PMC Discussion Thread: 3.0 Interest Check

I'll just post it here. Don't know where else to go with this idea.....:sly:

I'm too busy to do it on my own, but if someone wants to......

here it is:

The winner of each week (you/me for the first week) posts a unedited picture with the link to its full size. The picture should be pretty neutral.
After the pic is posted, everyone (who wants to compete) download it and edit over it how they like it.
Everyone gets the same picture, but can edit it the way they like. No limits, nothing.
Then post it in the thread like its usual done.

I would like to see how everyone edit the picture different. Should be an interesting competition. At least in my opinion!

What do you guys think of it? Anyone interested?

ouuuh, haven't seen this before! 💡

But what happened to the old! idea.....? Someone wants to bring it back?

There's something interesting coming up next week; the old veterans who were around in the GT4 days might remember it, but for the new guys, it's something that's a lot of fun for all of us, a nice retrospective. You'll see in a few days!

Also; prizes! They're back, and it's finally sorted. I'm just popping out for a few hours, so details will be posted once I return. I will be trying to switch it up from the default "any car under the trade limit" stipulation though, just to make things interesting :D

2.0 Advanced Competition == Premier League

Photomode Competition == FA Cup

Photomode/Photoshop Competition == Champions League

Certain Car Certain Location Competition == Carling Cup

Secret Santa Competition == Johnstone Paint Trophy?

Dunno, just felt like putting this out there.

EDIT: Photomode Tournament == Club World Cup

Continuing the discussion we had the other week in CCCL comp about allowed filters, I added this line to "you may not do" list:

  • Add effects that make the picture look something other than a photograph.

I know that leaves gray areas as well but it should cover most cases without writing a very long list of banned modifications. If this leads in problems later we can of course change this rule to something else.

So, some users have brought to my attention various shortcomings with Photobucket right now, both (hopefully) temporary, and some things more permanent.

Resizing seems to be a problem (thanks to Sam48 for mentioning it). My suggestion would be to find another service that does do it, if you have no way of resizing on your computer. Flickr does a 500px option, actually. The current 500px limit is going to stay in place, for two reasons: one, this should hopefully only be a temporary problem for Photobucket, and two, it's not really fair to non-Photobucket users if I bump the limit up, who've already posted their images. Hopefully the team over there sorts it out very soon :).

Secondly, Incendius' first entry in PMC and our subsequent back-channel discussion highlighted some slight colour changes between his original exported image and the one he had on Photobucket. We're not entirely sure what happened, but to his knowledge only a resize had taken place, but for some reason, the latter image was slightly darker. As I don't have a Photobucket account, I can't explore this first hand, but I think I'll have to get one to see, and cover our three main hosting options.

I'd like to know what everybody thinks. Also, on another topic, the poll size for PMC: to keep the poll thread cleaner, feel free to discuss things here, and we'll see what the community says :)

^^ This.

That was an entertaining little run for the "My own Photomode Competition! Pro's Only!" by AndeMoog. I think that a light-hearted and fun thread with 'photo duelling' would be a very entertaining addition. Could be run as a comp or tournament or even a game of some sort with the right set of rules. Or just as a sort of Gallery thread. Needs to right person to organise and run though - someone a little less er... volatile.
Any thoughts?

2.0 will always be less than PMC, yes; originally it was 20/10, but I think 10 might still be too little for 2.0, since it regularly pulls in 50+ entries.

That "Pro's Only!" thread encouraged spamming, which is why it was at 100+ posts in a few hours. A newcomer not knowing about these things is one thing, but seeing members who should know better also posting spam-happy gif-only posts, or double-posting, doesn't put that thread in a good light. A gallery where people respond to the post above it with a funny quote and their own picture, "photo dueling" like you said, could be fun, but I have no idea how you'd run it as a comp, nevermind a tournament. Maybe throw a disclaimer in about posts-per-day to minimize flooding? Because I will admit, some of the comments in there were pretty funny 👍

is it the rallye competition? :D

There was also an Unedited one (which still runs over in the GT4 section, thanks to SVX).
:embarrassed:

As I said before, I would be very interested in this, I'm glad I wasn't the only one.

And to the people who quit entering the competitions, perseverance is the key; it took until recently (about a year!) to win a competition. Perhaps we should have the same thing as we did in GT4, a competition entry place, where we would show some of our entrys, to see how to improve on them.

I see we are comparing our competition host time-line, I've been doing it for about one or two years, but I'm still going.

I must say it was very entertaining - I've never reloaded a thread that much before :D I started up GT5 to make som pics and participate, but then the thread got locked... It would be great to have a thread with that kind of duelling - a place were the photo frenzy could go unleashed ;)

^that really was fun:dopey:

Especially to compete against Gtuned!
But I think when more people entering, it gets to crowded. Also, there was no clear line from the OP. So Gtuned and I started to spam this thread, because we obviously didnt take it serious.

But something similar would be alot of fun.
Maybe with one host. He pics 2 opponents (people can PM him to register) and let them post pictures like Gtuned and I did. The "crowd" decides if the next posted picture is better or not. If its better, the other one can post one again. But if the crowd says, the other original is better, the opponent is out of the race and a new challenger gets chosen by the host.

That would be fun! :)
Anyone understood how I meant that?

Yes, that's kinda how I thought something like that could work. All we would need is a clear set of rules and someone to host it. I know that I won't have the time to set it up, but if someone else is willing I'm sure it would be great fun to particapate in.

The crowd? The crowd is mostly 5 or 6 people so its not really a crowd.

Just have a free for all open end competition in the main photomode forum, much like the caption this thread.

Yes 'the crowd' is the sticky point. And just how to cast votes. People could just comment which picture they liked best and the winner of the duel is decided after X amount of voting comments have been made or something like that.

^thats true. Maybe we just give people time (maybe one or two days) to decide which pic they like more. They leave their comment and in the end the judge/host counts them together and announce the winner. Or, the host gets the last word to decide which one will make it.....I don't know!:ill:

But I think a free for all comp wouldnt work. It would get spammed to immense and noone has an overview anymore. Like it was in the "Pro"-thread

I feel the same. It was just so damn funny for the moment, but trying to make a competition like that is in my opinion impossible to get an overview of all entries...

But isn't the Photomode Tournament a better option? You still have face offs but in a structured manner.

Whereas that thread was too time consuming I imagine for the one's participating. It was a good way to pass the time and to be honest I felt sorry for the OP in that thread. If he had posted the thread in the main photomode forum, maybe it would have been more flame free.

I pretty much felt the same after a few posts. He may just wanted to start a nice little comp like the secret santa one. But damn, he messed it up all on his own, haha...

to my idea: I think you're right.
The PS Tournament is pretty much the same. It doesn't have the dinamic the thread had, but its very well organized.
I just considered how we could make this work. Not very effective, but I was just throwing ideas in here. ;)

If anyone knows the solution for it.....well, you know what to do then. :)

Comp Prize Payback!

So... there's rumblings of PSN finally getting back on its feet, which is handy, because if this list got any longer, I'd probably never be able to catch up! There's a month's worth of prizes to be handed out, for both PMC and 2.0, and while I was planning on picking who got what, I feel this might be a bit, bit more fair... or lucky, depending on your point of view ;).

There's 8 prizes, and conveniently, 8 different users who won. To keep it slightly more civil, the PMC guys can pick from their treasure chest, and the Advanced guys, from theirs. So, who's eligible?

PMC Winners:
Week 20 - dennisp83 - Completed!
Week 21 - Moglet - Completed!
Week 22 - JediRage - Completed!
Week 23 - LACOSTER

2.0 Winners:
Week 20 - chromatic9
Week 21 - Abraxas
Week 22 - ceiling_fan - Completed!
Week 23 - Jason~Bourne Completed!

And what could their prizes be? Hmmmm...

PMC Prizes:
1000 Ticket - No need for explanation. (Claimed by JediRage)
Lv 21 Ticket - Multiple race cars are available here! (Claimed by dennisp83)
Lv 17 Ticket - Same thing here!
Hennessey Venom 650R + 5 paint chips - A custom-built car and your choice of five chips (availability allowing)! (Claimed by Moglet)

2.0 Prizes:
1000 Ticket - No need for explanation. (Claimed by Jason~Bourne)
Lv 24 Ticket - A guaranteed FGT, F2007, or F10 is yours!
Lv 21 Ticket - What it says on the tin. (Claimed by chromatic9)
Geiger Ford GT HP790 + 5 paint chips - A custom-built car and your choice of five chips (availability allowing)! (Claimed by ceiling_fan)

Notes about the two cars: I've done as much as I can to match the real-life versions - the 650R is the press demonstator, painted a suitable yellow, with some aero addenda. The Geiger is painted to match the real thing as closely as possible, so a bright green with black stripes, and they both match their real life HP/weight targets, with torque being pretty close too. Both come with a full complement of tires, too, so you don't have to worry about ever buying any others.

Welcome back, PSN :D

(EDIT) I should probably point out - let me know in here what you'd like. I'll be PM'ing you all later in the week, those that I don't already have on PSN - I'm sitting at the 100 user limit, so I'll have to manage that a bit first!
