Comfort Soft tires, and tracks are still being decided. Tonight's activities will be short 5-lap races on various tracks, sort of testing out the tracks.

Oh yea, I'll be there! :D

I scanned through most of this thread...did I miss what tracks will be used or is it going to be a random draw the night of the race?

My apologies guys, I didn't think about the fact that people who haven't been following all the discussion may have a hard time figuring out what's going on. We just recently decided on a firm direction and I'm still trying to settle on the final details so I haven't made a main OP with the important info (there will be a new thread for the official program with important details conspicuously posted).

I plan on selecting a track each week and we'll just stay at that track, just like DeadNuts does and like we would do for a points series. That way everyone gets to really know the car/track combo and as the night/week goes on the racing should get better and better (in theory). It also makes it easier for people besides me to open the lounge on a random night and get some racing going, just load up the track for the week and let people know you have the lounge open. đź‘Ť I haven't decided on all of them for the first go-round yet.

For tonight let's go to GVE-R, usually pretty good racing there and I won't be using that version for the official list. The first couple turns should be a fairly tame in these cars. :nervous: I'll be on in 45-60 minutes but feel free to open it early if someone gets froggy.

Oh yeah, you can race in your choice of the BRZ, FR-S or 86 GT on Comfort Soft tires. Tuning will be prohibited and the restriction will be set to 381pp which is what a brand new car + oil change comes to (so you can go buy it tonight, change the oil and come race without having to break it in). Just use the power limiter to dial it back a few PP if you're already broken in.

Note: For some reason the FR-S is 381pp and the other two are 382pp, so we'll just set it for 381 to keep the Scion from looking like it's at a disadvantage.

But it's a Scion... It should be at a disadvantage... :sly:

EDIT:

*** Brandon, your PP figures are no longer accurate as they have changed for this car with the 2.11 update ***

Confirmed, PP went way up but they still all match numbers, we should be ok

New PP Figures bought new with oil change:

Scion FR-S 408 PP

Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 GT 409 PP

So it looks like 408 PP is the magic number.

Thank you sir, hadn't thought of that. Looks like they're back to where they were.

I'll be on in about 5 minutes.

Here is what I found.

New with oil change;

BRZ; 409PP/202HP@7000/153ft-lb@6500
FR-S; 408PP/202HP@7000/153@6500
I did not buy another 86 GT as I suspect it the same as the BRZ.

Broken in but reduced to 408PP

BRZ; 199HP@6900/158ft-lb@6500
FR-S; 200@7200/158@6500
86 GT; 199@6900/158/6500

Weird.

Well, that was a lot of fun! And that was some of the best racing I've ever seen with this group, I almost thought I was back in JP's parity race we were so close for so long. In the 7 lap race p2-p6 were separated by less than 3 seconds. đź‘Ť

That's pretty much what I have picture for the new format: 15-20 minutes of practice and then lots of races, start with some shorter ones and work our way up to longer ones. I coulda gone for 15 laps on that last one. Then finish up the night with a silly race on an oval. :dopey:

True fact, I'm watching the new Top Gear and they're doing a piece on the 86 GT.

Watched that earlier today, so glad BBC America is picking up the new season a week after it airs in the UK, best thing they could have done.

I agree, I usually hate anything in a british accent, but I think the English Top Gear in English kills the American Top Gear in English.

Meh, any delay more than a few hours is unacceptable to me. After all how much time do they really need to do a proper job blurring paintings of gentlemen' sausages...?

They can take all the time they want to blur out the gentlemen sausages, because I have no interest in seeing that. Lady gardens on the other hand... :sly:

Nice to see you back on track TB7.

So, any comments, thoughts or suggestions about how things went last night? We got a whole lot of racing done in an hour and a half, so at least the "need more racing" part has been addressed. I certainly would enjoy doing that a couple times a week. đź‘Ť I plan on keeping the format simple to start but flexible so we can make any necessary adjustments as we go. We can start off with one car for the month but if it proves to get stale we can add another car and do one for two weeks then switch and do the other one for two weeks. We can have themes, special events and possibly even spawn a new points championship.

I welcome any feedback. It was nice to see a good sized group last night.

Here's how close we were after 7 laps 10 laps around GVE-R, fantastic battle for second place! On lap 9 the gap was even less. :sly:

I think that picture was the 10 lap race..... the 7 lapper, I "actually" in 2nd. Believe it or not! :sly: and there was about 5 of us all within a second to the finish.
None the less, it was overall good racing. Enjoyed racing with everyone. This car is fun to drive. With the "reverse grid" on it got me a bit tense because I knew I'd be starting in the front for the most part. And i'm usually slower than most. I didn't want to mess anybody up or slow them down. But I knew it was just for fun so I tend to drive different and push more and be aggressive. Where it was for points, I stay conservative and back off a bit...Not wanting to mess them up or slow them down.

I'll try to make it to the next session.

Fixed. It was good to see you on track and even better to see you running up front. You did a fine job and run at the point for several laps. For me, part of the point of the reverse grid is to let people who normally run mid-to-back of the pack get some experience running up front and with traffic. We'll never get better at handling those situations if we're never exposed to it. đź‘Ť

It was a good bit of fun last night. It felt as much more time had passed because of the quick succession of races. That is a good thing. I don't 'race' as much as just drive anymore, but I had a great time racing which I haven't experienced outside of our weekly fooling round in a while.

Great to see a bunch of folks out that I haven't in a while. A lot of nice laps were turned and it was nice to see the pack stay together. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to drive side by side with just about everyone at one point or another. A lot of different names in P1 throughout the evening suggest the format is going to work well. Great runs from Ace and TB7, Owens and Mudd; a lot of close quarters was enjoyable.

My apologies to Tor for contributing to an excessive entry speed on the opening lap of the last GVE-R, and to those who had to drive around me in the first race when I disengaged.

I hope to have many more evenings like that!

Thanks for the apology but I didnt notice anything on your part, Ive been consistantly running into the walls of the 1st and 2nd corners on GVE-R for the past week or two. Maybe I should slow down but driving full throttle is the only way I know how.

since day one.

Haven't we all?? Any configuration of Grand Valley gets my vote for "best of" but turns 1 and 2 at GVE-R would also get my vote for "worst of". T1 in these cars was a trip though, I'd ease off the throttle to settle the car, gently start to apply pressure to the brak........HOLD ON, WE'RE SLIDING!!!!!! :scared:

These cars seemed to aero-push quite badly last night compared any other time I can remember... I've raced the BRZ quite a bit and never experienced aero-push like that prior to the 2.11 update.

Anyone been complaining of different aero effects since the update? I'm too scared to venture into the unknown waters of the general forums. :scared:

I am too. :nervous: I didn't find the aero-push to be extreme, just unpredictable which can be as bad or worse.

I havn't see any mention of aero changes, but I will tell you that turn 1 at GVE-R is one of the worst corners in the game for aerodynamics. Coming off a long strait into a wide sweeper with no banking and its followed immediately by a much tighter corner that forces early brake apply. I had issues with the draft off the car in front of me the other night while a few of us ran there. Having a three-wide pack of cars in front of you magnifies the effect even more. It really wouldn't surprise me if you just noticed it because of the large amount of pack-racing we accomplished last night.

GVE in general seems to have more aero effect than most tracks I can remember. I have done NASCAR and Camaro RM there before, a lot of the same stuff more so than other road courses.
