Playstation 3 System Update Thread

Have you restarted your system? Have you rebooted your modem and router?

And how long has it been doing it? If it is more than a day and you have restarted your whole network then I suggest calling Sony.

It started doing it today, ironically after I installed update 3.10 the day before. And no, I haven't rebooted the router.

EDIT: It didn't work.

Got it to log on, Had to find the WPA key and entered it. Works great now and apperently, it wasn't 3.10 as I thought before. I'm happy again:)

There is another issue regarding trophy syncing, when I googled it, the error code popping up didn't match mine. Check the error code and give it a google, see what comes up.

Well the restore didnt work as it shut-down about 3/4 the way through the restore, did a restart and a format, again with no luck.
Back to Sony I guess :(

The facebook things are kinda pointless me thinks, that said I'd at least like them to detail exactly whats new and where it is when you update, it's a little silly that we have to go searching for these new features.

YLOD? Call Sony? I f you still in warranty then you should, if not look up YLOD fix oven cook on youtube, sounds crazy, but usually works. 👍




As for the big improvement that my PS3 browser is now unable to play most videos... has anyone found a fix for that? Or is it just what it looks like, a downgrade. :dunce:

Well my PS3 is back off to Sony for a fourth time, I have opted for a refurbished 80gig rather than repair mine again as Im sick of returning it.
Bit of a bummer since I shelled out for the extras like the USB ports, however I just want one that works!

To tell me on PSN itself after I update, I don't go searching the internet everytime, if it wasn't for GTP i wouldn't even know there was a facebook function. It's especially painful because I update my PS3 on the PS3 (I'm usually not aware of the update until I can't sign into PSN), then I'd have to turn that off, change the cable into my laptop, go find the information, power down the laptop (to log out of the university system as the PS3 doesn't like it otherwise), change cables again, sign into the Uni network on the PS3, and then sign into PSN to use the feature. A lengthy process to find out I can update trophy information for facebook, or even more lengthy if it's just 'functionality improvements'.

Side note: I can't reply again for a short while, perhaps a day, for the sake of an arrangement regarding my 3000th post as I sit on 2999 now.
 
I can't use vidzone anymore, fatal error every time i try to login... says it's only available in, UK, Germany,... etc., strange since I AM in Germany and it worked before...

Don't know if it was the System update or the 1.05 vidzone update or something else, I delete and reinstalled all vidzone data, but it didn't help. :(
Also resetting the modem and reboot the console didn't help.

Anyone else has this?




I really hate updates, I never update my PC and guess what - no problems there, right.

But gaming console keeps giving trouble. :banghead:

Turn on the news feed on the PS3? I can't turn it off in the US and I know that for us it shows the latest headlines from the Blog. I haven't used it in a while but I think you can even scroll back through them.

But then again, I am not sure why "check the manual" isn't the initial reaction when trying to find something. It is built into the XMB and updated with each firmware update. You don't have to do anything more than click an icon on your PS3.

All this said, I feel that they should have a more detailed change log . Way too often it just says it is adding certain functions and leaves it at that.

Or just use the PS3's browser and have a bookmark for the blog. When you get a new update go to the blog on the browser and check past posts for their video walkthroughs of the new features. You are making this much more difficult than you need to.

Yeah, I get the same problem here, on two different connections set up completely differently and its happened multiple times on each. It gets to about 7% then stops and gives an error, try again and it usually only gets to 2%. :confused: Would appreciate it if anyone knew what was going on. 👍

I have no clue what's going on, but if you go to Trophy collection ( above Games ), then cancel that, you should be able to see your trophies. If that worked go to a friend who's offline and do trophy compare... that should do the trick ( about 50% chance )... if you had no luck, try all over again.

This is the only way I can get my trophies to sync, since a couple of weeks. :bummer:

I was having trouble synching as well, but when I looked online I saw that people said if you are persistant it eventually works. So, I tried a few more times and it finally went through.

It adds data transfer capabilities so that with just an ethernet cable you can move all your stuff to a second PS3, and it will allow the PSP Minis to play on the PS3.


There is still some question about how that will work since their press release made it sound like they had to be updated to do that.

I'm hoping Blast Off will work. That is a fun game.
 
It doesn't move copy protected saves though, so if anybody is looking to "upgrade" from an older PS3 to the new slim version, it is still impossible without losing progress in games with locked saved files. :(

Does this data transfer thing delete all data from your old PS3, when you do a data transfer ? Old noob needs to know before he screws something up!

Hhhmmm, despite what was said on the EU PlayStation Blog, it turns out this wasn't entirely accurate. Copy protected saves are moved as well. Yay!

I am interested in the matter of transferring copy protected game save files between systems, and I wish that I could read what ever is posted in the link that you provided. But I can't because all I get when I click on your link is an error message.

Anyway, after reading through comments on the Playstation Blog about Firmware Update 3.15, I get the impression that although you may be able to transfer locked game saves from PS3(A) to PS3(B) with this new utility, the original copy that was on PS3(A) gets deleted once the process is completed.

In addition, at least one poster indicated that although he could play some particular (protected save file) game from his PS3(B), he was no longer able to earn additional trophies.

If these two things actually happen if you perform the transfer, then I believe that this new capability is much more than just.....utterly useless.
 
It's a pic of the Data Transfer Utility option in the XMB, and it reads as follows: "[snip] Even saved data that is copy-protected can be transferred (moved)."
 
I wish they would have put the Minis inside the PS3 save folder. I had to toss out nearly all of my themes because of how much the Minis folder screwed them up.
 
3.15 is now a force download, not fair. I opted not to download it and now I need it, cant it be included in the next update?
