New seasonal: british lightweights + info and OCD update

Saw a few people in this thread saying they beat it with a stock Elise... that's quite an achievement, I'd say.

I have a beautiful Elise Type 72 '01 that I'd like to keep stock (and CS), but the best I manage on Tsukuba are lap times around 1:09, which leads at best to 6th place and about 30-40 seconds to first in the end. Now I don't have any illusions on coming first with that car anytime soon, but I'm sure there is room for improvement.

Is there a special way of driving the Elise (stock, mind you)? Not too fast into the bend, steady on the way through and very easy on the throttle on the way out seems to be the best I can manage without having to stop a time consuming drift afterwards...

TBH you're not going to win with a stock Type 72 - even the 111's are quicker. You have to remember that the opposition are tuned themselves.

Tsukuba is fine in slower cars and for few laps. If you've ever done the 9 hour endure you'll know the meaning of the word 'chore'

Amen to that.

The hardest thing in GT5 for me was that horrible 9hr Endurance Race at Tsukuba :grumpy:

I enjoyed 24h Le Mans and 24h Nordschleife soooo much more :dopey::drool:

I like Tsukuba and I never get bored with it.

I did all the British events last night but I only get the suits and helmets for first place in each event. I finished 2nd at the first attempt around London and won one paint and then did the race again and won.

What is the logic of not getting all three available prizes when you win? Why would you need to constantly finish 2nd to win paints? This is completely daft.

the mount aso track is hilarious.. at the end, on the straight look in your rear view to see the AI all crash

The Mount Arse track is yet another fine example of why a full track editor shouldn't be given to users. Honestly, it's their own damned editor and they still punt out these ridiculous tracks..!! The Mount Arse tracks are by far the worst, the Eifel ones seem to be ok, and the Toscana, when they don't put stupid amounts of camber on the track...:grumpy:

it's almost impossible to not crash on the final corner of Mt. Aso. If you don't crash, you're losing a bit of time creeping up to the blind corner. I hate that 1st gear 20mph turn.

Haha, it is a bit unrealistic but you take every course as you find it I guess. I've tried a wide line which seems to work the best without losing too much momentum. But too much speed - however tight you are - and you're in the fence opposite (with everyone else!).

That's about the size of it. Asides from the ridiculous nature of the final corner, the AI crash out here e.v.e.r.y.t.i.m.e. There's no race to be had, you could probably walk it than the AI drive...

I saw a Lotus Elan in the UCD, so I decided to liven that up for the event.

Engine Rebuild
Chassis Overhaul
Full weight reduction
Rigidity Improvement
Full Engine mods (Except no turbo)
Full Driveline Upgrades (Except no LSD)
Middle of Range Suspension Option
Soft Race Slicks

WOW what a fun car to drive. Really enjoyed the event with this. Have shared it now so if you want a drive, just add me :)

Nurburgring and London were quite a nice challenge in this car

Is that car bought from second hand? Might give it a try? How much power?

I'm having a blast in the new seasonal using my stock detuned (245hp) TVR Tamora. Tskuba and Cote d'Azur weren't difficult but London is turning out to be a little challenging.

It was kind of funny at Cote d'Azur because the AI kept spinning out and hitting the wall. I saw quite a few AI cars spinouts watching the replay.

The first time I ran this - with an Esprit 350 - the Elise in P1 span out spectacularly at the Casino bend handing me the win. It was so bad I thought it must be one of my Bobs! :)

I had my first "drift" experience in GT5, using the VX220 Turbo at the Nordschleife seasonal. I made 3 errors or so, and still caught 1st place, luckily, at the final straight.

what do you need to do to win money on the time trial and drift??

I didnt think you won money on those events

To win money in the Time Trials, you need to beat one of the trophy times (Gold = all 3 prizes) and you can win each prize only once.

For the Drift Trials, you need to beat the 3 point levels. Again, Gold = all 3 prizes and you can win each prize only once.

Tried this last night with the Fireblade. Didn’t upgrade the engine and added exactly two kilograms of ballast to the car to bring it to the requisite 550 PP, then added the necessary drivetrain parts to make it quicker… it desperately needed a box and suspension –as stiff as possible-, then differential and clutch changes, and finally tires. It still has a stock engine, but it has grown a lot quicker with each upgrade. It’s been fun. I’ll see if I can win all of the events without putting more power to the ground.

I finished all seasonal races for the British Lightweights in my Tuscan Speed 6. It was pretty easy, too. As for the OCD update, it's so-so. I'm not a really big fan of Rally Cars.

I agree with Splat about the comment of Rally Cars. I did buy a few cars from the OCD but I really miss the Bentley Speed 8 which I failed to snag. :( That said I am using the Tuscan Speed 6 (playing with the 6axis every driver aid turned off except TC and ABS @ 1) and I have completed 3-4 of the tracks in the seasonal event so far but London is giving me a fair bit of trouble. The problem with the Tuscan Speed 6 is that it has a bit of a reluctant turnin I think so I probably need to fart around with the suspension settings.

Does anyone have recommendations for the time trials? I do not have the r390 nor the NSX LM which seem to be populate choices. Are there any other cars that handle well on the Indy course?

Thanks!

Agreed.. I don't even understand what suits and helmets are for, or horns for that matter? Maybe they have a trading or online racing purpose I'm not aware of..

Without a full paint preview I can waste several colors trying to find the right one. I've even bought cars just to have the paint color!

But at least I have 20 helmets in one style, and 20 suits in another, that I don't care about or know how to put on even if I wanted to look at my virtual self clashing in style!

I don't mind wining the paint chips but there is no reason why we just can buy them or at the least buy the standard colored paint chip from the dealerships instead of buy a car for it's paint chip. I completely agree that we should have a paint preview!

The McLaren Mp4-12c qualifies and is my favourite car that does.

The Jaguar and Aston Martin can't get below 1300kg

McLarens? Pfft. You need a real car. One that can fly.

Oh, and watch for the last corner on Mt.Aso, if you haven't been taking that one REALLY wide before, you'll need to with the Fireblade. Or that happens. 👍

Have you tried getting the paints from the event? What did you get?
I got normal paints, but weird thing is I didn't have any of them before, even that I have ~950 chips.
I got: Gran Turismo Green Metallic (from Mazda Furai), Sebring Silver Metalic from Chevrolet and Azzurro Gabbiano Metallizzato from Alfa.

And in description it says "specially selected by Gran Turismo" or something like that. I was expecting Matte and Chrome paints...

I love how the driver is still looking down the track, even as he is about to disappear down the side of the mountain.
