So here's what I'm thinking; Saturday, January 18 at 3pm EST we will do a Daytona 24 inspired race with the BMW M2 GT3 '10, '11 and Base Model, everyone can choose as they please (the cars are identical). Tuning prohibited, of course. We'll try to get a decent mix of the models so the grid looks diverse.

41 laps will be approx 1.24 hours, on SS tires with FAST fuel/tire wear and light damage. 2 stops will be necessary for fuel which will deplete before tires. There will be full time cycle, start in the light, through dark and back to light to finish.

I have a few more details to iron out but that's the gist of it.

Sounds good...trying to post a couple of pics but keep getting server error. Later maybe.

There are lots of reports that the set of tires you get after a pitstop don't last nearly as long and constantly screech, even on straights. It's worst on racing tires. I think the race I did Sunday was on sport tires, I made a stop at lap 17 and the second set survived the last 16 laps just fine. I'll have to confirm I was on sports though.

Wow, some things stay the same with this community and it's good to see you guys are still here knocking about. :) Is the Daytona thing open to anyone or is it by invite only?

That looks awesome. Where do I get the M3 GT2 base model? I can't seem to find it in BMWs dealership. Do I have to unlock it somehow?

I have the anniversary edition and can see a good number of base model cars, but not that one.

Confused.

For some reason I think you have to buy the M3 GT '11 first then the base model will appear in the dealership. It's weird

I was about to do that, but then I ran the full livery version on Sarthe in a two lap race in arcade mode and, like magic, the base model showed up in my dealerships. :)

I never bought anything else. What I did though is drive that M3 in arcade time trial (WRS registry qualifier). And then base model appeared in the dealership.

edit: nevermind, should've refreshed the thread ;)

Are you guys still doing this through ORCA_Champ?

No, unfortunately that system doesn't work anymore as we don't have our own private lobbies. We just have the option when creating a room to make it "friends only" which works about the same as the private lounge did except that it doesn't exist when the creator is offline so others can't use it (i.e. ORCA_Champ didn't have to be online for people to use the lounge). The "community update" coming next month may provide a substitute for this but we don't know for sure. For now it will just be in a "friends only" room hosted from my PSN account so everyone will have to add me.

A thread for the Daytona race will be up sometime tomorrow in the "single race" sub-forum. I'll post a link here when it's ready for prime-time....or when the thread is live, whichever comes first. :sly:

I'll try out the car this weekend. See how I feel with it. And see what my lap times are. What is the average lap for everyone?? So I can get an idea.

My best is a 1:49.9x, JP was in the :48's. I'd say :50's or :51's should be good.

You can always come and keep me company in the 1:55's!

RDA, we need more people like you.

I may just take that into coñsiderstion. I'm not as fast as most of the regulars here, but I enjoy the racing...

Only a few of the regulars here are fast, a lot of us are mid-packers or less (myself included). My best may have been 1:49.9 but that was the only time I dipped below :50 and my average was high :50's/low :51's. We'll just have fun in the back of the pack while JohnnyP and DSG fight for the win at the lonely front of the pack.

Ok, I had to google "craic".....it means something entirely different than I thought! I suppose we should take it as a compliment. :)

Oh, and by the way Mr. Vark, we still have a few spots open for you............https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...-bmw-m3-gt-spec-race-jan-18th-3pm-est.295904/ :sly:

Craic, pronounced 'crack', is a good Irish word which can have a lot of meanings but generally means good conversation with lots of laughs.

I'm still pondering which car to use and what colour scheme to use!

I don't think we really have a synonym for craic over here........well, at least not that the swear filter won't censor! We call it "shooting the s:censored:t" or "bulls:censored:ing".

You know what other word doesn't have a synonym??

........wait for it.................

Synonym!!

Boom!

Under recursion in my dictionary it say "See recursion".

Sh:censored:its and giggles is another synonym, but I'm not sure where that one originates.

Sh:censored:ts and giggles is another synonym, but I'm not sure where that one originates.

My printer technician says "grins and giggles", he's not supposed to swear in front of customers but I know what he means. And I remember a movie that featured a German restaurant called Schnitz 'N Giggles.

I've been considering a re-boot of the group and going with a different name but I might end up sticking with the ORCA name since people already know it. Here's a new logo concept, slightly modified from another logo for a different name I had created, but I think it works for ORCA too.
