and he was incredibly eloquent and well-humoured.

So he doesn't 'sing'; there are a lot of other people 'speaking quickly while music happens' but few enjoy the success that Jay Z does.

Success is solely dependent on how many idiots buy his records. It doesn't mean he's in any way intelligent/talented/not a complete crook. It just means people need to be dim enough to like him.

Unfortunately, there's a worrying proportion of society who do like him, which bodes badly if he ever gets into a genuine position of power.

Now answer why.

Exactly what Omnis said. It's your own personal decision. I don't use drugs, but I'm not against them in any way. I don't care if someone wants to, it's their decision.

The government is always trying their hardest to stop everyone from dying at all in any form, it's suspicious and annoying in my opinion.

You guys are quick to bash him just because he's a rapper, eh? But if Bill Gates were to run for president, I imagine the vast majority of you would think it was a great idea. I'd suggest looking up his credentials as a businessman before being so quick to say "he's rich because stupid people buy his music". The man makes money through sound business decisions - Album sales account for very little of his total net worth. But, running a profitable record label, clothing line, chain of night clubs, part ownership of multiple sports franchises, working as a brand director for Budweiser and investment in hotel chains and whatnot is what most "petty thugs" are into. I mean, all the gang bangers I know of do that sort of stuff.

As for the people who questioned his philanthropy, well, he donated a million dollars to the Red Cross for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. That "water for life" effort with the UN was rather selfless as well. But I'm sure most members here questioning his actions have probably done more, right? Easy to judge from behind the computer. Shame on you guys for doing less to better the world we live in than some "low life thug".

Personally, I'd vote for Jay-Z before I'd vote for many career politicians. But then again, I'm a convicted felon so my opinion doesn't really matter, does it? It's regrettable that those who can vote are so narrow-minded and uninformed.

You guys are quick to bash him just because he's a rapper, eh?

Yep.

But if Bill Gates were to run for president, I imagine the vast majority of you would think it was a great idea.

Nope. A better idea, but not a great one.

I'd suggest looking up his credentials as a businessman

Why? Do businessmen make the best Presidents?

Easy to judge from behind the computer.

Tough to see the screen from back there.

Shame on you guys for doing less to better the world we live in than some "low life thug".

I assume you know how we all attempt to better the world we live in then? No? Easy to judge from behind the computer...

Personally, I'd vote for Jay-Z before I'd vote for many career politicians.

Why would you want someone who isn't a politician as the leader of a group of politicians?

But then again, I'm a convicted felon so my opinion doesn't really matter, does it?

That's something you've got in common with Jay-Z then. When are you running for president?

It's regrettable that those who can vote are so narrow-minded and uninformed.

"If you open your mind too much, your brain might fall out".

But you're not an American, so you're useless and your opinion is invalid. See what I did there?

Nope. A better idea, but not a great one.

Quod erat demonstratum.

Why? Do businessmen make the best Presidents?

Do high school janitors make better ones? Running a country is like running a very, very large business - or should be anyway. Rather certain that knowing which path to move forward for a business, who to hire, who to fire, who to promote, how to balance a budget, etc isn't different in politics than it is in a business. Grander scale? Sure. Different in concept? Not at all.

Tough to see the screen from back there.

Yawn.

I assume you know how we all attempt to better the world we live in then? No? Easy to judge from behind the computer...

Nobody on here has donated a million dollars to the Red Cross. Nobody on here has partnered with the UN to make a documentary on the lack of water in third world countries. Does it bother you that a low life thug has done more to better the world than you have?

Why would you want someone who isn't a politician as the leader of a group of politicians?

Because if you keep putting the same type of people into the same position, you're going to get the same result. True insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and over and expecting a different outcome.

That's something you've got in common with Jay-Z then. When are you running for president?

Hoho! Except he isn't one.

"If you open your mind too much, your brain might fall out".

"Here is a quote at the end of my post in a desperate attempt to sound witty and/or validate my point because I feel inferior to the person I am replying to and have nothing of any actual merit to riposte with"

But you're not an American, so you're useless and your opinion is invalid. See what I did there?

Yes, I do.

Quod erat demonstratum.

My hovercraft is full of eels.

No idea what you're QEDing or why.

Do high school janitors make better ones?

Find one who has and we'll have a comparison.

Running a country is like running a very, very large business - or should be anyway.

Having never experienced the running of a country or a business, I wouldn't know.

Nobody on here has donated a million dollars to the Red Cross.

Prove it.

Nobody on here has partnered with the UN to make a documentary on the lack of water in third world countries.

Prove it.

I don't know the private lives of every single GTPer. Why do you presume to?

Does it bother you that a low life thug has done more to better the world than you have?

Assuming that he has, not even slightly. Assuming that he has. But then I don't measure myself by other people's successes (or failures). Jay-Z has also done more to harm the world than I have

Because if you keep putting the same type of people into the same position, you're going to get the same result.

History does not agree with you.

True insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and over and expecting a different outcome.

"Here is a quote at the end of my post in a desperate attempt to sound witty and/or validate my point because I feel inferior to the person I am replying to and have nothing of any actual merit to riposte with"

Since we get a different outcome every time we have an election, your quote is inapplicable too.

Hoho! Except he isn't one.

He's been convicted of assault - no time in prison, but a three year probation (not - note a felony, but a misdemeanour; he's still a "convicted felon", though he has not been convicted of a felony). Hoho.

Here is a quote at the end of my post in a desperate attempt to sound witty and/or validate my point because I feel inferior to the person I am replying to and have nothing of any actual merit to riposte with"

You've spent several years away but still come back with the attitude that you're superior to everyone. I'll act shocked.

Incidentally, how's Evoluzione Engineering doing these days? You surely must have sold enough $700 intakes to mount a run for the White House yourself.

My hovercraft is full of eels.

No idea what you're QEDing or why.

The point to be made was that the same people who presume Jay-Z would be a "bad" president would think Bill Gates would be a "good" president. Two extremely wealthy, intelligent businessmen and the differing factors are race and... What else, exactly? Perceived worth as a human being?

Prove it.

I don't know the private lives of every single GTPer. Why do you presume to?

Because if someone made a documentary during a partnership with the United Nations, and was a GTP member... We'd know? Tell you what, anyone who has donated $1,000,000.01 USD or done something comparable with the UN, step forward now with proof - I'll eat all 3 of my hats.

Jay-Z has also done more to harm the world than I have

Prove it.

Since we get a different outcome every time we have an election, your quote is inapplicable too.

We have a moron in office ruining the country. Most people think the guy before him was a moron, and ruining the country. Same deal for all of the other ones before them, as well. If so many people feel that career politicians are ruining the country, then why not vote for someone who isn't a career politician?

He's been convicted of assault - no time in prison, but a three year probation (not - note a felony, but a misdemeanour; he's still a "convicted felon", though he has not been convicted of a felony). Hoho.

I'm pretty sure that the term "convicted felon" applies only to people who have been convicted... of... felonies. Could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that's why there's a distinction between "misdemeanor assault" and "felonious assault" and the reason my "misdemeanor driving without a license" charges were not considered felonies.

You've spent several years away but still come back with the attitude that you're superior to everyone. I'll act shocked.

I see, you post a blatantly sarcastic quote and it's humorous. I post something equally satirical on a different level, I'm acting superior. Interesting perception of the situation.

Incidentally, how's Evoluzione Engineering doing these days? You surely must have sold enough $700 intakes to mount a run for the White House yourself.

Accuse me of something, then turn and do the same thing you're accusing someone of. Exceptional conduct coming from someone who is supposed to set the example for the way people are supposed to act on this site.

Incapable of articulating a point in the debate so you resort to underhanded comments on my personal life? Shame.

The point to be made was that the same people who presume Jay-Z would be a "bad" president would think Bill Gates would be a "good" president. Two extremely wealthy, intelligent businessmen and the differing factors are race and... What else, exactly? Perceived worth as a human being?

And yet I said that I don't think Bill Gates would be a good president, invalidating your point and assumption.

Because if someone made a documentary during a partnership with the United Nations, and was a GTP member... We'd know?

Why? Not everyone on here has to crow about their achievements all the time.

Prove it.

I've never shot or stabbed anyone, nor endangered their lives directly through my conduct. Jay-Z has shot one person, stabbed another (and lied about it) and allegedly stabbed a third.

My view about human life is not as mutable as Jay-Z's seems to be.

We have a moron in office ruining the country. Most people think the guy before him was a moron, and ruining the country. Same deal for all of the other ones before them, as well. If so many people feel that career politicians are ruining the country, then why not vote for someone who isn't a career politician?

Yet the two morons went about their moronicity in different manners. One moron thought that the US/World would best be served by "invading" countries to "execute regime change" and scribbling out bits of the UN Charter he didn't like, the other moron thinks that the US/World would best be served by overarching socialism and scribbling out bits of the Bill of Rights he doesn't like. Two wholly different approaches with the same aim - to improve your life.

What's the term for someone convicted of a misdemeanour?

I see, you post a blatantly sarcastic quote and it's humorous. I post something equally satirical on a different level, I'm acting superior. Interesting perception of the situation.

You accused every who doesn't think like you of being stupid and narrow-minded (amusingly an approach often taken by the religious zealot) and I pointed out the danger of extreme open-mindedness with an amusing quote. You, as is your style here, accused me of "feeling inferior" to you, which is, I have to agree, humourous.

Accuse me of something, then turn and do the same thing you're accusing someone of. Exceptional conduct coming from someone who is supposed to set the example for the way people are supposed to act on this site.

I have no idea what I've accused you of. I was enquiring after the health of your business venture since, last time you were here, you were doing very well selling "$700 intakes to morons" (and I recall setting up GT4 competitions for cash) and your business had a most enlightening Freewebs site.

Incapable of articulating a point in the debate so you resort to underhanded comments on my personal life? Shame.

Ghost C
It's regrettable that those who can vote are so narrow-minded and uninformed.

Does it bother you that a low life thug has done more to better the world than you have?

...because I feel inferior to the person I am replying to...

I know you've previously owned up here to massive hypocrisy, but... seriously?

And yet I said that I don't think Bill Gates would be a good president, invalidating your point and assumption.

Because you can speak for every person on the planet? My point was that people would assume Bill Gates a better president than Jay-Z for no actual merit but the fact that Bill Gates was not a rapper. I didn't specify by what degree of preference, but thank you for assuming my point is invalid based on some imagined criteria you had for it.

Why? Not everyone on here has to crow about their achievements all the time.

Sharing an exciting moment of one's life (supposedly amongst friends) =/= crowing about achievement? Are people crowing about achievement when they purchase their first car and post it here? Or what about when they're expecting children?

I've never shot or stabbed anyone, nor endangered their lives directly through my conduct. Jay-Z has shot one person, stabbed another (and lied about it) and allegedly stabbed a third.

My view about human life is not as mutable as Jay-Z's seems to be.

So the sum of a human's worth is calculated solely upon the very worst deeds they've ever done, wholeheartedly ignoring any facts you don't like or that you disagree with?

What's the term for someone convicted of a misdemeanour?

I believe they call them "citizens of the United States".

I chose the word "uninformed" and not "stupid", but thank you for trying to misquote and discredit rather than debate and discuss. One can be intelligent and still be ignorant to the facts. I chose the term narrow-minded because of the overwhelming "he's a rapper so he would be a bad president" sentiment amongst those debating this point. Even someone who was, in fact, stupid, would understand my intentions were not to belittle or to slight, but rather to express disdain with those who would draw conclusions without knowing the facts.

I have no idea what I've accused you of. I was enquiring after the health of your business venture since, last time you were here, you were doing very well selling "$700 intakes to morons" (and I recall setting up GT4 competitions for cash) and your business had a most enlightening Freewebs site.

You accused me of acting superior while doing no more than what you were doing, and then you go on to make an underhanded comment about my personal life and try to play it off as a legitimate inquiry. It's the same as if I were to ask you "how's yo momma doin?" and then attempt to argue it was a legitimate and caring question and not a "yo momma" joke. Or if I were to say "are you senile?" because I never said I sold intakes for 700 dollars (pesos possibly) - Would you believe I was actually inquiring because I cared that you could possibly have a degenerative mental health disease related to age - Or would you (correctly) perceive it as a slight?

I know you've previously owned up here to massive hypocrisy, but... seriously?

Seriously... what? Calling someone uninformed who is, in fact, uninformed, asking a question, and then satirically mocking you for your silly and pointless quote. I fail to see where I've brought up a wholly irrelevant component of someone's personal life into the discussion for the sheer self-amusement of attempting to chide them.

This is going nowhere, it's obvious you're incapable of discussing the topic at hand, and would rather resort to sarcastic personal attacks (and then back away from them almost as quickly as you stooped to them) and I refuse to continue to reply to someone attempting to bait me into a flame war. Especially a member of the staff who will more than likely just ban me the first time they feel slighted.

Good day.

Rap to me is nothing more than angry militant whiney crap the same as hard rock an roll is just so much angry screeching and whining.
In fact a good bit of all popular music falls in to same catagory.

Most all of it t amounts to nothing more than a tantrum because someone isn't getting
everything they want and those of like mind relate to such an emotional outburst and buy it.

I vote based on mindset and not bank account or business experience.
No Rapper has the right mindset to be my president and Bill scares me more than the politicians we already have.

By all means listen to whatever you like but anyone putting out that kind of stuff has no business running a free country, IMNSHO.

Because you can speak for every person on the planet?

I don't have to. However, the "vast majority" of those who've chosen to respond - one - have disagreed with your point.

My point was that people would assume Bill Gates a better president than Jay-Z...

No, you said they'd think it was "a great idea". I don't agree that it is, nor that "the vast majority" of people would either.

Sharing an exciting moment of one's life (supposedly amongst friends) =/= crowing about achievement? Are people crowing about achievement when they purchase their first car and post it here? Or what about when they're expecting children?

Who said anything about sharing exciting moments of their lives?

The fact is that not everyone on here has to tell everyone else every detail of their existence - this isn't Facebook. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if there was someone on GTP who'd given $1m to a beneficial cause of their choice - because even rich people can enjoy computer games.

So the sum of a human's worth is calculated solely upon the very worst deeds they've ever done, wholeheartedly ignoring any facts you don't like or that you disagree with?

No, you asked me to show that Jay-Z had done more to harm the people of the planet than I had. Since he's directly caused physical, even life-threatening, harm to two (allegedly three) individuals and I haven't, that's evidence of this point not a summary of Jay-Z's net worth.

"So [reinterpretation]" is a classic technique for not listening to the point.

I believe they call them "citizens of the United States".

Lulz.

I chose the word "uninformed" and not "stupid", but thank you for trying to misquote and discredit rather than debate and discuss.

I didn't quote, thus didn't misquote.

You accused me of acting superior while doing no more than what you were doing

I haven't painted you to be an inferior individual to me and thus not worth paying attention to. You do nothing but that.

and then you go on to make an underhanded comment about my personal life and try to play it off as a legitimate inquiry.

I genuinely don't understand how asking how your business - one you were very proud of last time you were here - is doing can be "an underhanded comment". I was asking how your business is doing, not insulting you.

I never said I sold intakes for 700 dollars (pesos possibly)

Might have been a 700% profit. I forget - my life isn't so bereft of joy that I commit Ghost C facts to memory. There's a 700 in it somewhere.

Or would you (correctly) perceive it as a slight?

So enquiring about your car tuning business is an insult. Thank crap I never phoned up asking for a quote for an air intake.

This is going nowhere, it's obvious you're incapable of discussing the topic at hand

Even more lulz.

All you've ever done is start arguments, insult people and then disappear.

and would rather resort to sarcastic personal attacks (and then back away from them almost as quickly as you stooped to them)

Just to check - your first post called everyone who didn't agree with you "uniformed" (look! A quote!) and "narrow-minded", you followed that up by claiming I feel "inferior" to you and below you accuse me of abuse of position and I'm the one who's "stooped" to "sarcastic personal attacks" for enquiring about your prosperity in the last three years?

How would you have taken it if I'd asked how you've been?

You guys are quick to bash him just because he's a rapper, eh?

Sure am. Don't like it? Tough 🤬 is all I can tell you.

I mean, all the gang bangers I know of do that sort of stuff.

My, my, someone seems to be under the impression they know what other people think. Also (and take notice of this) no one, at least not that I'm currently aware of, has mentioned Bill Gates beside yourself. Oh, and for the record (and just to zest ya') William happens to be a genius. Jay-Z is....not. So, mostly in a purely theoretical state of mind - Bill is already more qualified than Jay-Z. Does that mean he'll make a good, or even acceptable President because of his intellect? No, and no again. I'd be under the impression if he were President, he'd shove a Windows-based ecosystem of some sort down our throats -- wait, what were we talking about?

As for the people who questioned his philanthropy, well, he donated a million dollars to the Red Cross for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. That "water for life" effort with the UN was rather selfless as well. But I'm sure most members here questioning his actions have probably done more, right? Easy to judge from behind the computer. Shame on you guys for doing less to better the world we live in than some "low life thug".

Love making assumptions, do we?

I fail to see how that favors the notion of him being a proper President though.

Personally, I'd vote for Jay-Z before I'd vote for many career politicians. But then again, I'm a convicted felon so my opinion doesn't really matter, does it? It's regrettable that those who can vote are so narrow-minded and uninformed.

And you're entitled to vote for whomever you please; just as it's within my rights to bash, disagree with, or to simply ignore any person whom I do not agree with for such a position of power. I have to ask though (and I believe it's been asked already) why vote for someone who has no previous involvement with politics (that I'm aware of) for a....position surrounded in nothing but politics?

With no opinion for or against the man in question, I'd like to note:

To qualify as a moron, you have to have an IQ of below 69. Unfortunately, the worst you can actually accuse any president of being is "merely above average."

Having studied mental retardation in College, I find it funny how people use the words "Imbecile", "Moron" and "Idiot" glibly.

That is all.

Indeed, when words like ignorant fit so much better in the cases where there is a chance for one both parties to learn something...
...otherwise why engage?

It's when there is no chance for educating on even just one or two minor points
that those labels you mention and others' like stupid are more appropriate. :dopey:

I believe they call them "citizens of the United States".
Who are "they"?

As for the "moron" argument, I do believe both George W. Bush and Barack Obama are very highly educated men with high degrees from prestigious universities. Since you assume that nobody on GTP has a million dollars to donate, I'll assume that presidents Bush and Obama are smarter than you.

Bill Gates could not handle being the President. He would probably have a breakdown in the debates. I would not be surprised if he was on the autism spectrum.

Jay-Z could not handle being the President. It is not as simple as running a large business. There are a myriad of other problems you have to deal with that he wouldn't have experienced while running his recording business.

Because it's non-violent crime. Kind of has its own punishment anyway.
This is completely ignoring the fact that other people are affected by it, right?

That as soon as hard drugs are legal so people can do whatever they want with them (because it's their bodies), they can die & we can have people protesting them to be illegal again?

You let people do whatever they want with their bodies, and huge portions of them will be dead before they reach their mid-20's just b/c most of them wanted to "try" the drugs, not actually become junkies. There is a reason why these drugs are illegal, and it's not so the govt. doesn't "let people do whatever they want with their bodies".

I'm sure suicide should be legal, too?

Why do you keep dragging this thread off topic? We are discussing Jay Z's wanting to run for president not the implications of legalising hard drugs. People die from motor racing and that affects other people in the process; are you suggesting that motor racing should also be made illegal? And suicide may as well be legal as you wouldn't be around to face the penalty for committing it.

There is a difference between what is legal and what is morally or socially acceptable. The difference entails jailing these people rather than helping them.

I've seen cocaine solution dropped on a beating frog heart. All of the cardiac tissue dies. Doing cocaine is slo-mo suicide. Is someone going to not commit suicide because it is illegal? No, these are sick people and their situations are not helped by the use of force and incarceration that are presently employed today.

This is completely ignoring the fact that other people are affected by it, right?
It can lead to that, and when it does the person who committed the crime against the others should be prosecuted as such.

The act of doing cocaine or whatever should not be illegal. No rights are being violated by doing it, except that the user is technically taking his own right to life. But as has been mentioned before, there shouldn't be anything illegal about killing yourself either.

Did you mean death metal?

No, I meant any R&R music where the voice gets raised to a yelling
or screaming volume or they change to anything but singing
and the harmony, if any, between the lyrics and melody fades to distortion.

Don't get me wrong, I like Roger Daltry's singing of "Behind Blue Eyes" at times
but it's still just so much whiney anger being put out and I won't listen to that kind of stuff 24/7.

Then don't. What are you even complaining about? :odd:

Let's keep this thread on topic folks.
