I wonder if all that time spent at posh events like Pebble Beach has influenced the way Kaz views car culture? Obsessing over extremely rare (and expensive) old one-offs surrounded by people who never have to think about money.

It's a world away from trackdays, owners club meetings and almost all forms of racing. I'd argue this is more 'rich culture' he's trying to simulate, but even the likes of the original Test Drive Unlimited does that so much better as a game to enjoy.
I have thought about this. Even tying in with Hagerty feels kind of “classist” with the real values and the expensive microtransactions. This is a video game after all.

Hagerty members also apparently get a free Legendary car per year, which didn’t seem like a big deal at all until I realized how expensive these cars really were. How about you give the free legendary car to all users per year (after a task) instead of patting Hagerty members on the back.

please people don't have a go at me but, what is the point of road cars in this game. okay scapes is one, then slogging through first sunday cup races... then.... ?? road cars are not designed for racing around a circuit, so what is the point in them in a game where you can only go around circuits (and admitedly use scapes but I don't think that justifies it)?
Production car racing is very exciting, and has been a crowd pleaser for many decades. The spectators feel they can relate to many of the cars, since they own, or have owned, cars they are seeing on track.

Watch this video and tell me if you don’t see any attraction-

Great post. Yes, standard road cars are a mainstay of the franchise. I actually wish they had more in GT7.

OT: For some, the excitement was a little too much. I recall a Datsun 1200's left front wheel breaking off while taking Mt Panorama's Hell Corner. The car stopped safely at the beginning of Mountain Straight. (The good news was that Datsun's wheels were built stronger after that incident.)

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Kazunori Yamauchi Responds to Gran Turismo 7 Fan Outrage

Following one of the most difficult days in the 25-year history of Gran Turismo, series founder Kazunori Yamauchi has released a statement to fans regarding the future of Gran Turismo 7 — just two weeks into the title’s life...

So basically I will have to play accordingly to the desires o Yamauchi? Like I paid for the game and cannot play the way I want to play... It's kind like of a censorship of gamplay... That's just... Great really

O.Z
From hero to zero...

For me, GT3 A-spec remains as the top dog of the series. GT7 is rubbish. I'm out.
Such a sad state this game is in. So much potential wasted. Everything was leading up to what could have been the best game in the series, but as it has been said before time and time again, they ruined it all for the sake of the almighty dollar.

People are forgetting that it's a relatively new game. It's not meant to be perfect out of the box. It hasn't even had its first FREE content update yet.
Dude, this is what's bad with this industry. How are you selling an unfinished product? How are you selling a product you're not proud of? Remember the days when updates where simply not possible. GT4 for example was a work of art any game developer could be proud of. It was a complete game, it had tons more content and it never got an update after launch. Why are developers shipping games that need to be finished after release? Unfortunately, this is more common nowadays than it should.

Kids these days (my generation) seem to be hopelessly addicted to the new live-service model of being drip-fed content throughout a game's "life cycle", that could easily have been present in the release version like it would have been ten years ago. Personally it just seems like more incentive to wait until a year after release, when the game is available at an 80% reduction, to jump in and enjoy a finished product.
The difference is that you couldn't update the game easily for everyone. There were plenty of unfinished games in the past that we sucked up because there was no way of adding more content. Others were crappy finished concepts like 'Pimp My Ride', or from what I've heard, Devil May Cry 2. I'm not even sure where Spiderman 3 even fits on this scale.

Anyway, there's a whole site dedicated towards this sort of stuff.

Great website

I'm glad I got a full refund on this dumpster fire of a game, the cafe is stupid and so is the fact that you have to unlock locations via the moronic menu books. I'd buy GT7 again if they eliminated the cafe and having to unlock locations, not for $90 though, $40 is a more reasonable price.
Yeah, and implement the proper career mode we all know and love. Start with 10-20k, buy a ****-box, and start grinding the Sunday Cup, et al to move up in the world.

It's very clear now why they structured the content the way they did, as in not being able to see all of the races right from the start, knowing what you have to work up to. Had it been the traditional style we've seen in every other game where you select the license/race category and then go into a menu filled with races of that type, all that would have been there is National B and National A, so they had to cover it up.

Everyone would have known from day 1 (and before due to game reviewers) that only 2/5 of the normal career content was on offer.
So it was deliberately hidden in this ridiculous "Cafe" to buy them a couple of weeks of good PR, positive reviews, and ensure most cannot receive refunds once the "early access" nature of the title was revealed.

This is one of the most sneaky, underhanded game releases I've ever seen in AAA gaming, and there have been a lot of horrible launches designed to trick consumers, so that's saying something. PD and Sony Studios are at EA/Activision-Blizzard levels of awful at this point.

really sad that they aren't posting on instagram and twitter, i will really enjoy that moment to give my bad review and read all the bad comments, however i don't understand people that enjoy being poor in gt7, i paid for a game and i must have correct payouts to buy and tune the cars, PD must give me the possibility to buy these cars at a certain point of the game not with 40h of wild grinding, i had all gt's in my life but this is the most unfair i have never seen, all other gt's balance in term of cars/prizes/upgrades were fair, in gt1-2-3 there were lower payouts but much lower car prices, in gt4 we had most expensive cars at 4.5 and very good money, 5 good and 6 maybe too much, in sports very good, in the 7 is a S*, if they wont change ASAP payouts, i think for the first time quit the game, i don't accept PD's fake ideals, in 3 patches they didnt even patch custom gearbox of some cars, lobby sucks, sport mode sucks, payout sucks, custom race sucks and Cpu cant even put wet tyres, career incomplete, and PENALTY SISTEM still BROKEN after several years of gt sport, THEY DON'T CARE OF ANYTHING, EXCEPT FIXING MONEY TO STOP GRINDING, GOOD JOB

100% true !
As it is the singleplayer experience is absolute garbage, absolutely no feel of progression at all
PD should correct this aspect from scratch...

the narrative makes no sense either, like zero it’s just a mess of collecting cars for some weird cafe owner and then suddenly you are a professional racing driver. even separating these into different groups with alternative dialogue, Luca does his waffle about collecting, and the other guy could be developing your motor racing career then when you get to the nice cut scenes before the the WTC races that would have a bit of context

I've been playing Gran Turismo since GT2. I preordered the 25th Edition, which costs 100€. Now, let's start with the problems...

I'm honestly happy about the new game progression, to me Cafes are different and entertaining, but it also annoys me having to complete almost all of them just to play on Le Mans for example. However, the problems are the events. They are very limited and boring, I prefer without any doubt the old school races.

Nowadays the formula is simple. 70 bucks for the game, then another 40 or 50 for a season pass and lots of "microtransactions" and DLC's if you want to be competitive (EA, looking at you...). But you can't make a GT like this. I mean, I could understand paying 2 or 3€ to get a very exclusive car, but always having the option to obtain it through progressing in the game. It makes absolutely no sense to spend more than the game itself costs to buy a single car.

They don't like people to grind? Well, that's how lots of games works. Simply add a proper campaign and give reasonable prizes to players. Then, and probably the most important thing... remove microtransactions and put decent prices to the in-game cars. What's the point of adding new content if people is not even able to try it? What's the point of showcasing the ******* Jag XJ13 if it costs 12000000cr and anybody can buy it?

When I pay 100€, i want a complete game and i don't want to spend a single more euro. As somebody pointed out, GT4 had no updates after launch, and i'ts still one of the best racing games ever made. In 2022 almost every game feels unfinished. I honestly enjoyed the updates of GT Sport, it was a way to keep players entertained with new content, but GT7 has the same lack of content that Sport had. But come on, you've had more than 4 years to add like 50 completely new cars and to update another 30 or 40. Same for tracks, only an updated version of Trial Mountain and High Speed Ring, Daytona and two or three new layouts. Not to go deeper into that, because the new Alsace Test Track looks like a fast creation with the Course Maker.

The game lacks in content, in road and normal cars. What happened to cheap hatchbacks, to wagons or even the saloons? You show me through a Cafe the histoy of Alfa Romeo, and the best you has to offer is a MiTo?

I'm very dissapointed with Polyphony and Sony. They see players as living-wallets, and it's all centered in money and more money, not taking care of the game experience or to us.

However, I still think GT7 is a very good game, and that it has lot of potential. Graphics are just nice, the detail put into lots of things is just outstanding. Physics feels great and there are stuff like the Tuning shops which is absolutely perfect. I hope they'll fix it asap and that they'll do something with the broken economy. Also, is it me or used cars are hell expensive?

I was really considering getting back into the series with GT7. Unfortunately, the game's economy has effectively wrecked any chance of that happening. I can only hope that PD sees sense at some point but I honestly doubt it.

So I contacted PlayStation to ask for a refund, pointing out three examples of false advertising...

  • “With the reintroduction of the legendary GT Simulation Mode, buy, tune, race AND SELL your way through a rewarding solo campaign…” - (No, we can't sell our cars)
  • “With over 420 cars available at Brand Central and the Used Car Dealership from day one…” - (No there were not "over 420 cars" available. Today, of the total 424 cars, 5 are "sold out" and many are just not in the stores to buy)
  • “Online play optional” - No, Online Play is a requirement to have access to owned cars, their tunes and liveries, racing suits and helmet ownership and liveries, replays, Scapes photos and Race photos, time trial lap time records and so on. NONE OF THE DATA SAVED ON MY PS4 IS ACCESSIBLE WHEN OFFLINE, SO IT’S NOT “OPTIONAL”.
... and the changes made to the economy in the latest 1.08 patch.

The chat did not finish up well.

  • Erick E.:Thank you so much for the details I understand you would like to get a refund for the content however let me shared with you that, In this case, payment was taken more than 14 days ago. I'm sorry, due to the restrictions outlined in the PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy; a refund cannot be made for this transaction.
  • Erick E.:I cannot thank you enough for your understanding. Please remember you contacted us today to get a refund the reason as to why cannot be done has been shared, at this time we are unable to provide the solution expected. Before we say goodbye please tell me, is there any other question or anything else I can try to assist you with today?
About 2 seconds later, he typed this...
  • Erick E.:Thanks for contacting PlayStation please enjoy the rest of your day
... and immediately disconnected me from the chat!

It's true, I did pre-pay. I paid for GT7 on February 14th, which more than 14 days ahead of March 4th. So I was screwed the day I paid.

So no more pre-ordering from the Playstation Store for me.

So, the forum shows you posted this around 9pm, my time. It's currently 2:21pm; the number has jumped from 4,109 to 4,862 (in fact, it's jumped 20 after a refresh).

This is merely an observation, but I will admit I'm surprised it's still taking a beating.

For what it's worth, their pre order policy is refundable up until the games release date. I canceled my MLB 22 preorder last week that I had placed around February 6th. But in this case, obviously, that doesn't apply.
The biggest difference between pre-ordering the last few games is less and less content. If my memory is correct, gt5 came with 25 stealth cars and gt6 came with like 10 cars? It's been a long time and I didn't do any research into either figure, but the overall economy of this game is ridiculous. It almost makes me think it's not Kaz in control of the micro transactions (or potentially payouts), and they're putting up these 18m credit cars immediately to prove a point to Sony. The game economy hasn't been like this.

Not a chance, sorry. You don't frame an entire game around FOMO and MTs on a whim.

There are TED talk-esque things out there on MTs and how developers come up with them, they're never on a whim
Every idiotic game design choice in GT is the whim of we know who.

So anwer me, do you think they ran test groups ? did market research and they came out posative with such MTX pricing and in game economy.

Plus the MTC pricing is not the real issue here, its the in game real world pricing of rare cars tied to it thats the issue. And we know damn well whos brain dead idea that it.

GT7 is likely to be the last of its kind. I don't see a GT8 in the future simply because cars like we used to know them are being replaced with EVs

So your wish is almost a foregone conclusion.
Doubt it would have any effect on racing games. If it has any effect, it could be a positive one, as it will represent something that was "lost", the combustion engine. It could be used as a celebration/homage. Any modern car from today, will be a classic in the future, some of them highly desirable. Their presence in a game, just perpetuates their legacy, kind of like a museum, but those cars in the game, you can actually drive.

I dont care about the decisions, that have been made at polyphony. I understand Kaz. It’s his vision.

I was mad first but I realized, that I have already 110 cars :embarrassed: and most of them hasn't beed used and experienced so far.

I used to grind a lot on fischermans ranch and now as I recall myself during that time I think that I was pathetic. It’s a relief, no more grinding, I play for fun.

We need more events to use cars that we own. That's the only problem. Hopefully it'll change soon.

There's a car in that legendary dealership worth 180 euro in mtx😂. Mindblowing... hope this game gets fixed and if not then hopefully this is the last gt ever. Playing since gt1 and never have felt this insulted because of a game.
