PS3 General Discussion

Why the **** can I not view .mp4 files from PSN on my PSP? I transfered the videos directly to my PSP while connected to my PS3 with USB.

The PSP wont play MP4 files they need to be M4V files, when streaming from the ps3 to the psp it transcodes them.

Can the PSP display HD .mpeg4 files? Is the .mp4 HD?

You're not leaving me with confidence. I's planing on getting a PSP, when the new model comes out.

you will need to re encode the files for them to work,i I use quicktime to do it, quick is the word too.

How to save the memory card file from the PS3 on to the PS2?

I can save it on the memory card on PS3, but it won't load the same stuff I saved from my PS3 on to the PS2.

It wont work, the files that you copy onto the ps3 are fine but copying the other way dosnt.

The PSN movie files take up a huge amount of room on a PSP anyway, I simply run them through PSP9 which converts them into a format the PSP is happy with and a much more manageable size. I've done that with quite a few PSN videos, most recently the 8 minute Die Hard 4.0 clip and the GT5P promo clip, all are more than good enough quality.

I'm starting to think the PS3 wasn't worth it. I finished 4 games on PS3 and I can't even copy the saves.

I dont quite get what you are trying to do?

You mean you have finished ps2 games and want to back up the saves to a ps2 memory card? or are you trying to back up the ps3 game saves?

(I am assuming you are wanting to transfer a PS2 game save that you have saved on your PS3 to a PS2 memory card. Am I right?) To do anything with a file, you go to that file and click on Triangle on it with the controller. That will bring up a menu of options with it. From there you can choose to copy it over to another memory card, etc. If you are wanting to do this, you are going to need one of the Memory Card adapters, so that you can hook up a PS2 memory card to the PS3.

Now if you are trying to save PS3 game saves on a PS2 memory card, then you are going to have a problem, as you cannot do that. But if you want to backup PS3 game saves, then you are going to need a SD card, a flash drive, or one of Sony's memory sticks. With those you will be able to put your PS3 game saves onto them and then do whatever you want with them.

So Sony may have lost GTA as an exclusive and the PS3 is not getting the GTA IV downloads (at rather great expense to MS), but it would appear that the next Rockstar franchise is PS3 only.....

.....looks interesting.

I don't get these kind of press releases that hardly have any detail to them whatsoever. 'Course I'm also the person who hates previews for a movie that won't be released for a whole year. So maybe it's just a personality thing.

Copy your PS3 saves? Plug in your USB stick, go to your save you want to copy, press triangle, select "copy", and select your USB stick. Tada.

Copy your PS2 saves? Buy the PS2 mem card adapter and read the directions on the box/in the manual.

You have to read between the lines and also this about who it is really aimed at. To my mind it has two main targets, the first being games and the gaming industry, mainly this part.....

Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.

...which is quite blatent in saying if you get a PS3 it can do things the 360 can't; now I find it hard to believe that Rockstar didn't OK that comment, and if they didn't we can expect them to counter it in a few days time (and I personally don't think they will).

However the bulk of the press release was aimed at investors, both from Sony and MS. For the Sony ones its reassurance that exclusives still remain with them, and not just that an exclusive franchise from a major studio. For the MS investors its a subtle way of letting them know that the $50milllion MS spent with Rockstar just to get exclusive additional content for GTA IV (not even an exclusive release) has not snagged them Rockstar's next venture. It makes them question the wisdom of spending $50 million (from a part of MS that is loosing money hand over fist) of what shareholders see as there money.

See, read between the lines and its quite a significant press release, it may not have any firm details, hell the 'new' franchise from Rockstar could end up being rubbish, fingers crossed its not; however right now none of that matters.

Well, I finally got one what with the price drop (mine's imported from Canada) and the games coming out including the obvious GT5 Prologue.

Got a question though that I hope some techies here may know - I currently play it on a normal TV that can play NTSC devices (remember it's a Canadian PS3) and am looking to get a HDTV in time for GT5:P. Does anyone know if I will have to look for a specific HDTV in order to play the PS3 in high-def, as the TV will obviously be bought in the PAL region - will it be able to show NTSC or is this not an issue with HDTV?

Thanks.

That's a quality explanation Scaff. Highlights that it's always easier to complain than think right ;)

Thanks 👍

To be honest if you spend enough years reading press releases (in my case in the motor industry) you soon get used to reading the release and the message they actually want to get across, which are very often different.

This is quite a good one in my mind, comes across as a run of the mill release with little hard detail, yet actually has quite a lot to say.

I never thought Sony was in any true disadvantage because of MS $50m exclusive content deal. Its still the same game at the core just new missions and more than likely new areas to explore. But if you think about it who would have gotten he Gamecube version if Nin had an extra city in San Andrea's? The game you buy on store shelves is going to be the same and this content will NOT be free. And it wont be out until spring according to what was said. MS intends to make their money back in DLC. To do that they would have to out sell Gears of War and have everyone who bought the game buy the content. Gears has sold 4million since its release. GTA4 being multi platform meas it wont sell as well as gears of war in the same time. So expect DLC to be 1000MS points for a new area and $400 for missions.

I dont think its a problem for Sony. The game will sell anyway seeing that Need For speed Carbon was one of the top selling games on PS3 when it launched. I'll take an exclusive franchise over exclusive content any day.

Thought i'd post this....Found it last night while searching through some PS3 stuff. I have a 32' 1080P CRT($800 incl Shipping) and my grandad has a 1080I 42' Plasma($7500 with a cabinet thing:crazy:), so i thought i'd show him, as everyone say's myn look's better lol:D

MYTH: LCD/plasma TVs look better than old-fashioned CRTs.
A popular misconception is that new-fangled LCD and plasma TVs have better image quality than an old-school cathode-ray tube TV, all HD resolutions being equal.

This is actually false. An HD CRT will almost always look better than an HD LCD or plasma TV, as CRT boasts deeper, more vibrant color. CRT TVs can also render a wide variety of resolutions, from 480i up to 1080p (if supported), without losing quality through downsampling or upsampling. In contrast, an LCD or plasma TV has a designated "native" resolution that must be hit (say, 720p); anything above or below this number will usually look muddy or blurry as the signal must be converted. This is especially true for interlaced formats like 480i and 1080i

CRT may beat both plasma and LCD in terms of picture quality, but they are enormously heavy, with larger sets weighing up to 200 pounds. The key selling point to plasmas and LCDs is their sleek size and light weight, in addition to solid picture quality.

If a UK PS3 price cut is announced at the next games convention then I might start putting money aside to buy one. MGS4's release is less than a year off, also I'm hoping GT5:P is easily available for us Europeans. If it's a download then I certainly sdon't see why not. There's not much out at the moment that I'm interested in though. I haven't looked at many PS3 gaems out now or coming soon though, so I'd have to take a gander.

lol that was what i was doing last night. I think it would be worth it for GTHD(I Should be able to keep my G25:D)and F1. The only game i will have for the 1st few week's will probably be GTHD anyway till i can find more stuff to sell lol.

I put up my faceplates last night:

PGR3 game and faceplate. Start/Reserve $80(already has 2 watcher's)
TDU faceplate, Start/Reserve $20(1 Watcher so far)

And theyve only been on for 12hrs(overnight)
